This past week alone the Renegades played seven games in seven days and accumulated a 3-4 record. After losing two games to the Tri-City ValleyCats, the ’Gades bounced back at home with a 4-3 victory. Granden Goetzman smacked his team-leading fourth triple in the first inning. He would later be knocked in by James Harris’ fielder’s choice groundout to short. That gave the Renegades an early spark toward victory. The ’Gades got their second run in the fourth from another fielder’s choice groundout to short by Harris. They scored the third and fourth runs in the bottom of the eighth. Great pitching from the arm of Kevin Brandt helped the Renegades maintain the lead and allowed Brandt to pickup his third straight win, moving his record to 4-2. The Renegades were at it again at home the following night. This tim, it was all Tri-City. A pitchers duel between Tri-City’s Chris Cotton and Hudson Valley’s Chris Kircsh through four innings at the Dutch was broken wide open in the top of the fifth. Kirsch gave up a leadoff single to the ValleyCats’ Brett Booth and it was all downhill from there. Back-to-back errors opened the floodgates for the ValleyCats as they went on to score four runs in the fifth. The four runs were not charged to Kirsch because of the two errors. However, they were the only runs of the game as the ValleyCats defeated the Renegades, 4-0. The final game of the Tri-City series concluded on Thursday night back at the Dutch. Aaron Griffin was on the hill for the Renegades and was lights out. Griffin pitched six scoreless innings, striking out seven. He would only allow three hits before he turned the ball over to Rick Teasley. It wasn’t easy being Teasley that Thursday night. After eight and one third scoreless innings, one swing changed everything. Teasley would give up a solo home run to John Kemmer in the top of the ninth, which proved to be the ballgame. The ‘Gades went down without a fight, 1-0. That loss concluded the Tri-City series. The ’Gades were back at divisional play on Friday night. They took on the Aberdeen IrionBirds in front of a capacity crowd on fireworks night. Like fireworks, the Renegades’ offense was explosive in the early innings. Two runs came around in the second inning and one more in the fifth. Ben Griset tossed six innings and had had seven Ks. That was enough to get the W and put the Renegades two-and-a-half games ahead of the IronBirds in the McNamara Division with a 3-1 win. The ’Gades appeared to have the IrionBirds number as they swept the birds in this two-game series with a 4-3 win on Saturday. Again, the Renegades jumped out early, scor- ing three runs in the second and another one in the third. Jamie Schultz faced the minimum through four. Colton Revis got hit around and left a bases-loaded jam for Andrew Hanse. Hanse was able to bail out Revis and keep the 4-0 lead intact. Justin Choate then tried his hand on the mound and he made the game very interesting. Allowing a run in the seventh, eighth and ninth the Ironbirds mounted a small comeback. Fortunately for the ‘Gades, the IronBirds flew short of wining. The Renegades will have no time to rest as they are in the midst of a six-game homestand, that started Tuesday. The ‘Gades will be taking on the Vermont Lake Monsters July 31-August 1. They will then face the Auburn Doubledays August 2 – 4.
