We are asking them to be hopeful for peace in the world. This week’s disciple target was: Be reverent during prayers. Reception: Francesca Yates and Hayden Davenport Year 1: Kieva Spillane and Samuel Hunter Year 2: Emilia Okojie and Reece Gibbs GRENFELL TOWER RESPONSE Today we asked you to send in a donation towards the victims of the Grenfell tower disaster. We have been overwhelmed by your response. Thank you! A cheque will be sent to St Francis Primary School, so that they can provide the children affected with a special treat. Thank you for being such a wonderful, caring community. We will you know next week the final amount collected. YEAR 1 VICTORIAN WORKSHOP GARDENING CLUB Last week the gardening club entered a competition that was hosted by BBC Gardening World at the NEC. We had to represent a meal in a wheelbarrow. We decided on ice cream with mint and edible flowers and we called our ice cream Very Berry Ice cream. We grew strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, chokeberries, redcurrants, marigolds, pansies, violas, lavender and mint. We really enjoyed our challenge and look forward to next year. Yesterday, Year 1 had the great experience of time travelling back to the Victorian era. During the workshop the pupils met a Victorian School Mistress, who discussed Queen Victoria, Child Labour and Inventions. They also met a Parlour Maid who chatted about life as a domestic servant. The pupils were extra well behaved that day to avoid the cane! YEAR 3 ASSEMBLY On Thursday Y3 presented their assembly about Celebrations. They thought about all the things we celebrate, big and small. It was a time to reflect on the recent celebration of First Holy Communion by 10 children in Y3 and Y6. It was a wonderful moment in the Catholic Life of our school.

    YEAR 1 VICTORIAN WORKSHOP

GARDENING CLUB Last week the gardening club entered a competition that was hosted by BBC Gardening World at the NEC. We had to represent a meal in a wheelbarrow. We decided on ice cream with mint and edible flowers and we called our ice cream Very Berry Ice

cream. We grew strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, chokeberries,

    WEEKLY ATTENDANCE

RECEPTION VISIT TO SAINSBURYS Yesterday Reception had a lovely trip to

Sainsbury’s. They had a shopping list based on what they are reading from The Very Hungry Caterpillar—they had to buy the items that he

had munched through in the story. The children enjoyed picking up the different items and

scanning them at the check out. They were very well behaved and were a credit to the school.

YEAR 1 VISIT TO THE LIBRARY

On Tuesday Year One visited Druids Heath Library to hear about the Summer Reading

Challenge. It encourages children to read 6 books over the summer holidays. It is ran by the Reading

Agency and every library in Birmingham will be taking part. Year One are very keen to take on

    the challenge!

PARENT CONTACT DETAILS There are occasions when school have been

unable to contact parents. Would you please therefore ensure you update school

with any change in your contact details. This can be extremely upsetting for any

child, especially when they are feeling ill in school.

Well done to Year 1 who have exceeded our target this week!

INSTRUMENTAL CONCERT Letters should be going home with children who take part in music lessons or are in the school choir. They are being invited to take part in a

concert during the afternoon of June 29th. It will involve them staying late after school. Please read

carefully and return replies to school promptly.

ST JUDE’S HAS GOT TALENT The heats of the talent contest have gone

well. The final will now take place on Thursday 29th June starting at 2.00pm.

    All welcome
