ALMA MATER

You may range through all the rainbow

And love each eparate hue;

You may prai e the ro y sunri e

Or the evening kie so blue;

But the color of our h igh chool

Due honor hall not lack,

While we can ing of Lyndonville,

And the Orange and the Black.

Thru four long year of h igh chool

'Mid t the cene we love o well,

A the my t ic charms to knowledge

We vainly eek to pell;

Or we win athletic victories

On the ba eball field or track,

Still we work for dear old Lyndonville,

And the Orange and the Black.

When the care of l ife o'ertake us

Mingling fast our locks with gray,

Should our dearest hopes betray us

Fal e fortune fade away;

Stil l we bani h care and sadne

As we turn our memories back,

And recall tho e days of gladne s, 'Neath the Orange and the Black.

We dedicate this 1962 edition of the Echo to our vice-principal, Mr. Donald Herry, whose leadership and encouragement throughout our high school years have been continuously helpful.

His unfailing patience has benefited every senior who has been a member of his classes or worked on any school committee under his direction. Underlying his ever-present humor we feel a steadfast devotion to scholastic excellence. In his decisions concerning our problems we are aware of his sincere concern for the ultimate good of the students.

It is with gratitude and affection that we dedicate this year book to him.

FOOTBALL TEAM

54

The 1962 football team, under the able leader. hip of coach Hart en and coach John-

on had the best ea on . ince 1957 compil ing a 4 win, 2 lo. s record. The team won the "C" league champion. h ip and wa third in B-C league. Losing only to Oakfield and Corfu the "Tigers" also broke a coring record piling up 122 point in one . eason.

Ther.e were six Seniors on the team this year led by captains Rick Parsons and Bill

Plummer. They were Paul Rucinski, Dan Fra er, Ken C'ooper and Bruce Krenning.

The scoring wa as follows : Bill Plummer 64, Ed Wood 38, Rick Par ons 12, Wally Mapes 7, and Paul Rucinski scoring on a point after the touchdown.

The team is very grateful for the pirit of the student body and the townspeople, who supported us, and cheered us on to victory.

Page 59: 1962We dedicate this 1962 edition of the Echo to our vice-princi pal, Mr. Donald Herry, whose leadership and encouragement throughout our high school years have been continuously helpful.

Standing: W. Plummer, L. Parsels, T. Crosby, R. Parsons, K. Johnson, R. Ehren

reich, N. Woodworth, B. Bentley, T. Houseman, Manager, J. Stachewicz.

VARSITY

Again this season Coach March came to Lyndonville to build another good team. In our first two game again t Kendall, our traditional rival, and a very good team from Oakfield, the boys didn't click. However, the team finally came through in a game with Alexander. Down by 27-17 at half time, they came on strong to win 45-43 in the second half.

BASKETBALL

Rick Parsons, Richard Ehrenreich, and William Plummer were cho en captains out of the eight seniors on the team. With the h elp of the student body and especially the cheerleaders, we hope the team does as well for the remainder of the season.

J V BASKETBALL

By looking at the core thu far this ea on ii seem as though our J. V. Tiger have met tiff oppo ition. Though the Tiger h ave been on the short end of the coring o far this ea on it i how they play the game that really count. Under Coach Stornelli Jay-Veec; h ave di played good port man h ip in all their conte ts and in some spot have shown a potential greater than their record account for. However, with a team compo ed mo tly of fir t year men and the remaining player of last year's team that aw limited action the J . V . team need a little time before i t begins t o work a a unit. When this is accomplished our J . V . Tigers will how us better re ults in the near future. The tarting line-up con i t of ace rebounder Gary Skinner and Lee Plummer, with John Woodworth, Terry Martin and "Tony" Giampapa a backcourt play-maker .

BASEBALL

As baseball sea o n began, the boys realized t a long hard road lay ahead if they were to apture the league championship which was . to Elba the year before. Under the guide of Coach Hartsen, the team fought endle stoward this goal, and. when the season was r, the Lyndonville Tigers had once again ned the title of "Champions."

After the regular season, the team repreted L. C. S. in the Section V, quarterfinal roff game again t Cuba. This was the Tiger ' t game of the year, the team playing error-

ball and winning by a score of 8-1 .

Naples Central School wa the opponent for the semifinal game, and it was with this game that the season ended for Lyndonville. Behind 8-2 going into the la t inning, the Tigers staged a desperate rally, only to see it fall short by one run. Naples won, 8-7, and the hopes for that long-awaited game at Redwing Stadium were stymied for another year.

Hopes are high at L. C. S. for another successful campaign in 1 962. The team will be comprised of mostly seniors and all indications point to a happy season for Coach Hartsen and the student body of Lyndonville Central School.

The Student Council, con isting of two students elected from each grade and an honorary member, Maria Theresa Aro emena, represents the entire tudent body. It governs all the activities of the various classes and student organizations. By bringing all such activities before the Council, conflicting interests are prevented and often helpful criticism is handed down.

The Student Council is also a service organ-

ization. I t provide the tudent body with a weekly schedule of school event , and selects as embly programs. Again this year, the Student Council collected money for the chool welfare fund at Christmas time.

The main money-making project of the Student Council is the sale of individual picture . This year, however, PTA calendars were also sold.

Thi year there wa a new organization added to the extra curricular activities of Lyndonville Central School. I ts title is the Lucian A. Webber Chapter of the Future Teachers of America. I t is an organization of young people interested in the field of teaching. We have as our objectives learning the basic fundamentals of the profession. Our projects include program. with speakers on education, trips to nearby State Teachers

olleges, and a recruit campaign in ninth and tenth grades. Some long-range plans branch out to the State and National Associations and their conventions. We also hope to form a teachers aid program.

It is hoped that more students will take an interest in this new and growing club. Teaching has tremendous needs and possibilities waiting to be filled by high school students.

CHORUS

A the curtain ro e on the 1 961-62 school year, the choru began rehearsing under the direction of Mr. Benedict. A good turnout of 40 ambitious student made it possible for this group to participate in many activities. On November 1 1 , Martha Herry, Carli e Bal chmiter, and Emmet Pritchard repre-

ented Lyndonville at Attica in the all-state Sectional chorus. Another group went to county chorus.

The chorus presented its two annual events - the Christma Program and the Spring Concert with much uccess.

The final performance of our chorus was Baccalaureate Service ; many Seniors having been under the direction of Mr. Benedict for four year (and) felt a bit melancholy a they sang "The Lord Bless You and Keep You" for the Ia t time.
