SEA MILAN AIRPORTS
Milano Linate• 9.6 million passengers / year; 96,000
annual movements• deeply embedded in the urbanized
southeastern belt of Milan• an area of 350 hectares• two runways: the first (2,442 meters
long) intended for commercial aviation and the second (601 meters long) for general aviation
Milano Malpensa• 18.5 million passengers; • 156,600 annual movements• 500,100 tons• a total area of/year• 1,220 hectares on a six
municipalities territory • two parallel runways of 3,920
meters

PROBLEMS AND NEEDS
Services to passengers and airport operators; Remote water monitoring system to have clear water
consumptions and optimize the water resource use; Additional measurement points and the upgrading of
existing meters with telemetric data transfer capability; simulation model to better understand network
performance; reasonable assumptions to close knowledge in a
complex system constructed over decades with many points not physically accessible.
Cost reduction
@WATERNOMICS_EU www.waternomics.eu5
The initial objective of global water balance capturing by measurements all inputs and outputs of the system unfeasible due to the complexity of the environment in terms of accessibility, security, cost, and operational constraints of the airport, within the time available.
Pilot areas identified: DMA6, one water loop within the airport property which serves 14 buildings for airport
freight and maintenance operations and 300 staff The Terminal Building where the project has the opportunity to interact with airport
staff, shops, and passengers

Water consumption during the night time for the Freight building need to be checked. Anyway the information give us the possibility to understand and monitoring the water consumption and to investigate why this happen.

Availability of a hydraulic simulation model of the water network has multiple advantages: • Test different operational strategies in a ‘what-if’ manner• Pressure control in the water network and investigation of different set points • Visualize a geo-referenced map view of pilot zone network and sensors• Visualize and change hydraulic data for the water network (helpful for future expansion
of the network)• FDD method set up to localize the leakage in the water network

LINATE AIRPORT PLATFORM – TRAINING SESSION
A very positive feedback on the platform
SEA Departments mainly involved: Maintenance Infrastructures – Design Environment and Airport SafetyRoles: Managers Operating staff
@WATERNOMICS_EU www.waternomics.eu11
Further requirements in order to improve the platform customization and visualization of data: Exporting of data charts and creation of reports (to be
used internally and for external use) A clearer naming of the buildings and dealers (always
changing, especially the last ones) Adding of further parametric values in the Apps
developed, in particular:Cubic meters of water/square meters of buildingCubic meters of water/n° of passengers per year
Adding, in the Distribution graphs, also the values in mc and beyond %
Users manual and training documents
