As the warmer weather begins, so does our concern for children needing the protection of sunscreen or insect repellant. Since both of these products contain chemical compounds that may be unsafe for children, we need to be very careful that neither one of them is available to students without adult supervision while at school. Preferably, ensure that your child is protected from the sun’s rays or insects by applying a long-acting product prior to arriving at school. This is particularly important on days of Iield trips or Field Day. To ensure that products such as these with warnings to “Keep out of the reach of children” are not available on the bus or at school, please do not allow them to be carried by students in backpacks or bags. If your child is particularly susceptible or has a medical need for sun or bite protection, contact the health ofIice to make arrangements for leaving sunscreen or insect repellant (in its original container, labeled with your child’s name) in the Health OfIice. This product may then be left in the Health OfIice, accompanied by a written permission from the student’s parent/guardian. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping all of our children safe. Wishing you all a safe and restful Holiday weekend!!

THE MAINE-FRENCH EXCHANGE June 25th - July 15th 2016 July 15th - August 5th 2016

www.mainefrenchexchange.com Are you interested in having an addition to your family for three weeks this summer? Have you ever been interested in a cultural exchange program but thought a commitment of one year was too long? The Maine-French Exchange program may be the perfect fit for you and your family. Aaron and Angela Gilbert have been given the opportunity to direct a program in which young people from France can visit the United States and gain a better understanding of the American culture. There are two groups of teens coming this year. The first group will arrive on June 25th and return to France on July 15th. The second group of students will arrive July 15th and return to France on August 5th. We are seeking host families who are willing to give one of these inquiring young French teenagers a peek into your unique, American way of life. These young people are coming to America to experience your lifestyle, and to enhance their English skills. There are two programs available. The first is Full Immersion. This teen comes to your home and becomes a part of your family. They help with normal household duties and simply enjoy the wonderful Maine days of summer doing whatever it is your family normally does. Take them along when you go shopping, to the beach, or on a special outing with your immediate family.

The second program is Family Helper. These are older, i.e. 16-19year old teens. They will help you with your children while you mow the lawn, paint the back porch, or get caught up on all those household duties, etc. Many families with little ones have found this extra set of hands and eyes a welcome relief during the long days of summer. The teens are interviewed in France by our French exchange agency and must meet high character qualifications. Each French candidate completes a two-page comprehensive profile, with photo, which describes them, their interests, family size, likes and dislikes. You are given the opportunity to review these profiles and select the young person who matches your family’s interests. You can be specific! You can choose a boy or girl, and the age you prefer. All teens arrive with pocket money and are fully medically insured. The only expectation from a family is that your new French friend will find love and acceptance in your home. Angela and Aaron have hosted 25 foreign exchange students in the past fourteen years. Twenty-two of the students have been through this program. They feel honored to be given the opportunity to be able to share this amazing experience with families in the state of Maine who may be interested. If your family is unable to host, please forward this letter to other families who may welcome the experience. Thank-you in Advance! !
