Warragamba Public School Keeping in Touch Term 3 Week 3 9 August 2019 Principals Message “The theme for 2019 Education Week is Every student, every voice. It is a celebration of student empowerment and how the NSW public education system gives students the skills they need in order to have and express a voice during their own educational journey and as engaged global citizens (DoE Website)” At our school we are promoting this through all aspects of our learning. Active discussions in classrooms, ideas brought forward by students that are considered and given traction where ever possible. Consultation with students about things happening in and around the school and ensuring that all students have the opportunity to be heard. We had an amazing day on Wednesday with Book Fair, Open Classrooms and our Book Character Parade. So much excitement from the students and such a wonderful turn out by our school community. Always a wonderful day here at Warra!!!!!!!!. It has been a big week for us this week. On Tuesday our Snr Choir, Snr Dance, Jnr Dance, Comperes and the Ukulele Grp students went off to the Penrith Valley Performing Arts Festival to showcase their talents. This year we have been extremely well presented to the wider community with our students featuring throughout the show. We had Amarlia W and Trae W chosen as comperes for the evening alongside two high school students. We have had three soloists chosen in Brock P & Heidi K who performed as part of the larger combined schools choir group and Thomas W who performed a ukulele & singing solo. Our dance groups featuring students from Yrs 3-6 and our ukulele grp, the “Warrajammers”, consisting of Stage 3 students. A wonderful opportunity to showcase our school and all of the wonderful programs operating within our school. Term 3 has also seen the introduction of “Fun Zone”. This is a lunchtime space created for students who do not wish to venture out into the larger playgrounds. Following on from our very successful “Chill Zone” program we saw the need to offer a second space that students could access as more and more were wanting this and Chill Zone was overflowing. In Fun Zone, the students can play with a large variety of construction resources and so far it has been very popular with the students. Some students prefer the quieter activities like colouring in and reading but it is amazing to see the creativity coming from the construction areas. The conversations are even more interesting!!!!! Congratulations to Adam F!!!!!!!! Adam started racing Powerboats just over 2 years ago. Following in his fathers and brothers footsteps. Early this year, Adam competed in the AFPGP Series (Australian Formula Powerboat Grand Prix) at various locations in NSW. Round 1 - Taree NSW - 2nd Place Round 2 - Mulwala NSW - 2nd Place Round 3 - Sans Souci NSW - 1st Place Overall for the Series Adam places 2nd. In July this year, Adam competed in the NSW Formula Future Powerboat Championships in Sans Souci, winning the championship and earning the title NSW Champion. Adam competes in the J2 Class with a 9.9 Horsepower engine, which results in speeds up to 70km/hr.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Jamie Mc, Vanessa G, Bailey S & Chloe L for making it through to the Zone Spelling Bee Final. So many great spellers here at Warra. We wish them all the very best for the big day. We also had 26 of our Stage 3 students attend the Local Government Week excursion to Wollondilly Council last Thursday. Mr Bruny and Mrs Heffernan went along to the council

with the students where they were taken on a tour, listened to some information and also got to debate some issues in the chambers. They also got to meet our Mayor – Matthew Deeth.

Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 News! Welcome back to Term 3. Hopefully everyone had a great…but chilly break and you are all looking forward to another busy term!

Just a few reminders….K-2 assembly for Term 3 will be held every odd week – Weeks 3, 5, 7 & 9. Assemblies begin at 2pm in the school hall. The children love to perform to an audience, so we welcome Parent visitors! Please note the swap this week. 1D will perform and host the K-2 assembly this week (week 3) and 2A will host and perform at the assembly in week 5. This change is necessary as the majority of our Year 2 students will be at the athletics carnival this Friday.

K-2 will hold an athletics carnival later this term. A note will come home in the coming weeks outlining the date and venue so you can add this event to your calendar. Parents will be invited to attend the carnival.

Congratulations to all our amazing Kindergarten students. On Wednesday 31 July, 57 students plus lots of teachers and parents travelled to Mowbray Park Farm for a school excursion. Our day was filled with sunshine, hay, yummy damper, cow milking and of course feeding and patting farm animals. The behaviour of all our students on Wednesday was outstanding and we were all certainly proud of the Warragamba manners you upheld! A huge thank you to our parent helpers, who also assisted us on the day. You helped make our day a huge success. Thanks!!

Stage 2 Stage 2 students enjoyed a scavenger hunt for their reward afternoon. All students were excited and there was a real buzz all afternoon. They had to locate various items located around the school. It was great to watch them all laugh and enjoy themselves.

This term, students will be doing dance for fitness every Monday afternoon. Students are enjoying shaking it to the various beats and rhythms.

Stage 3 We would like to welcome Mrs Stucki to stage 3, who is taking over from Mrs Paterson on 5/6P for the rest of the year. We are finalising the numbers for camp, so please keep a look out for the note coming out in the next few weeks. This will also have the final payment amount. If you are willing to sell some Cadbury chocolates on behalf of Stage 3 for our Year 6 Farewell, please let Mrs Casey know, and she can organise one to go home. We still have a few leftover and would really appreciate a helping hand to sell the last boxes. Stage 3 are going to be working on the Year 6 Farewell for the next 2 terms. It will be here before you know it. Please keep your eyes peeled for notes regarding drinks, parent helpers and important information. If your child did not start their schooling at WPS we will be asking for a Kindergarten photo - so please have a look around to help us out. Primary assemblies will be held each fortnight this term starting in Week 4 (16.08.19). They are held each even week of the term. Year 3 will miss the first one due to Zoo Snooz and then Yr 4 will miss the one in Week 8 due to Wooglemai.
