Warragamba Public School Keeping in Touch Term 2 Week 6 Friday 7 June 2019 Principals Message Once again we have had a very busy three weeks here at Warra PS. Our thoughts and prayers have been with the Thornton family after the passing of their beloved Kerrie- Ann. We would like the Thornton and Hayes families to know that we are keeping them close in our hearts and are there for them at this difficult time. David T in Yr 5 has a wish that “Camp Quality” could come to our school with their puppet show so that his peers could hear the very important message that they share with schools. His wish will be granted and David and I will be looking at a date in T3 for “Camp Quality” to come to our school. Our NAPLAN Online process went relatively smoothly after some issues on the first day. A huge thank you must go out to Mrs Cleary for all of her hard work in running the process over the nine days. Mrs Patterson was a great support for Mrs Cleary as were our Yr 3 & Yr 5 teachers. It was our first year completing the assessments online and overall our students seemed to find the process engaging. The Yr 3 writing assessment remains as a pen and paper test however Year 5 do complete their writing test online. We had our Netball Knockout Team compete against OPPS on Monday the 20/5. Whilst they played well and did their best they were not winners on the day. I enjoyed going across to watch part of their game at the netball courts. Well done to all of the players and to Mrs Eccles for being their coach. We also had our Maths Group P/T Interviews. They were held in the Library again this year and it provided a valuable opportunity for teachers to share information about where students are in Mathematics. Our Debating Teams also had their first debates here at Warra on 23/5. Mrs Amoroso and Miss Clarke are working with the students this year and Mrs Patterson and I both had the opportunity to watch their second debate against Werrington PS. The adjudicator gave all teams’ very valuable feedback which the students can use to work on their debating skills. Our teams headed off to Mount Riverview PS last Thursday for their second round debates. Mrs Amoroso, Miss Clarke and Mrs Dowswell attended on the day. Again they gained some valuable knowledge and learnt a lot from their experiences. Well done to all of the students!!!

Principals Message Once again we have had a very busy three weeks here at Warra PS.

Our thoughts and prayers have been with the Thornton family after the passing of their beloved Kerrie-Ann. We would like the Thornton and Hayes families to know that we are keeping them close in our hearts and are there for them at this difficult time. Mrs Cleary and five students attended the Yarramundi Camp on the 28/5 & 29/5. It was a wonderful camp and the students got to take part in many different activities and mix with many students from many others schools.

Year 3 finally got to go on their Bike Education excursion after it was rescheduled earlier in the term due to bad weather. The students had an amazing day with only one student losing their licence over the course of the day.

On Friday the 31st May we ahd the Zone Cross Country Carnival at the Equestrian Park in Camden. Well done to all of our students who went aong and participated on the day, You all did very well. A special congratulation to Izabel B in 4M for making it through to the next level – Regional Carnival on the 13 June 2019. Well done Izabell So proud of all of our students.

Last Week Stage 2 went into the city to participate in the Tribal Warrior Cultural Cruise on Sydney Harbour. Once again the weather was against us however the excursion was able to go ahead as most of the day was indoors. This was an amazing opportunity for the students. They had a great time despite the cold and wet conditions.

We also have Mrs Cleary, Miss Chisholm, Miss Dimech, Mrs Ezzy & Miss Murphy participating in Quality Teaching Rounds as a professional learning opportunity funded by Newcastle University. On Thursday they had their first teaching round and an observer from the university came to see how the process went. This is very valuable learning for staff and looks at the learning undertaken by the students. The team code each other’s implementation of teaching and learning against the Quality Teaching Framework based on the student learning. Valuable discussions are had and the reading of research papers is also an integral part of the process.

I also went along to the EduTech Conference in the city on Thursday and Friday of last week. A very large conference that demonstrates all of the new technology and research that is becoming an integral feature in education today. I listened to amazing speakers and got to walk around the expo and look at all of the new resources available for school. I am coming back to school with some great information and some great ideas.

Playground Developments

I am currently in the process of organising a brand new court space for the North Playground. I am working with the DoE Project Manager for this project. We have quotes which we are going through and will make a decision this coming week. The time frame is unknown however this is something we have been working towards for the past two years and hope to see completed before the end of this year. I will keep you informed as to where we are in the process. Very exciting for our school!!!!!! Our school P&C are raising funds for additional shade (sails or shelter) for this area once it is completed. It will be an artificial grass court with netball and basketball markings along with the adaptations for a volley ball net also. It will have goal posts that cater for both netball and basketball. Once this is completed we will be looking at what we can do to improve the rest of this space.

We are also in the process of having a small playground for our “Chill Zone” program, installed down next to where the uniform shop is. That will hopefully be completed for early next term.

On the 17/6 we will be getting a delivery of 120 tyres that we will be using to edge off the garden that we are creating down in South Playground along the fence (shop side). We currently have bark chip down there. The tyres will be set out along the edge and as part of our NAIDOC celebrations in Week 10 each class will be decorating the tyres. We will also be placing five posts in the garden that feature indigenous artwork and our school name and rules. If you are available on Monday 17/6 to help with the placing of the tyres we would appreciate the help. I will let you know more once I know when the delivery will arrive on that day.

Last Friday we said farewell to Miss Chisholm. Miss Chisholm was successful in gaining a position at Fort St PS in the city. This is a great opportunity for Miss Chisholm and also much closer to her home. We wish Miss Chisholm all the very best for her new job and we look forward to hearing how she is going. I know Miss Chisholm was really sad to leave her class 3C however she will keep in touch with them. Miss Brittany Murphy will be taking over from today – Tuesday 11 June for the remainder of the year. Miss Murphy spent the last week with 3C and Miss Chisholm as part of the hand over process. We look forward to having Miss Murphy back on board at Warragamba PS. Miss Murphy will be taking on the roles Miss Chisholm is leaving.
