1 MAY - JULY 2019 VOLUME 20 ISSUE 3 ***************************************************************************************** KING SOOPERS COMMUNITY REWARDS PROGRAM ... UPDATE On April 1st, King Soopers introduced their newest rewards program... COMMUNITY REWARDS. Warm Hearts ~ Warm Babies has received their first payment from this program and we are very pleased with the results. 41 different individuals have participated on behalf of WHWB and the monetary rewards are measurably greater( about 10%) than the previous Neighborhood Rewards program. If you are not currently participating... we encourage you to reconsider. Also, get family /friends involved. It's EASY ... costs no more than buying your groceries at King Soopers and designating WHWB as your charity of choice. The key is your King Soopers loyalty card. HOW?? 1. If you don't already have one... Get a King Soopers loyalty card (FREE at the store) 2. Create an online King Soopers acct (If you already created one ...you don't need another one). If not...it really is easy. 3. Click on the Community Rewards line and enter "DF544" or "Warm Hearts Warm Babies" 4. That's it! A portion of all your future purchases at King Soopers will be credited to WHWB. THANK YOU for your support!!! ***************************************************************************************** ANOTHER ASPECT OF WHWB We hear many things about how well we are doing helping the needy babies and how our organization is growing. But I want you to think about another aspect and the reason that our organization is so successful. In many cases, our volunteers are retired and have more time on their hands, or their talents are no longer needed as their families have grown up. WHWB has become a wonderful outlet for these people as they now have a purpose: to sew, knit or crochet for "the babies". In other words, their life has been given an avenue to help others. When you listen to some of the testimonials from our Volunteers, you soon realize that one of the most important benefits that WHWB provides: is the friendships we form and the importance of being useful to others. Our Volunteers are very talented, benevolent people. In many cases, WHWB gives our Volunteers a purposeful meaning to their lives. I can certainly attest to this! Keep up the good work. WHWB President/Jean Jones ***************************************************************************************** 2019 Volunteer Luncheon “WHWB Volunteers are Immeasurable” The Volunteer Luncheon was held on May 9 th . The Board of Directors hosts this luncheon every year to recognize the amazing work you, WHWB Volunteers, do for the babies. All in attendance had a great time… enjoyed seeing old friends and sharing a delicious lunch. Approximately 125 volunteers attended (we’re sorry more of you couldn’t be there ...maybe next year). Luncheon Highlights Food - Delicious Homemade Lasagna prepared by Karen Nelson, a relatively new volunteer Salads and fruit prepared by Board Members Silent Auction - Thanks to everyone that donated many wonderful items Craft Show Table - This gave volunteers an opportunity to see and purchase items we sell at Craft Shows Quilt Raffle - Thanks to Sandi Powis who donated the beautiful quilt (continued on page 2) Warm Hearts Warm Babies

Individuals Recognitions (Luncheon continued from page 1) Board of Directors & Work Group Coordinators Volunteers over 90 years old Neva Applehauns...Betty Burritt...Helen Card...Dona Cook...Peg Steadman THANK YOU to all of the WHWB volunteers in attendance, and to all that were unable to attend. We hope the following quote will ring true for all of you: “Being told you’re appreciated is one of the simplest and most uplifting thing you can hear.” Sue Fizmaurice ************************************************* QUILT-A-THON What do you get when fourteen women, eight sewing machines, two ironing boards with irons, stacks of fabric, stacks of partially completed quilts, stacks of precut squares and large roll of batting in the WHWB Baby House? Some of us call it a Quilt-a-thon! On a bright sunny June Saturday ...fourteen volunteers representing seven WHWB work groups came together to have fun and create quilts for Colorado’s needy babies. Prior to this day, some of the women cut blocks, matched tops and backs, even prepared quilts that just needed to be tied. Several volunteers took the opportunity to participate in a Quilt-a-thon for the first time and even make their first pieced quilt top. Several participants were relatively new to WHWB and appreciated meeting volunteers from other work groups, seeing the Baby House and the scope of our work. The irons were in use most of the time, sewing machines whirred, batting was cut and four ladies stayed busy tying quilts while tips and tricks were swapped. Some ladies had so much fun they opted to work another hour to complete what they were working on. At the end of the day, we had 4 completed quilts, 30 quilts ready to tie, and 8 pieced tops. Thank you to Laurie B (Arvada), Sandi P (285 Corrider), Joan D (Thornton), Sharon G (Thornton), Joan D (Baby Bee), Pat C (Arvada/Baby Bee), Terri F (Southland), Rita G (Lakewood), Diane C (Thornton), Irene D (Thornton), Lisa S (Brighton/Thornton), Edith L & her sister Alice (Brighton) for all of your hard work. (editor's note...Frances Scott a long-time WHWB volunteer deserves special recognition for coordinating this event.) *******************************************************

Warm Hearts ~ Warm Babies Growth - May to July 2019 New Agencies University Hospital in Highlands Ranch...Los Pobres Center(Avondale)...Memorial Hospital( Colo Springs) New Work Groups Baby Bees(Arvada)... Possibility for two new Work Groups New Volunteers Every Work Group gained new volunteers. These new volunteers are due to the Quilt-A-Thon and our seasoned volunteers talking about WHWB and passing out our flyers. Plus many volunteers are bringing their friends who decided they want to become volunteers also. Baby House Volunteers Many more volunteers have came forward to help with the assembling of layettes…this makes it faster and easier to prepare the donations for delivery. These volunteers allow new people walking through the door to get a proper welcome, and a tour of the Baby House if they want to see what we do. Donations We are receiving some monetary donations, and many fabric and yarn donations. Due to all fabric and yarn donations, we have a wonderful selection for all volunteers that come in and “shop” (we would love to see many more come visit to see the WHWB “headquarters” and “shop”). Remember this is your Baby House too.. VISIT the WARM HEARTS ~ WARM BABIES Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/warmheartswarmbabies
