Spring FairWow…. It was wonderful to see our school transformed into a hub of fun and activity on Sunday

for the Wamberal Spring Fair! Thank you to the P&C and the myriad of helpers who made this day

possible. Special thanks to Alana, Kerryn and Lucy for their leadership from the onset of planning

through to the great day. It was a pleasure to witness many of our current and former students as

well as visitors and friends join in the array of activities, rides and amusements. A special

‘highlights’ video is on our Facebook page for you to view.

We look forward to hearing of the nancial success of the day, with funds being raised to support

playground enhancements/ upgrades for our students.

Access on to school groundsAll visitors to our school grounds are required to sign in at the oce upon arrival. Whilst we have

an entrance from Aldinga Drive, this is intended for use before 9:30am whilst students are

arriving at school and after 3:30pm when students are departing. During operational hours, all

visitors are kindly asked to only enter and exit via our Lea Ave entrance where you will be greeted

by our lovely admin team. This will ensure we know who is on our site at all times. As part of the

upgrade to our school, security gates will eventually limit access during operational hours from

the Aldinga pedestrian entrance.

World Teacher Day 2019This Friday we recognise International World Teachers’ Day… which is now celebrated in more

than 100 countries world-wide and was rst established by the United Nations Educational,

Scientic and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1994, recognising the role teachers play in

society. As International World Teachers' Day (5th  October) falls within school holidays,

Australian schools celebrate WTD on the last Friday of October each year.

Our teachers are passionate and dedicated to ensuring the best opportunities and outcomes for

the students here at Wamberal…Thank you teachers!

Health and Safety: Allergies and AnaphylaxisAnaphylaxis is a potentially life threatening, severe allergic reaction which occurs after exposure

to an allergen (usually to foods, insects or medicines), to which a person is already extremely

sensitive. We have a number of students at Wamberal Public School with anaphylaxis and similar

allergic conditions and our sta undertake face-to-face and online training in providing an

emergency response to this condition. As a supportive community, we work hard to educate their

children about the risks of sharing food.

As a school we do everything we can to reduce and eliminate potentially dangerous allergic

reactions for our students, sta and visitors who may have allergies including anaphylaxis. Some

of the ways we do that is to consider the following:

Food Allergies

We educate children to avoid exposure to food allergies by teaching students not to share food

and to ensure the canteen doesn’t include food known to trigger allergies such as products with

peanuts, nuts, milk, eggs, sesame and soy. We do not use nuts or nut products as part of our

teaching and encourage all parents to pack lunches that do not contain known allergy foods.

Insect Bite / Sting Allergies

We consider activities that may increase the likelihood of human contact with insects such as

Page 6: Wambi's Wavebreaker€¦ · Green and 2 Yellow, Concert Band competing in Bandfest Friday, October 25 Stage 1 Kincumber Mountain Excursion - 2 Red, 2 Purple and 2 Orange Tuesday,

We consider activities that may increase the likelihood of human contact with insects such as

bees, wasps and jumper ants. We consider where we do outdoor activities and avoid grassed and

garden areas containing plants that may attract bees and other stinging and biting insects. Our

plant selection is also considered. We mow the grass as often as possible to reduce clover.

Medication allergies

We consider any substances used and stored at the school including student medication.

Medications such as antibiotics and aspirin can trigger allergies. We remind our community that

any student medication that needs to be administered at school comes to the oce to be

administered by a qualied sta member and is not left in student bags.

Latex allergies

We consider materials used in workplace activities including things such as latex gloves,

balloons, swimming caps and goggles.

Sta Education and Training

All sta are trained in the use of an adrenaline auto injectors in the event of an emergency and

are aware of where our injectors are stored. At our school they are stored in the sick bay in the

front oce area and are clearly labelled. We display signs and posters about anaphylaxis around

the school and provide every teacher with information on students at our school who have

allergies.

Student Education

Regular reminders are provided to students about the importance of washing their hands

thoroughly before and after eating.

Though we take every precaution possible to reduce and eliminate known allergens we cannot

always guarantee to be nut and allergen free. Parents are advised to still remain vigilant in

ensuring their children who do have allergic reactions are well aware of their own safe measures.

If your child has any medical or health needs, including allergies and anaphylaxis, please ensure

you provide the school with up to date medical information, a Health Care plan from the doctor

and an in date auto injector pen and / or other medication. This way we can ensure we have the

most up to date information, resulting in the best care and support for your child whilst at

school.
