HARMONY BENCH PROJECT Congratulations to our students leaders who
have completed the Harmony Bench
Project. The bench has now been installed
and is being used by students. The project
was the initiative of the Year 6/7 student
leaders who, with the assistance of Mr Des
DeVroome, planned where the bench was
to be located, underwent fundraising to
purchase the bench, dug up dirt,
compacted the ground and got the area
completely ready for the bench to be installed. It is fantastic to see our Year
6/7’s taking the initiative to coordinate such a fantastic project.

Last Friday, 8th September we held our annual Fun Run. The weather proved to
be quite suitable for such an event and the kids did themselves and their House
Teams proud with their achievements. Overall the F/1 class ran a combined total
of 19.7km, the Year 1/2 class ran 30.3km, the Year 3/4’s ran 33.4km, the Year 5’s
33km and the Year 6/7 class 34.5km! This means that the entire school ran a
combined total of 150.5km which was an incredible accomplishment.
The House Points were allocated to each class and the overall winners of the day were
the Bilbies with a total of 54.3km. In second place were the Wallabies at 49.8km and
coming in third were the Echidnas with 46.8km.
Well done to everyone who took part!

From the Principal Last Monday, Michelle Burns, Kim Waterson and myself
travelled down to Bethany Christian School in Paralowie to look
at how they best support students in their learning. We were
recommended to visit this place by the Association of
Independent Schools as a school who uses their resources well
to provide the best outcomes they can for their students.
We were pleased to note that they had many similarities to WLPS:
The school endeavoured to connect families to outside services (like speech
pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Educational Psychologists),
displaying an understanding of meeting students Social and Emotional
needs in order to access improvement in academic performance.
The school worked hard to identify student needs and how they could be
attended to as students joined the school.
The school focussed their intervention at the junior primary end of the school
before ‘gaps’ opened up between student ability.
The school had what they considered ‘best practise’ literacy programs in
place to meet student needs.
As we walked away, I felt proud of our achievements as a community in the last
18 months since we last reviewed Learning Support. It is an exciting time as we
again review our support structures through a Learning Support Review, and as
we undertake strategic planning. As the opportunity arises in the next five
weeks, please take the opportunity to feedback your thoughts, as when we all
contribute to our school we share the vision we create for the future.
God bless,
Adam
Student Led Conferences Thank you to those families
who have returned their
Student Led Conference
Form. If you haven’t returned your
form, please do so ASAP. A letter
confirming your conference time will
be forwarded home with your child
today.
Term 3 “Souper” Fridays “Souper” Friday is on again
this Friday, 1st September!
We will be selling Chicken
Noodle Soup at lunch time
for $2 per cup which includes a
bread roll. Students who wish to
purchase soup will need to bring
along their money as well as a plastic
heat proof cup and spoon.
From the Finance Officer Please be advised that in-
voices for Term 3 will be
forwarded this week!
Also, could all Year 3/4/5 camp
payments please be finalised asap
as the camp is next week.
NAPLAN Results Today, for those students
who sat the NAPLAN
tests earlier this year, the
results will be delivered
to home via child courier in an
envelope. The official national
release date this year was the 2nd
August and many schools send their
data straight home. As a whole
staff, we hold the data until as a
staff, we have critiqued the data to
better inform our teaching practise.
Reading our school’s data is best
done by following an individual
child’s progress, as small groups of
student results can be easily skewed
by a handful of results. Our data
showed great improvement in
literacy, particularly spelling. This
year we will be tracking four students
particularly to follow up on the
possible reasons for their success in
testing, and we will follow through by
letting you know the results of this
follow up.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK Teachers are encouraging the attitudes of appreciation, commitment, confidence, cooperation,
creativity, curiosity, empathy, enthusiasm, independence, integrity, respect and tolerance as a tool
kit for successfully relating with others. As a way of celebrating the demonstration of these
attitudes by students, staff have elected these students this week.
Year 6/7 Class (Mr Braun and Mrs Waterson)
Enthusiasm - Lilli Hull. I have thoroughly enjoyed Lilli’s eagerness to do Exhibition during the day.
She is always asking for more Exhibition time which is awesome. Well done Lilli, keep it up!
Appreciation - Stella Thomas. Stella showed awesome appreciation during an activity in class. She
was able to think deeply about being thankful for different objects in class and provide a detailed
explanation as to why. Great work Stella!
Year 5 Class (Mrs Burns)
Cooperation - Flynn Andrew. Flynn showed consistent cooperation skills last week when working
with his partner on the UOI final assessment task. Both boys clearly communicated what they
wanted to achieve and how they would do that. Well done Flynn!
Cooperation - Owen Kroehn. Owen and his partner demonstrated positive cooperation and
communication skills last week on their UOI. They were able to share ideas and listen to each other
and therefore used some clever thinking and techniques to evoke a response from their audience.
Well done Owen!
Year 3/4 Class (Mr Fladrich)
Cooperation - Gemma Gay. Gemma has displayed excellent cooperation skills when working with
her partner to research forces experiments. Well done Gemma!

COMMUNITY NOTICEBOARD
CORNER OF PEACE
The pictures say it all. Our human law judges wrongdoing with a penalty, and so it is with
God….. BUT He provides a way out to wipe away the wrong in our spirits, souls and
bodies…….What a wonderful way to put away the fear that hold us and live in peace.
God bless
Moira
