INTRODUCING WWPS’S SIX PILLARS OF CHARACTER
As mentioned earlier in the term, there has been a lot of discussion and collabora-
tion between students and staff about revisiting our core school values. Over the
coming weeks this year, we will be focusing on introducing these character values
and will be looking to you, our parents, family, friends and school community to
not only discuss these with your children but to live and demonstrate these along-
side us.
The Six Pillars of Character is a borrowed framework which aligns perfectly with
our chosen core values. The agreed upon ethical values of: Trustworthiness;
Respect; Responsibility; Fairness: Caring and Citizenship will be used at Wagga
Wagga Public School to help instil a positive learning environment for students
and a ‘culture of kindness’ for all, ensuring our school remains and continues to
thrive as a safe, caring and welcoming environment for our
children to learn. Have a great week.

Mindfulness in the Classroom
We know that to really make a positive impact
on children’s mental health, we need to provide
them with skills that can be used throughout
their lives. If we tune in to our body and our
mind through mindfulness and meditation, we
can improve our learning. The Smiling Mind
Education Programs are mapped to the
curriculum and designed to support educators
to bring mindfulness into the classroom.
The Smiling Mind Education Program offers
mental health and wellbeing tools designed for
primary and secondary aged children. It has
been successfully implemented in a wide
variety of government and non-government
schools with positive results in classes of all
sizes, backgrounds, locations and ages.
The Smiling Mind Education Program has been
proven to help students with sleep, wellbeing,
managing emotions, concentration and school
behaviour including reductions in bullying. The
program also assists with:
stress management,
increased resilience,
increased creativity,
better decision making, and
a sense of calm, clarity and
contentment.
Research has shown that involving the whole
community – teachers, parents and students –
is the most effective way to gain the long-
lasting benefits of mindfulness.

SRC FUNDRAISER
Don’t Forget!
DONATION WEEK IS COMING UP! This week is the SRC fundraising donation collection week. Money raised will go to
purchasing new toys for the Children’s Ward at the Wagga Wagga Rural Referral
Hospital. A few weeks ago, your child (eldest child) would have received a white envelope stapled
to a Fundraising note. Please use this envelope to place your donation in and put it in the box
labelled ‘SRC Fundraiser’. This box will be in the front office until the end of this week, Friday
9th May. If you have lost the white envelope, please place your monetary donation in a snap lock bag
with your child’s name and amount enclosed on it and place it in the box.
Next Wednesday, 14th June (Week 8) we will be holding a Wacky Wednesday. Students can
dress looking ‘wacky’. The SRC are hoping to meet their target of $1000 so they can make their
teachers dress/look wacky on this day too.
Last Thursday, the Whisperers took on The Rock Central School while the Wonders faced off against
Corowa Public School, with both teams coming up winners! It’s also fantastic to see big improvements from
our beginning team (Wonders) while our experienced team (Whisperers) are being exposed to different
roles and responsibilities.
In Week 5, WWPS participated in the Tony Lockett Shield. We were lucky to receive some warm weather
and it was fantastic to see the sportsmanship that was demonstrated throughout the day by our players.
Also, thank you to the parents who were able to assist with transport.
