EXCITING TIMES AHEAD FOR WAGGA RSL CLUBRenovations are underway at the RSL with our bistro and lounge area getting a major face lift. The new areas will provide a fresh look for the club and a relaxed location for members and guests to socialise.

A fantastic new cafe and the installation of a wood fired pizza oven will mean an exciting time for the bistro with the launch of a new menu and an exciting new dining experience. Dine is still open during the renovations so you can continue to enjoy all your favourite meals.

The opening of a more expansive lounge will give you a new place to sit back, relax and socialise with family, friends and colleagues. The extension to the lounge provides more seating in comfortable, modern surroundings to share a coffee or a delicious meal from Dine. The new lounge area is embraced with natural light as it overlooks the picturesque bowling greens and the Murrumbidgee Turf Club.

In conjunction with the new lounge, the casino bar will undergo a major upgrade where you will now enjoy service from the lounge end of the bar and an expanded gaming area.

The renovations are expected to be completed by late April. The changes will allow greater opportunities for members and allow us to better cater to the needs of the wider community that we are a part of.

We are very excited about these changes and welcome you to come and check them out. Please be mindful that there will be a hive of activity at times with different trades coming and going but we just ask you to be patient with this.

The Wagga RSL and Commercial Club is passionate about giving back to the members and community who have helped make us the success that we are today. It is our hope that these renovations will extend on the great facilities we offer and anticipate that members and guests will utilise, support and enjoy our latest extensions and ugrades.

Children 12 years and under will receive a free kids meal with any adult main purchased. Our kids meals include a roast of the day, steak and vegetables, pasta of the day, fish and chips and more. DEFEAT THE HEATHeatwaves are Australia's 'silent killer' with more Australians dying as a result of heatwaves than floods, bushfires or cyclones. Most people know the devasting 2009 Victorian fires killed 173 people - what is less widely known is the heatwave before the fires led to 404 deaths.

Clubs Australia and Australian Red Cross have launched a new program to help keep people safe during heatwaves. Wagga RSL Club is one of the three clubs to pilot the program. The Defeat the Heat initiative will give people who are at risk a place to escape the heat and raise community awareness about the dangers of heatwaves. In the event of a heatwave this summer, Wagga RSL Club is a designated cool spot for you to take respite by providing you with shade, airconditioning and activities.

What do you love to do in your spare time? Those that know me would agree that I am addicted to cycling. If I am not at home with Lyn my wife or at work at Commins Hendriks I am usually out on my bike with lots of great

friends. In my spare time I organise cycle events like “Gears and Beers” for the Rotary club of Wollundry.

What is your favourite movie of all time? It’s no classic but “Kelly’s Heroes” is up the top for sheer enjoyment, with a brilliant cast that included the who’s who of Hollywood in the 70’s plus great music, I have found myself watching it time and time again. I also have to add Skyfall possibly one of the top 3 James Bond movies made to date, so much action.

If you could change one thing in this world what would it be? Access to best practice internet bandwidth for everyone (young and old) who chooses to live and work in Regional Australia. Hand in hand with that goes a government that has the vision to build internet infrastructure on the scale of the Snowy Hydro scheme. If we did it once why do we keep making excuses for not being able to do it again?

What is your favourite holiday destination? Lyn and I enjoy Noosa, it has a great beach, brilliant National Park, and a very relaxed atmosphere. I couldn’t think of a better place to lie on the beach and read a book.

What do you hope to achieve as a Director of our Clubs? It’s most important that we don’t lose sight of the foundations on which the club was built and the significance of the sacrifice that was made by others that allow us to enjoy what we have today. We have an obligation to provide an enjoyable experience for all our members and guests in a safe and welcoming environment.

LEISURE COMPANY'S BUSINESS BOWLS COMPETITIONSummer is here and there is no better way to spend time having some fun with business colleagues than playing barefoot bowls!
