A Green label on CPU chassis in DCU

To make the stable IEEE1394 connection between DCU and DRU, ensure that;

1) DCU is grounded firmly. 2) The cable is grounded through the cable clamp in the DCU. 3) The cable is not damaged at the back side of the IEEE1394

connector in the DCU.

Read the Output Data (%) in the Output Setup menu on Furuno GPS.

(FQ4-2011-016)

Ensure that CPU chassis in the DCU is marked with a green label.

Note Do NOT turn off VDR/S-VDR.

Download “Log” with VDR Maintenance Viewer, referring to FQ4-2011-022.

Ask the captain that the system has generated 082/084 error within the past one month. If yes, inquire how often. h

Check Items after Upgrade After upgrading the system to V0x.54, check the following installation conditions, settings and functions with the check list. If time is limited and you omit the item, check NO. Items 1, 2, 8 to 15, 17 to 19 are mandatory. 1) Ask the captain whether the system has generated error 082/084 before. If yes, ask

a question about frequency (how often). Before upgrading the system, ask the captain whether the system has generated error 082/084 within the past one month. If yes, ask the captain how often the error occurs.

2) First, download the Config file and log. Before turning off the VDR/S-VDR, connect the VDR Maintenance Viewer to the DCU and download the Config file and log. If you cannot connect the Viewer due to the system error, check NA.

3) Ground the DCU firmly. Measure the resistance between the DCU chassis and ship hull. If it is 1 ohm or more, make grounding more securely: remove the coating at the contact surface or connect the earth terminal on the DCU to the ship hull with a thicker (lower gauge number) IV wire. If the DCU is already grounded firmly, check NA.

4) Ground the IEEE1394 cable (30 m) through the cable clamp. As described in FQ4-2009-003, the armored IEEE1394 cable is grounded through the cable clamp in the DCU. When non-armored cable is used and the cable is already grounded, check NA.

Ground the braided shield through cable clamp.

Fig.1

5) Is the IEEE1394 cable (30 m) stretched in cabling (the braided screen becomes visible at the end of the DCU side, the back side of the connector)? If the cable is pulled on the connector in a high tension when cabling, the cable is damaged at the back side of the connector, causing unstable connection between the DCU and DRU. When the cable is good, check GOOD, and when the cable is damaged, NG.

Ensure that the cable is not damaged.

8/9

6) Read Output Data (%) in Output Setup menu on Furuno GPS and fill in the blank. When the Furuno GPS is connected, read the total output data (%) on the GPS and fill in the check list. If the non-Furuno GPS is connected, check NA.

7) Measure the approximate distance between DRU and the TX antenna of radiotelephone. If the DRU locates near the TX antenna of radiotelephone, the cable may pick up noise and interference which will result in degradation of IEEE1394 communication line. This data is for the future. When the VHF antenna is not more than 1.3 m away from the DRU and the HF/MF antenna 0.7 m, check YES and write the approximate distance down. If possible, shield the cable. When the TX antenna is a good distance from the DRU, check NA.

8) Set APIC Mode in Advanced BIOS Features to Enabled. When the software V2.52 and later, the APIC Mode in the Advanced BIOS Features must be set to “Enabled.” If not, the automatic recovery function of the IEEE1394 communication line does not work properly, generating the error 082/084. It is recommended to update the BIOS as described in FQ4-2011-011. When you make sure that the APIC Mode setting is “Enabled” with the green label or serial number (FQ4-2011-016), check A/D, or Already Done.

If you are unsure that the APIC Mode is set to Enabled and do not have the monitor, use the CF card for changing APIC mode.

9) Replace the CF card with one having V0x.54. Replace the CF card with V01.54 or V02.54. Check either V1.54 or V2.54 which you used.

10) VDR Maintenance Viewer on your PC is V1.36-03. VDR/S-VDR with V0x.54 needs to be setup with the VDR Maintenance Viewer of V1.36-03.

11) VDR Config Version is VC02.30 in the System tab. The version of VDR Config file for the V0x.54 system is VC02.30, the same as V0x.52. If the previous software is other than V0x.52, the downloaded Config file must be converted with the converter available on the Technet. The System tab of the Maintenance Viewer shows the Config version.

12) Save VDR Config file onto DRU, HDD, and CF card. By pressing Write button in the VDR Config Management display, save the VDRConfig file onto DRU, HDD, and CF card.

13) The system runs without any error and REC COUNTER in the status monitor increases. Ensure that the RAP and AP show no error and the REC CONTER values in the Status Monitor of Maintenance Viewer (Fig.3 on the next page) increase every about 15 seconds.

14) Thirty-minute recorded data is played back normally with V1.36 Live Player V4. Leave the system for about 30 minutes to save the data. Do not change the configuration during this period. Then, playback the data to check that the recorded data is replayed with the LivePlayer V4 (V1.36-03) normally.

15) Download the final version of Config file. Make a copy of VDR Config file on your PC and post it onto the Technet later as requested by FQ8-2010-001.

16) Check how old is the HDD. If it is used for 2 years (20,000 hours) or more, recommend the user to replace it with new one. State this recommendation in the service report. If possible, check the HDD by using the SMART tool. If the HDD is younger than 2 years, check NA.

17) Update LivePlayer V4 installed onto the ship’s PC to V1.36-03, if used. Update LivePlayer V4 installed onto the ship’s PC, if connected. After update, the server-hostname (Default value: 10.0.0.100) is changed to one assigned for VDR in the ship’s LAN network, if necessary. Typically this change is not necessary but onboard MOL vessels, the IP address of 192.168.*.* is used.

18) Replace the Live Player V4 CD-ROM with V1.36-03 and Data Extraction Procedure instructions with F version. The DCU produced in March 2012 and after provides the“HDD LED status monitoring circuit” and the RAP and AP generate only error 082 and 084 respectively. Thus, the Data Extraction Procedure instruction is revised. Not to make the authorities confused, all instructions are replaced with the latest version (F). The CD-ROM and instructions are kept in the pocket on the DCU (Fig.4).

Fig.4

19) Replace Error Codes with F version and explain new error codes to the user. The V0x.54 software generates additional error codes, 433 to 436.
