Kelly Roberts, President

I hope everyone who attended the May DE event at Waterford Hills had a great time. I didn’t get a chance to join in but I always think about just how much fun everyone must be having all the while I am stuck in my office sorting through paperwork and build schedules. If anyone has an interesting story about something that happened or if you would like to share your thoughts about how we could improve the DE process please send it to the Bahn Stormer so we can share it with the rest of the members. We have an entire calendar of events lined up for the summer starting off with a tour of RM Motorsports – From Racing to Restorations being held on Saturday June 4th in Wixom and hosted by Matt Huber. The following day you have the opportunity to participate in the Sunday Brunch Drive being hosted by Sue Sarin. This event starts at 10:00 AM in the Farmer Jack parking lot located at M-59 and Old US23. You will be treated to a spectacular drive through some of the most picturesque back roads in Michigan with the event culminating at the River Crab Restaurant in St. Clair. We are getting plans finalized for our 2nd Annual Rally Sport Challenge to benefit Make–A–Wish Foundation®. I think Matt Huber has done an outstanding job of putting together an event that the whole family will be able to enjoy. I hope to see you on Saturday, August 20th when we kick things off with the Park–n-Ride at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor. Even if you can’t make it to this event I hope you can find it in your heart to send us a small donation to help this outstanding organization to help bring hope and enjoyment, even if just for one day, to a sick child. Thanks. It has taken me the better part of three days to

actually sit down and write my article for this month’s Bahn Stormer. For those of you who have attended an event in our home I am sure you remember our little dog Penny. When I left for work on Friday morning she was running around doing her normal morning routine, helping me make coffee, getting under foot and taking her daily medicine. Every morning before I left for work I would stop, give her a doggie cookie, and tell her to be a good girl and that I loved her. I would tell her I would see her when I got home. Before I could return home from work that same day I received a call from Susan, she told me that Penny wasn’t acting like herself so she was taking her to the veterinary office to see what was wrong. Well, not to belabor this story, our Penny had to be put to rest early Saturday afternoon May 14th. Just like I have said in the past, you just never know what tomorrow is going to bring. So, the next time you are running late for work or some other event has consumed every minute of your day remember to stop, relax and tell your family that you love them, even your pets. Until next Month, Kelly No Personal thought this month: Instead I would like to end this month’s article with a message from the writings of Saint Francis of Assisi. “Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible”.

Nitrogen is an inert, dry, non-flammable gas that is used in tires for all commercial aircraft, LeMans, Formula One, the U.S. Mili-tary and more. The benefits of Nitrogen in-clude: Better tire pressure retention, elimina-tion of rim rust, removal of oxidation, cooler running tires, improved fuel economy and on-the-road reliability.

Nitrogen improves tire pressure retention because its molecules are larger in size, which allows it to migrate through a tire 3 to 4 times slower than regular air, which keeps your tire pressure where it should be that much longer. By maintaining proper inflation pressures the recommended “contact patch” of the tire is on the road. Keeping the correct

inflation pressure on your tires maximizes vehicle handling. Having your tires at the right inflation pressure can improve your miles per gallon by lessening the rolling resistance that under inflated tires have. Tire life can also be improved by filling your tires with Nitrogen. If your tires are under inflated, they may quickly wear on the shoulders and if they are over inflated they may quickly wear in the center of the tread. Tires inflated with Nitrogen run cooler than tires inflated with regular air. Re-moving the oxygen also eliminates the oxida-tion and condensation that can damage inner liners, steel belts and rims. Until next issue, -Jeff

Need Car Advice?

Ask Portia ©

Dear Portia, My teenage daughter wants to get a tattoo. Should I let her do this or not? Downriver Dad Dear DD, It really doesn’t matter what you tell her because if you say yes she will get one and if you tell her no she will get one, just somewhere you can’t see. Suggest that she get something tasteful like a Porsche crest or a 911 silhouette. Portia has a very stunning Harley tattoo and no, you can’t see it. Dear Portia, I saw in AutoWeek that Porsche is going to make a four-door sedan. Can this be true? Shocked & Awed Dear S & A, It sure looks that way, dumpling. Porsche is in a very precarious position financially, and one misstep or a bad sales year could find them a minor component of VW AG. It’s all about the money, honey. Since you ask, Portia wonders: Can a minivan or pickup be far behind? Dear Portia, Do you have any political leanings? Gregor O’Paddy Dear GO’P, Ach, nein! Portia stays away from the politics altogether. One time Loki wanted help in a campaign to get Thor’s hammer. Portia turned him down flat. Never did like the little twerp, he was always trying to sneak a peek down my brass bra. Portia’s political motto is: vote the bums out. Dear Portia, Now that summer is here how do you protect your skin from the sun? Pale Patty Dear PP, Helios is an old friend and former sweetie of Portia and wouldn’t think of burning her but for you mortals there’s hope. Mix equal parts badger fat, yak groin grease and olive oil. Apply liberally. If you are a Republican just apply. Guaranteed 100% UV protection.

Portia wants to remind her fans that she will entertain any questions pertaining to cars and driving. She will

gladly provide you with feedback, answers or abuse at her discretion. So don’t be shy, just Ask Portia. ([email protected])
