Lipinski Receives Leadership Award for Standing Up for America’s Seniors Congressman Daniel Lipinski (IL-3) has been chosen by over 400,000 members of the Retire- Safe organization to re- ceive their “Standing Up for America’s Seniors” Leadership Award. The award is presented to a small group of elected of- ficials each year who have distinguished them- selves through various actions that benefit sen- iors throughout the na- tion, now & in the future. RetireSafe is a nonparti- san organization. “I take great pride in looking out for the inter- ests of the Third District's senior citizens while on Capi- tol Hill, and stand ready to help them cut through bureaucratic red tape at home to get the services they need when they need them,” said Rep. Lipinski. “My office has helped countless seniors get answers and solve problems involving Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Veterans' benefits, the Postal Service and many other federal issues. I also host Senior Fairs throughout the year to give seniors a chance to get assistance with a variety of issues from my staff, as well as local or- ganizations, agencies, and businesses.” Rep. Lipinski is receiving the award for his proactive efforts to finally establish an accurate consumer price index (CPI) upon which fair and equitable cost-of-liv- ing adjustments (COLAs) may be calculated for Social Security beneficiaries and military retirees. Hannah Tassone Meteor of the Month De La Salle Institute proudly announces that Han- nah Tassone has been chosen the Meteor of the Month for September at the Lourdes Hall Campus for Young Women. In a joint initiative between the school’s Campus Ministry and its City of De La Salle student govern- ment, nominations are received from faculty and staff highlighting stu- dents who are motivated and enthusiastic about the school’s Lasallian mis- sion inside and outside of the classroom. Specifically, nominees are students who stand out among their peers by having demonstrated one or more of the Lasallian Principles of Faith, Com- munity, Service, Social Justice and/or Association. Tassone maintains a 3.509 grade-point average and is ranked in the top half of the 99-member Class of 2015 at De La Salle’s Lourdes Hall Campus for Young Wo- men. De La Salle’s Theatre 100 Program to Host Fall Theater Festival De La Salle’s Theatre 100 program will be hosting its fall theatre festival entitled “A Selfie @ the End of the World” on Nov. 13 (5 pm), Nov. 14 (7 pm) and Nov. 15 (5 pm) in the Ayres-Conway Theatre located at the Institute Campus for Young Men at 3434 S. Michigan Ave. This year’s show will include performances by the DLS Beginner and Advanced Improv groups, the tri- umphant return of the Sword Combat troupe and vi- gnettes written and performed by ‘The Thread’ group detailing the trials and tribulations of getting that all- important selfie. De La Salle’s Theatre 100 program will be hostingits fall theatre festival entitled “A Selfie @ the End ofthe World” on Nov. 13 (5 pm), Nov. 14 (7 pm) and Nov.15 (5 pm) in the Ayres-Conway Theatre located at theInstitute Campus for Young Men at 3434 S. MichiganAve.

This year’s show will include performances by theDLS Beginner and Advanced Improv groups, the tri-umphant return of the Sword Combat troupe and vi-gnettes written and performed by ‘The Thread’ groupdetailing the trials and tribulations of getting that all-important selfie.

St. Barbara Students Visit the Field Museum

The first and second grade students visited the Field Museum of Chicago. Theday was filled with exciting labs that the students participated in with theirteachers, Mrs. Foley and Mrs. Mison. The students felt like real scientists asthey explored and experimented. They all agreed that it was fun and theylearned a great deal! The wonderful picture of the group was taken by parentvolunteer, Mr. Ochoa.

Evergreen Academy Middle School

Wearing their Roaring 20's costumes, teachers and staff at Evergreen Aca-demy participate in Halloween fun along with the students.

Advisory students from Evergreen Academy Middle School, located at 3537 S.Paulina, celebrated their ethnicity by creating special “altars” that honor someoneimportant to them who has died. Many families also participated in the Dios DeMuertos nite where they made crafts and enjoyed Mexican cuisine.

On Halloween, students were permitted to dress in an appropriate costume andended the day with a school dance. Faculty also joined in on the fun by dressing inRoaring 20’s attire as the principal asked questions and shared interesting triviathroughout the day.

In keeping with addressing the social and emotional needs of our student body,students will participate in an interactive performance of Show Some Respect pre-sented by Imagination Theater on November 20th.

Buffalo Wings & Rings to Host Breast Cancer

Awareness EventThe Buffalo Wings & Rings location in Bridgeport

is hosting a fundraising event on Sunday, November16th in support of Tickled Pink for Bright Pink.Proceeds from the event will be donated to the non-profit organization, which focuses on the preventionand early detection of breast and ovarian cancer.

Tamburitza OrchestraJoan Harzich-Sipich recently

returned from Cleveland, Ohiowhere she performed with thePrijatelji Tamburitza Orchestra,under the direction of John Gor-nick. This year the Annual CFUAdult Tamburitza Festival whichshowcases the beautiful culture ofCroatia was held at the Renais-sance Hotel with twenty-eightensembles from the United Statesand Canada performing in theGrand Ballroom on Saturday andSunday afternoons.

Music for the Welcome Dance on Friday night wasprovided by T.S. Tamburgeri from Zagreb, Croatia.Since it was the night of Halloween, many of the atten-dees were in costumes. On Saturday night music wasprovided by the Rakija Band of Chicago. This Croatianmusic festival entertains thousands of attendees eachyear. Much gratitude is extended to all in attendancefor their commitment to preserving the Croatian musi-cal culture.

will be celebrating their Second Annual MultilingualMass. The celebration will take place on Sunday, No-vember 16th at the 11:30 a.m. Mass.
