Volume 3 Issue 11 26.11.15

On Thursday 22nd November a team of teachers and children from Bright-on College Pre Prep joined other local schools of Abu Dhabi in the Yasalam Opening Parade. The excited teach-ers and children all walked the route along the Corniche alongside two fantastic floats which represented the Red Bull and Mercedes teams. The procession included vibrant floats representing F1 teams. The first float of the route was the School’s Mercedes float accompa-nied by dancers and musicians. All the children were thrilled to be in F1 costume and waving their flags proudly to open the parade. Our Red Bull float was the penulti-mate float, and our fierce Bull was accompanied by a host of people in F1 related costume. All the children were dressed as racing drivers.

As we all took our places in front of the stage, we were thrilled to be awarded third place with our Red Bull float. It was a huge accomplishment as the competition was high and truly outstanding. The Head Mistress of Pre Prep, Mrs Vigneron says “We were thrilled to be invited to participate in Yasalam’s second Opening Parade. The children thoroughly enjoyed their celebrity ap-pearance walking down the Corniche and it was wonderful to see so many people from the Abu Dhabi commu-nity come along and join in the fun. We were absolutely delighted to have come third and as the youngest par-ticipants this was no mean feat. We are truly grateful to all the teachers, parents and, of course our children, who have worked so hard to prepare and construct our float.”

The School would like to say a big thank you to all the parents and teachers who were involved, as with-out them this would not have been possible, We would like to extend a special thanks to Mrs Broughton, Mrs Baker, Mrs De Louvois, Mrs Van De Veire and our Head of Senior Art, Mr Cooper. We are looking forward to next year already!

PRE PREP HAVE A GREAT TIME AT YASALAM

As part of ‘Abu Dhabi Week of Innovation’, FS2 children were captivated by the idea of creating a spacecraft that could take us to Mars. After watching some footage of space rockets, shuttles and satellites, the children set about making their own craft which could zoom to outer space. Designs were varied with some opting for a traditional rocket shape and others using cylinders, cones and cuboids to bring their exciting ideas to life. Much discussion was had about how we would keep cool if travelling to Mars and how we could ensure that the spacecraft landed safely. These young children are certainly set to be Big Thinkers and Innovators of the future.

INNOVATION IN FS2

Children from FS1 to Year 2 took part in events to mark the first UAE National Sports Day on Wednesday morning. This national initiative is designed to promote movement and sport across the nation and in Brighton College, our children love a challenge! FS1 and FS2 experienced a variety of activities designed to get them moving and thinking. Great fun was had by all including some very brave children crossing the balance beam. In Years 1 and 2, classes, including teachers, competed with each

other in hockey, football and rounders. There were some fierce rivalries being contested between classes and talents emerging amongst the children. Special mention must go to Feliciano Urdu who scored a wonderful top-corner free kick in the football! Our Sports day was a wonderful success and has hopefully inspired our children to discover things that they may not have done before. Everybody is now looking forwards to next year’s event, so much so that we might have to repeat it sooner.

UAE NATIONAL SPORTS DAY ENJOYED BY ALL

FS1 getting innovative and creative! We designed our own special rockets to go and explore Mars! Mars is called the Red Planet and is close to the sun. We also know that Mars is very hot without any water and it is very very very far away!

FS1 OFF TO MARS!

Year 1 have enjoyed using their innovation skills as part of Innovation Week this week. They were given the challenge to design a shelter for someone needing to have a rest in the desert using playground equipment and plastic bags and they managed to come up with some very innovative designs!

INNOVATIVE DESIGNS IN YEAR ONE

Innovation Week has dominated our conversations about how we think we might travel in the future. We looked back over the past 100 years at the development in transport from the early horse and carriage, steam trains and eventually the development of the motor car and planes and trains. All modes of transport that we take for granted in today’s world. What will be the transport of the future we wondered. There were some really impressive ideas and designs throughout Year 2 and we produced lots of sketches. In Literacy, we have been learning about the rhyme and rhythm of poetry and after reading a variety of styles we have begun composing and editing our own poems and adding lots of interesting adjectives to make them more fun. We particularly enjoyed inventing weird and wonderful things which we saw on our way to school.

BUSY WEEK IN YEAR TWO

Leonardo da Vinci Class did their parents and teachers

proud performing a fantastic assembly about Abu Dhabi. Singing and dancing galore,

the children were super little actors and actresses and even remembered all of their lines.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP IN PREPARING FOR NATIONAL DAY!

THERE WILL BE A SPECIAL NEWSLETTER NEXT WEEK WITH LOTS OF NATIONAL DAY PHOTOS!
