American Bikers for Awareness,Training, and Education(A.B.A.T.E.) of Minnesota is a notfor profit, grass roots organizationthat is committed to educating mo-torcyclists and the general publicabout motorcycling. A.B.A.T.E.members ride many different typesand brands of motorcycles. We areall people with a common interestin a common activity. The fact thatwe share an interest in motorcy-cling is more important than thetype of motorcycle we ride.

There are chapters of A.B.A.T.E.located throughout Minnesota. Each of these chapters is repre-sented on the A.B.A.T.E. Board ofDirectors (B.O.D.). The B.O.D. alsoincludes the A.B.A.T.E. state offi-cers. The B.O.D. meets once eachquarter to discuss the operation ofthe organization. In addition, eachchapter holds a monthly meeting intheir area of the state. A.B.A.T.E. isa member driven organization.Members are encouraged to partic-ipate in any of these meetings.

A.B.A.T.E. seeks to promote thepositive aspects of motorcyclingand strives to protect the rights ofmotorcyclists by being involved in

the local, state and national politi-cal process. Safer motorcycling, re-ducing accidents and fatalities canbe best accomplished by educationand training of both the motorcy-clists and the general public, notnecessarily through additional leg-islation.

Our ability to enjoy many freedomswhile riding motorcycles in Min-nesota is the direct result of thework done by motorcyclists in ourstate. These people have joined together to fight for our rights andfreedoms.

The efforts of these people havemade Minnesota a leader in motor-cycle safety. We have one of thetoughest licensing standards in thenation, the best public awarenessprograms, and the most compre-hensive rider education programsin the nation. These efforts havehelped reduce motorcycle acci-dents, injuries, and fatalities inspite of the growing number of li-censed motorcyclists in Minnesota.

To continue these efforts we needyour support and participation.Show your commitment to protect-ing and preserving your rights as a

motorcyclist in Minnesota. Partic-ipate in the meetings, rides, andthe fundraising activities. You willbe informed about the motorcycleactivities in the state by receivingRoad Noise, the A.B.A.T.E.monthly news publication.A.B.A.T.E. is fun, educational anda great way to meet people andmake new friends with similarinterests.

With your help, we can continueto promote the positive image ofmotorcyclists. If you want moreinformation about A.B.A.T.E.,please attend any of our meetings, meet other members, and askquestions.

We are pleased that you have de-cided your rights are worth pro-tecting, that the positive aspectsof motorcycling are worth pro-moting, that education is impor-tant, and that the cost of anA.B.A.T.E. membership is a smallprice to pay to preserve and pro-mote these principles.

Members are the most importantthing that A.B.A.T.E. has, soThank You for becoming a mem-ber and we look forward to seeingyou at our events.

Wow, what a great A.B.A.T.E. of Minnesota StateRally! A tip of the cap to Derrell, Smoker, and the entire Rally crew. To recognize each and every volunteer that worked so hard to make it a greatevent would take this entire newsletter. You knowwho you are and I thank you! The weather was almost perfect (hey, we live in Minnesota!), the eventswere awesome, and everyone was in a great mood. Ifyou missed this Rally, you missed a wonderful time. Our Rally serves many purposes: It is an end of summer get together where our members celebrateall of their hard work together. And it is a great wayto reach out to the rest of Minnesota’s riders and thegeneral public to promote our motorcycling rightsand safety agenda. It is also a “networking group” ofsome of the smartest freedom fighters in the state. Many a successful idea began as campfire talk at theRally. Most importantly, our Rally is a fundraisingtool that allows us to continue the hard work of motorcycling liberty in Minnesota. Without the Rallyprofits, we would need to limit or change how weconduct business. While walking around the Rally grounds over theweekend, my mind kept wandering back to the veryfirst A.B.A.T.E. of Minnesota State Rally. I saw thesame volunteerism. The same pride. The same dedication. The same companionship. And it mademe proud to call these folks my friends.Michelle and I have attended every A.B.A.T.E. ofMinnesota State Rally, from the very first one to 2015.To the best of my knowledge, we are the only peoplewho can make that claim (Sorry Colleen, you misseda couple). A.B.A.T.E. of Minnesota was very young atthe time and so were the attendees. But the spirit remains the same. Our members are what makeA.B.A.T.E. of Minnesota great! And again, I thankyou,Mack

Wow, what a month Septemberwas. Starting with the State Rally and ending withMeeting of the Minds. And now just a couple weeksuntil the B.O.D. in Walker!

So, I survived the State Rally. I did discover that although I don’t consume alcohol, I did suffer the effects of a hangover by association with those thatdo. Isn’t modern science wonderful? Oh yes, let’s notforget the infamous dunk tank the 12th of September.

Anyway, we are off to cooler weather and that meansChapter fundraisers and earlier sunsets. Harvest isgoing strong and deer are being flushed out of thecornfields. Pay attention and look, and then lookagain.

Also seeing how next year is a national election yearthe political climate is heating up already across ourState as well as nationally. Get involved and stay informed. Nothing worries a politician more than aninformed voter. Time for us to stand up and fight tomaintain our freedoms across the nation as well ashere in Minnesota.

Before I get off my soap box, I do want to thank Daveand Liz Herzog as well as Jan and Doug Pilgrim, andKent and Marlene Slavik. And it’s always great to seeour friends up from A.B.A.T.E. of Iowa relaxing andenjoying themselves as we do all the running aroundand they don’t have to.

So, stay alert! Leave yourself an “out” and always expect the unexpected and be surprised when it doesn’t happen!

I would like to thank everyone whoattended the rally last month in

September. Those of you who were there know wehad a great time. And those of you who didn't......well,you have no idea what you missed out on. But, it isnever too late (or early) to start thinking about the2016 Rally. It truly is a "more the merrier" kind oftime. I am already churning some new ideas, andhope to hear some of yours. For some of us there isn't much riding left this yearand with the falling temperatures, cagers are less andless likely to look out for us. I beg all of you to takespecial care if you chose to ride this fall.See you all at the October B.O.D. Benny

Next Meeting(s):October 16th, Northern Lights Casino, Walker, 7:00 pmWell, another Rally is in the books. I don’t knowabout you but I had an awesome time. Congratulations to the winners of the Rally Raffle:Grand Prize : Jamey Pratt, Austin, Ticket #154 Soldby Flatlanders Chapter2nd Prize: Rick Bellin, Rush City, Ticket #1683 Soldby Jack Pine Riders ChapterAt this time I can say that we sold a little over 2,400tickets. I don’t have any final numbers so I don’tknow who has won the traveling plaque or if that wasenough tickets sold in order to do a chapter payback. With everything being so late in the month, I justbarely got the money deposited into the bank on time.I will say this kudos to all the chapters that did signout and sell tickets. I have accounted for all ticketsand did not need to have any monies taken out of anychapter’s general funds. I believe that is a first. So hatsoff to all of you. I do want to remind everyone thatone of the guidelines of receiving a chapter payback isthat tickets need to be turned in by the deadline. There has been some confusion with a few of thechapters feeling that they were due a payback be-cause they did turn in tickets before the drawing. Butin all reality they did not turn in the tickets by thepayback date. Everything has to be post marked bythat date in order to qualify for chapter credit.Well, that’s all for now. Need to get ready for my lastcampout of the season – the Chili Feed. Hopefullythere will continue to be a few nice weekends left forsome fall riding. Please get out and support the otherchapters.

MRF REPORTMIKE BERGER - ASSISTANT STATE REP(952) [email protected]

By the time you read this report, the MRF’s Meetingof the Minds national conference will have come andgone. Fingers crossed, you were there. You got to experience firsthand all the great hospitality ofA.B.A.T.E. of WI, the host of this year’s event. Yousaw what a wonderful place Milwaukee is. Youtoured the Harley Davidson factory. You witnessedTeam Kilt win the annual Tug-o-War competitionagainst Team Bib (a prediction here, one that I’m surewill come true). And most importantly, you learnedfrom the best and brightest from across the countryon how to defend your riding freedoms. Didn’t attend? As you can see, you missed a lot! Look for acomplete report in next month’s issue.

As to national legislative issues, it’s recess time inWashington D.C. as I write this, so things are quiet. But once Congress reconvenes, they’ll be taking upthe Highway Bill. As you may remember, the Senatepassed their version of it, including language thatwould end Federal funding of motorcycle-only checkpoints. The House, sadly, did not pass the bill, and instead opted for an extension.

So with Congress in recess and all the D.C. agencyfolk on summer vacation, it is unclear at this pointwhat will happen with the Highway Bill when theCongress reconvenes in a couple of weeks. They willhave just about six weeks to draft a House bill, conference it with the Senate bill, reach an agreement, and then send it to the President for approval—a lotfor the Congress to tackle in one sitting.

Here’s what you can do to help: call your U.S. Representative and ask them to make sure that theirversion of the Highway Bill includes language thatwould end Federal funding of motorcycle-only checkpoints similar to what the Senate passed. Motorcycles are a completely legal, licensed methodof transportation in the U.S., and there is no viablereason for law enforcement to single out motorcyclists.

There will be much more to report next month nowthat the MRF has set its 2015/2016 political agenda, and rest assured your Minnesota MRF team will keepyou up to date on what’s happening in our nation’sCapitol as the congressional sessional heats up. Anyquestion, don’t hesitate to call either Todd or myself, and as always,

Ride free!

NCOM REPORTFRANK ERNST(612) [email protected]

As planned I attended the SturgisMotorcycle Museum and Hall of

Fame Induction Breakfast during the Sturgis rally. Itwas a great event, it was good to get together withmany friends and see many of the past inductees. Itwas a proud moment when Richard M. Lester washonored for all he has done for the good of motorcycling. Richard has been helping motorcyclistsfor over three decades and it was good to see his effortsrecognized. What an awesome group of people wehave in the motorcycle rights movement. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to work and servewith them.On the other side of the spectrum we suffered a greatloss last month, two NCOM board members passedaway, one due to illness, another a motorcycle crash. We never know how long we have with our friends somake the most of each moment. For the past months we have been doing somefundraising for families suffering financial hardship asa result of being incarcerated following the Waco incident. Many of these people although they willprobably not be charged with a crime have and continue to suffer extreme hardship as a result of beingincarcerated, the crime attending a COC meeting?. I

am happy to report that through donations for T-shirtsand biker generosity we have sent over $1,300.00 inprofits to help these bikers and their families. Thanksto all that helped out. $20.00 may not seem like a greatdeal to many of us but for families that cannot buy groceries or pay their utility bills it makes a big difference. That is all I have to report for NCOM this month but Iwould like to ask a favor of our readers. Please pull outyour September 2015 Road Noise and reread the StateCoordinator Report by Mack Backlund. Please pay particular attention to the comments under the “Inexperienced Riders” heading. Just having owned a motorcycle, having rode many miles, or having beenendorsed to ride a motorcycle for many years does notnecessarily remove someone from the “InexperiencedRider” category.. Developing skills and knowledge todeal with the many situations and conditions a motorcyclist must face is what changes this status. Weare loosing motorcyclists at an alarming rate this yearand a grate deal of these deaths are the result of singlevehicle accidents. Can this be attributed to lack ofproper riding skills, not using good judgment, notbeing prepared? I believe it is! In Minnesota we haverider training classes that can help riders at every skilllevel improve their skills. Are we taking advantage ofthese training opportunities? Let’s do our part to re-duce the needless deaths.Let’s Get Trained & Stay Alive!fe

Chapter GrapevinesSOUTHEAST DISTRICT DIRECTORNITA BAKER (507) [email protected] am finally home after a long Labor Day Weekend. I am dead dog tired, but that's a good thing. I think the rallycommittee did a fabulous job. They have really worked their asses off to make this a memorable state rally. Ithank each and every one of you for all your hard work.I know that summer is on the downside, but hopefully there is a lot more riding time to be had. Remember ifyou are out there riding make sure that you have a trifold with you in case you run into someone interested in

joining A.B.A.T.E. I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of younger people at our rally. If we are going to continue to grow and leave alegacy for our children's children we really need to get out there and get our younger generation to join A.B.A.T.E. When we getyounger people to join, we also need to follow through with these people and get them to attend a meeting and explain what we aretalking about at the meetings to these new people. I believe that we can keep them coming back if they are informed about what it isthat we are talking about. One thing that DOES NOT belong in A.B.A.T.E. is DRAMA!!! It has no place in motorcycle rights whatsoever. I despise it with a passion. We all have different personalities, that's a given, but we need to remind ourselves once in a while that drama has no place inour fight for motorcycle rights. I'm done with that rant. I apologize to those that it doesn't affect.I would also like to thank each and every one that helped make Perry's 69th birthday one to remember. (He is the groundskeeper onthe rally grounds.) He does so much for our organization. He is the first person there and the last person to leave. He has told the people of Litchfield that he would rather do ten A.B.A.T.E. events before he would do one county fair. He was really blown away bythe amount of recognition he received for his birthday. Now that my work for the rally is almost finished, I am thinking of what mynext project will be for A.B.A.T.E. I believe I will start working on sending out letters to many of the driver's education courses here inmy area. I feel it will be a good time to do this this winter when there isn't much going on. I am really psyched to do this for the kids. Ithink it is just another way to get the message across. For every person we get home safely, I believe that we potentially save anotherperson's life by doing this. I loved the display that Dial-a-Ride had at the state rally. It really made an impactful message. The only regret I have about that is that I didn't get a chance to get a picture of it before it was taken down. Great job Dial-a-Ride committee. Please take a moment of your day and contact your insurance agent and have them send you a written copy of an estimate of what itwould cost you for $25,000.00 of extra personal injury protection on your scoot and get that into Todd Riba as soon as possible. Iwould really appreciate it. Todd Riba can't do what he does for this organization without support from the membership. Todd, thankyou for all you do for our biker rights here in the U.S.A. I appreciate all you do.Don't forget to support your sister chapter's events these coming months. We all put a lot of work into our fundraisers; it’s nice to seesome of that support from other chapters. Remember that when you do your fundraisers.I know that elections are a few months away yet, but start thinking about them. It would be great to see some new members step upand take over an officer's position. I would really appreciate the chance to be the Southeast District Director for another term. I havelearned a lot already but I would like to learn more. As always if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free tocontact me anytime.Together we ride free,Nita Baker

A bill, S.B. 3574, has been introduced by a New Yorkstate senator that would prohibit more than 50 motorcyclistsfrom gathering and riding as a group unless a permit is obtained from the New York City Department of Transportation. Here in Minnesota,we don't need no stinking permit.Approximately 30 bikes with 50 riders and passengers attended ourfirst, but not last, fun run. The routeand stops were all well organized.Food, raffle drawings, and musicawaited us back at the campground. Thanks go out toBones and the entire run committee. All the thought and effort in theplanning paid off in good times foreveryone. Ideas for next year are already being discussed. First of all I would like to give a great big thank you to all those who made the State Rally possible. The Northwest District reallystepped up and did their part as I saw people from all but one of the Northwest District Chapters helping at various jobs. A BIGSHOUT OUT to Ed and Beth Engstrom who did way more than their fair share. They showed up on Tuesday and worked with Derrell to set things up and then worked all weekend keeping garbage picked up. So if or when you see them, give them a great bigthank you!!!The October B.O.D. will be in Walker at the Northern Lights Casino with North Star Chapter hosting; hope to see you there.See you on the road,Farmer Jeppe

HEART OF THE LAKESNext Meeting(s):October 9th, Sandbar, Detroit Lakes, 7:00 pmNovember 20th, Edgar and LeAnn’s home, Ottertail, 7:00 pmHowdy Folks,What a Rally!!!! I would like to THANK Derrell and his Committee and everyone that helped make this year’s Rallyvery memorable. AWESOME JOB!!! Mother Nature had tothrow in her two cents, just like always. Made for some funand a few bumps and bruises for a few.On a sadder note, there sure are a lot of people dying on motorcycles this year. Prayers to the families and loved ones. Our Goal in Life is to have zero motorcyclist deaths. Impossible, you are thinking? Well maybe, although throughsafety and awareness the goal doesn’t seem that far off. As theworld keeps spinning faster and faster we need to put one footdown and slow the roll. I stress rider training. My goal is totake a refresher course every year. As a Chapter we have an advanced rider course for YOU, our Chapter members, everyyear. This is FREE to YOU, our Chapter members. Each yearthere are open slots in the class. Some I think feel they are goodenough riders and don’t need this course. Well, maybe. Everyyear I take the course I feel I learn something. I’ve been ridingsome kind of motorized bike since I was nine years old. I feel Iam a pretty good rider. Yet, I feel a training course is needed.Enough on that. The fall colors are upon us and nature’s beautyis out there to view. Fill the tank and go see what God has provided for your viewing. Instead of taking the main roadtake a left or a right and see where it takes you.TAKE CARE and RIDE FREEEdgar

NORTH STARwww.northstarabate.orgNext Meeting(s):October 18th, Eagles Club, Bemidji, 3:00 pmWe had a very busy summer, attended various rides, andhelped with a couple of benefit rides. The first one we helpedwith was "Ride for the Mind" to bring awareness to mentalhealth issues and hopefully spread the word that there aremany resources and how to find them. We also want to bringawareness that depression hits everyone at one time or anotherand what to do about it if it's a chronic problem. It’s not something that means you are weak but that some of yourinner body chemicals are not what they should be to maintaina healthy mind, body and soul. This will be an annual event. We had a pretty good turnout despite the cold and rain. Verygood food, I might add.One of our member’s nephew is five years old and has a rarebrain cancer, and they are struggling to keep up with medicalexpenses. We helped with various behind the scenes work togive a hand. This was a very successful fundraiser for them.It is our turn to host B.O.D. for October and we will be doingthis at Northern Lights Casino in Walker onOctober 16th and 17th. With any luck at allwe may even still have some beautiful fallcolors to display. See you all then.Stay safe.Respectfully submitted by Sharon Polman

FREEDOM FIRST RIDERSwww.freedomfirstridersabatemn.orgNext Meeting(s): October 31st, Halloween Party, Leaf Valley Mercantile,Garfield, 6 00 pmGreetings Freedom First Riders!Wow, I can’t believe it is already September! It seems that riding season just started a little while ago and now it won’t bevery long before we are going to have to do the seemingly unthinkable and put our bikes away for the winter. However, until then, let the rides continue! I know that this year theSanta’s Elves group is putting on another fall colors run tohonor not just Howie, but all of our fallen members. I highlyrecommend anyone interested to look into it on their Facebookpage. I am sure that there are also some Sunday rides yet to behad so get out and ride!On a different note, from the testimonies I have heard and thepictures that I have seen, the Minnesota State Rally was a complete success! Unfortunately I was not able to attend butfrom what I have seen it was full of good company, sled pulls, and mud slides! Congrats to the Freedom First Riders who gottrophies for entering the bike games! You guys are awesome!I recently looked at some of Howie’s old pictures that havebeen given to me and it is this companionship, this togetherness of our Chapter that makes us great. I barelyscratched the surface of all of the pictures that I have from him,but there are quite a few from our past rallies and it is alwayswonderful how something as simple as a love of motorcycleshas brought us all together as a Chapter, as a family. Sometimes I think we forget what brought us all together in

the first place and I fear that unless we get back to the way wewere before, our Chapter will be lost. There have already beenquite a few members that we don’t see anymore. I know morethan anyone that we can’t all make the meetings, but I thinkthere is more to it than that. We have lost touch with our Chapter members from the past. Looking at Howie’s old photos and seeing people camping at the FFR site at Litchfieldthat I have never seen before is proof of that. Some of you maydisagree with me and that is fine, but I really believe that somepeople have gotten sick of some of the drama that has developed over the past years within our Chapter. I am goingto be the first to say that it has to stop. It is a very large elephant in the room and I just don’t think that anyone has hadthe guts to come out and say it before. I know that we all haveour disagreements with each other, but we are all part of thesame cause. I strongly believe that with some work from allour Chapter members, we can become the great Chapter Iknow we are. I know a lot of you personally and have gotten toknow you through FFR, and I definitely love A.B.A.T.E. andFreedom First Riders. I believe in what we are doing and Ienjoy visiting with everyone that I have met through this greatorganization and I want it to continue. I want people to attendthe monthly meetings and I want everyone to share in thatbrother and sisterhood that brought us all together in the firstplace. It is with that that I will say goodbye for now. I hope thatwe can all continue to ride free and enjoy each others’ company and I hope to seesome past members return toour Chapter. We miss you!Ride Safe Everyone“Expect the Unexpected”Patrick

Fall color rides are happening as we speak! Check out the A.B.A.T.E. Chapters in your area for details on upcoming rides and events. This probably gets old but PLEASE support your sister chapters events. Also I wasable to get a large supply of tri-folds and tear offs at the last B.O.D. so if you or your chapter needs some I canget them to you. When there is a function in your area that bikers will attend see if you can have a membership

table. I don't always know about every event but we don't want to miss an opportunity to get the word out about A.B.A.T.E. I have abanner for the district to use and your chapter can contact Ed from Northeast to order the banner he developed. Both are good tools touse at a membership table. With motorcycles deaths higher than last year there will be big pressure from the legislature. Let’s takesome preventative measures by educating the public! At our recent District meeting we shared some great ideas and discussed the January 2016 B.O.D. which the Northeast District will behosting. A big thank you to all the chapters in the district that volunteered at State Rally! You are very much appreciated. With that, as Porkey Pig says,Th-th-th-th-th-th-that's All Folks!! BUFFALO RIDGENext Meeting(s):Saturday, October 3rd, This Ol’ Place, Garvin, 1:00 pmGreetings Freedom Fighters!Thank you to all of you who made it a priority to support ourState A.B.A.T.E. Rally this year. Two of our chapter members,Jan Loft and Liz Herzog, did an excellent job of “manning” thefront gate! Just about everyone else was diligent in taking security shifts. Thank you for all of your help! The illegal alien who killed a local motorcyclist has pleadedguilty to all of his misdemeanor charges. The judge has ordered a pre-sentencing investigation, which will allow inputfrom family members and others impacted by this accidentand Greg’s death. Sentencing will be on September 29th, andour chapter will, once again, be in attendance in the courtroom. His wife, who initially said SHE was driving the car that killedthe motorcyclist, did not show up for her court hearing thisweek. The judge issued a warrant for her arrest, but she stillhas not been pictured in the jail roster, two days later. Somemay say the wheels of justice turn slow, I believe they are justbroken and rarely turn anymore. It isn’t really a crime to drive without insurance or a license inthe state of Minnesota. Really, both are just formalities andguidelines that you can choose to follow at will. So, what happens when you are in a motorcycle accident with an uninsured driver? Does YOUR insurance cover your injuries?Your time away from work? The replacement/repair of yourbike? You might be surprised at the answers to some of thesequestions! Our chapter will be featuring aspecial guest speaker at our Septembermeeting who will cover all of these issuesand give advice on how motorcyclistscan make sure they receive the coveragethey desire. Until we meet again – Kris Gruhot, President

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM STURGIS THIS YEAR AND RUNNING A LITTLE LOW ON GAS(NOT UNCOMMON FOR ME). I STOPPED AT ONE LOCATION TO FILL WITH GAS AND FOUND THEYONLY HAD 87 OCTANES AVAILABLE. I KNEW I COULD MAKE IT TO COSMOS, MN AND COULDGET GAS AT CASEY’S, SO I DECIDED TO GO ON. WHEN I ARRIVED IN COSMOS I FOUND ABRAND NEW CASEY’S HAD BEEN BUILT, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY GASPUMPS INSTALLED YET. I TOOK A QUICK TOUR OF COSMOS TO LOOK FOR OTHEROPPORTUNITIES TO PURCHASE GAS. IF YOU HAVE EVER BEEN THROUGH COSMOS YOU KNOWIT ONLY TAKES A QUICK TOUR TO COVER THE TOWN. I FIGURED IF I KEPT GOING EAST ONHIGHWAY 7 I WOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH CEDAR MILLS AND THEN COME TOHUTCHINSON. I THOUGHT HUTCHINSON WOULD BE MY FIRST OPPORTUNITY FOR GAS. I WASN’T SURE, BUT I FIGURED HUTCHINSON WAS ABOUT 20 MILES. I ALSO FIGURED I HADENOUGH GAS LEFT FOR ABOUT FIVE MILES, LEAVING A 15 MILE WALK ON A HOT DAY; NOTWHAT I WAS INTERESTED IN. I GOT TO THINKING I COULD CALL MY WIFE AND ASK HER TOBRING ME SOME GAS, BUT THAT WOULD BE ASKING HER TO TRAVEL ABOUT 70 MILES EACHWAY. IT ALSO FELT A LITTLE LIKE ADMITTING DEFEAT AND POOR JUDGEMENT; AGAIN, NOTWHAT I WAS INTERESTED IN.

MY NEXT OPTION WAS TO STOP IN A LOCAL TAVERN TO ASK IF THEY KNEW OF SOME SUPERGAS STATION THAT I HADN’T NOTICED. WHEN I WALKED IN THE YOUNG LADY BEHIND THEBAR ASKED IF SHE COULD GET SOMETHING FOR ME. I ASKED IF SHE COULD TELL ME WHERETHE NEAREST GAS SERVICE MIGHT BE. SHE SAID HECTOR, NOT FAR, JUST UNDER 15 MILES.MY REPLY WAS OH SHXX. SHE ASKED ME IF THAT WAS A PROBLEM AND I REPLIED THAT IHAD ENOUGH GAS FOR ABOUT FIVE MILES. WITHOUT HESITATION SHE SAID LET ME GIVE MYHUSBAND A CALL AND SEE IF HE HAS ANY GAS AT HOME. SHE MADE A CALL AND CAME BACKAND TOLD ME HER HUSBAND MIKE WAS COMING TO TOWN WITH A LITTLE GAS. I SAIDTHANKS AND WENT OUT BY MY BIKE TO WAIT FOR MIKE TO ARRIVE AND PONDER MYDECISION TO HAVE NOT PUT IN A LITTLE BIT OF THE 87 OCTANE GAS WHEN I HAD THECHANCE.

IT WASN’T LONG AND I SAW A TOTALLY COOL, HOME BUILT TRIKE WITH A GAS CAN ON THEBACK SEAT PULLING IN. AS HAPPY AS I WAS TO HAVE SOME GAS I WAS ALSO VERYINTERESTED IN THIS COOL TRIKE. MIKE TOLD ME HE HAD BUILT THE TRIKE HIMSELF, AND ITHAD A MOTOR FROM A PIECE OF FARM EQUIPMENT. HE ALSO SAID HE HAD RIDDEN IT AS FARAS WASHINGTON STATE. AFTER I LOOKED AT HIS BIKE A LITTLE I TOOK THE GAS ANDSTARTED POURING IT IN MY BIKE. AS I DID SOWE TALKED SOME MORE AND I TOLD MIKE IWAS ACTIVE WITH A.B.A.T.E. HE SAID HEWAS AN A.B.A.T.E. MEMBER WITH THE WAYWEST CHAPTER. I THOUGHT HOW COOL ISTHIS, MEETING ANOTHER OF OUR MEMBERSTHAT RIDES A REALLY COOL TRIKE WHEN I WASIN DISTRESS. THIS SAYS SO MUCH ABOUT OURMEMBER’S WILLINGNESS TO HELP OTHERS, NOQUESTIONS ASKED.

I AM VERY GRATEFUL TO MIKE AND REBECCAFOR SAVING ME A LONG WALK ON A HOT DAY.
