Balance in the mind
The human mind is a tough pendulum to maintain in balance. The mind
always tends to waver between the past and the future and never settles
down with balance in the present. This is the sole reason for the miseries
we undergo. The mind goes on moving from past to future or from future
to past and never stays in the present. This can be compared to the pendu-
lum in the clock which is driven towards to the extreme polarities but
never stays in the middle.
Always Baba helps us to open doors in our present existence which can
lead us towards a peaceful life. But we always tend to miss these oppor-
tunities as we are continually wavering between the past and future. We
need to understand that we have to balance and keep the mind under our
control.Without the mind it is not possible to undergo self realisation. It
is the mind that undergoes the change and helps us attain the balance.
Mostly what we see is what we project with our mind and perceive with
the mental projections. We also might understand ourselves and others in
a better way if we incline towards a strong balance.
The state of freedom can be attained only when our mental imprints of
the mind are erased and we keep our mind in balance to be led by Shirdi
Sai. We have to remember that Sri Sai lives in all beings and all beings
obey HIS command. In the dawn of this new year let us try our best to
keep ourselves in balance and get blessed by Shri Sai to have immensely
wonderful days to come......

Ninth Step – Atma Nivedhan Bhakti
Bhagat Mhalsapati Sonar
A devotee like Mhalsapati, who was always attached
at Sai‟s feet, and could hardly make both ends meet,
even he was not allowed to make any money. Sai Him-
self distributed to people, many times, the monies that
had come as dakshina; but He did not give a farthing
to him who was always in difficulties. Mhalsapati too
was a man of self respect. Though Sai was so gener-
ous, he never extended his hand to ask Him for it.
Though his financial situation was dire, but he was
very, very detached. He bore the difficulties of poverty always content with
the little he had. He was not a worshipper of money. He only yearned for
spirituality. He had surrendered to Sai with body and mind, unselfishly and
with a loving heart. Hansraj entreated Sai; but Sai did not touch a farthing and
said : “Even My devotees are not lured by money and you will not find them
fall prey to the pomp and show of mony.” With all humility, Mhalsapati re-
turned it and said : “Without Sai's permission, I cannot accept it.”
On Margashirsh Poornima day (thirty-two years before the Samadhi) Baba
had an attack of asthma and He became very uneasy. In order to bear this bod-
ily pain, Baba raised His prana high up and went into Samadhi. Then looking
at Mhalsapati, He point blank said to him : “Do not neglect Me for three
days.” Then Mhalsapati remained alert day and night and took care of Sai. He
sat wide awake near Him.

SAI’S NEWS FROM TIME MACHINE 1921 - Narayan Motiram Jani of Nasik used to visit Shirdi twice a year during
Baba‟s life time. After the passing away of Baba in 1918, Narayana Rao
wanted to visit Shirdi but could not do so due to his illness. Three years
passed and then Baba appeared coming out of a cellar in his dream and as-
sured him that he would recover and within a week would be able to visit
Shirdi. Accordingly Narayana Rao visited Shirdi and Baba again proved that
He is ever alive and would appear before His devotees whenever required and
make sure that all beings obey his command.

DEVOTEES EXPERIENCE
DEVOTEES CORNER
Om Sai Rama,
I would like to share my personal experience with all of Sai Rama followers.
I am a simple (the so called "saadharan" as mentioned in Sai Satcharitra)
bhakt of Shiri Sai Baba, and pray to him daily. I had a beautiful stone statue
of Sai Baba, which I used to pray and purposely look at this feets to get some
"spiritual darshan"- Adhyatmik darshan.
One day unfortunately, my one year son went inside the mandir and pulled
down the staute of Baba. When I came back from office I saw that the statue
is broken, but to my surprise only Baba's right leg is broken and rest all is
good as before. I was really sad and thought how will I see Baba's feet now?.
How will I have the spiritual darshan? I was really quite sad and was won-
dering what Baba wants to say to us? Did he want me to bring new statue or
what else???
Now the main incident begins..
After 6-7 days,on 1st sept 2009, all of a sudden, I observed black patches in
my right eye !! I could not see and almost 70% of the vision was not there. I
immediately rushed to the doctor, which referred me to hospital for emer-
gency. There the doctors asked me to do various tests, and looked at the con-
dition of the eye. The problem was big as I had some bacteria in the eye and
was spreading. (I wondered that was it this that Baba wanted me to tell?) The
doctors also said that I have TB symptoms and the condition of eye is serious
and the vision could be lost. The news was a big shock to me as I could not

Sai appeared as a Gardner and said:
It would be futile to expect shelter under a tree after having sown poisonous
seeds in the past. Trees that are of no public utility will fall uprooted one day
or other.
If good seeds were sown, Result would be the growth of a big tree offering
shelter to the passers by and history in making.

believe at all, that I have TB symptoms.
Unfortunately all the TB tests, one after the other, were coming positive, making it confirm that I have
developed active TB. In the mean time I kept praying to Baba, but I and my family were in such con-
dition that there was tension in the house, because with active TB there is risk that the family members
can also get it too, especially infants.
"I kept drinking some Udi with water in these days". Before the last test result I offered two coconuts
to Baba and prayed for my eye recovery and I should not get TB at all. When I went to the doctor, he
told me that your last test result has come and it has turned out to be positive and thus "confirmed"
that I have active TB.
I was like heart broken, that Baba also left me when I needed him the most. He did not listened to my
prayers and was really angry, upset with Baba, and it was Thursday that day and I did not lit any lamp
in front of him. next day also no prayers. I had no clue why,and how it happened to me and no help
from Baba also. I had been put on very strong medications, called steroids (which I never wanted to
swallow)for treatment but with no improvement. and then new prescription with other strong side ef-
fects medicines for 5 weeks, which showed little improvement.
As a routine eye checkup I had to see the doctor every week, so on my last visit, few days back, he
said that you Don't have TB !!. I said how come, on which he replied that full report for your last TB
test has come now and its some other bacteria and not TB.
I was surprised as to what is this. It was again Thursday that day and I could not stop smiling as won-
dering on Baba's Leela. Very amazing. Now my family is also safe as I don't have any TB and my
medication was also cut down to easy and simple ones. There is lot of improvement in my eye now and
I have full faith that it will be cured permanently with the grace and Blessing of Sai Baba.
I thank Baba totally from bottom of my heart for helping me in tough times and I pray that I can wor-
ship him more passionately and lovingly, and give me "Shraddha and Saburi" for which I need his
blessings.
I also ask Baba to bless all his followers and help them.
Jai Sai Naath.

BABA'S MIRACLE - 16:
~ (A RECORD OF THRILLING EXPERIENCES OF (LATE) DR.P.S.RAMASWAMI ~ (AN ARDENT DEVOTEE OF
SHRI SHIRDI SAI BABA)
BABA'S LEELAS CONNECTED WITH MY FIRST VISIT TO SHIRDI
Being both constitutionally and temperamentally inclined to remain where and
what I am, I did not, at first, agreed to be sent to Kirkee for an 18 week course of
training in Armaments from October, 1955. I was then working as Leading Exam-
iner of Naval Armaments at Vishakapatnam. Ordinarily, such an attitude will not at
all be countenanced in the department. However, having been enabled by Baba to
make by mark, I was allowed a certain latitude. Moreover, it was primarily in-
tended for Armament Examiners in the Army, and they had offered to entertain just
two of us as guest-candidates from the Navy. Hence, I was not pressed further.
Some days later, while reviewing the situation, it occurred to my mind that Baba's
hand was behind it all, that He was providing an opportunity for me to visit Shirdi,
not far from Kirkee, Pune. Here it should be noted that ever since his advent into
my life in 1942, 1 had no chance to visit Shirdi. Nevertheless, I believed in every
word of His, as recorded by H.H. Narsimha Swamiji, that He is with us at all times
wherever we may be and whatever we may be doing. This belief became a cer-
tainty, when in March '44, He manifested Himself with the biksha-patra, took bik-
sha and brought my firstborn son back to life, So, for us Dwaraka Maayi where we
were and continues to be so.
As far as our visiting Shirdi is concerned, it is entirely n His hands, notwithstanding
all our effort or none for that Jitter. Thus, an amount I had set aside to cover the in-
tended roily-trip to Shirdi found its way to other uses, and now withhout the least
effort, He was bringing about my visit. This was borne out by the fact that none
was deputed from the Navy for the future courses. When this realisation dawned
upon my mind, I forthwith backed out of my earlier stand and expressed my will-
ingnes to go to Kirkee. I confessed I was keen because of the Shirdi visit rather than
the course which somewhat annoyed my boss. So, I went. Candidates from differ-
ent establishments and disciplines, not a few of them quite brilliant, had come. Di-
wali was approaching, and I decided to utilise the two holidays for the Shirdi visit.
One day, as was my habit, I was telling some of my colleagues about the Infinite
Benevolence of Baba in granting the wishes of any one approaching Him. Two of
them, specialised in metallurgy, named Sri Soni and Sri Choudhary, hailing from
Kanpur and Katni, respectively, asked me whether I meant what I said without ex-
aggeration. On my categorical assertion that I did, they believed me and agreed to
accompany me to Shirdi. The former, and the younger of the two, wanted that he
should marry the girl he loved greatly. The latter's wife was long overdue for her

delivery, and he was feeling restless on this account. I had no hesitation in assuring them that they could
rest assured of favourable and good news awaiting them on our return. They were impressed, and we three
reached the sacred place at about 7.00 pm on the Diwali day, 1955.
The place was literally jam-packed with pilgrims - men, women and children - obliged here and there to
camp on the roadside. The dormitories and some of the present buildings were yet to come up. However,
on my explaning to the management that I belonged to Waltair and was closely associated with the late Sri
Durgiah Naidu who had pioneered the effort to build guest-cottages at Shirdi and was familiar to them, we
three were generously accommodated in the storeroom. Rather an extraordinarily kind gesture!
The first thing I did after depositing our things was to no to the meals counter to buy tickets, when I was
admonished by Shri Soni that "our first priority is Baba's darsan and not food". But I had no qualms about
it knowing that Baba knew my heart. I was aware of Baba's approval for a spiritual trio like me of the
Upanishadic dictum; 'Annam Brahma' (Food is God). Be that as it may, after darsan and food, we went to
listen to the Kirtan at the Samadhi mandir. On entering, my glance fell on a woman's attractive face. Was
it mere chance or Baba's method of testing? I went out and came back to the room. After all, one spot is as
holy as another at Shirdi, I felt, even as any part of a thing made of sugar-candy tastes as sweet.
The next morning, by the time I bathed and came for Baba's darsan, there was already a long queue of
devotees with trays loaded with flowers and offerings of different kinds. Only then was I somewhat shamed
into realising I was empty handed. I then went to the bazar and after buying things for 'naivedya' besides a
garland and just one rose in bloom, returned and took my position. When compared with the huge gar-
lands smothering, as it were, the samadhi and costly offerings made by others, I felt like a beggar at the
royal Darbar.
At last, my turn came. With some trepidation, I lifted the tray to give it to one of the priests. Luckily for
me, the young man in charge of the stores happening to stand by Baba's statue, recognised me. Possibly
sensing the discomfiture in my thoroughly humbled countenance, rather impelled by Baba Himself, he
reached out for the garland and the rose, put the garland round Baba's neck till then unadorned, and placed
the rose on His Head! I felt accepted. Tears of gratitude overwhelmed me.
On reaching Kirkee the same night, the joy of my two companions knew no bounds to find a telegram and
a letter carrying good tidings awaiting them, one announcing Smt Choudhary's safe delivery and the other
from Sri Soni' parents ratifying the match of his own choice!
Note : Sri Soni later joined the Bhilai Steel Plant, was deputed to Russia for training and attained high
status, while Sri Choudhary joined the I.A.F as Technical Adviser (Metals).

Materialistic pleasures were never the goals of people. They used to be sat-isfied with what they had and with whatever they had, used to help others. Their hearts were filled with pure love, friendship and bhakti. The story of Sudaama, the best friend of Lord Krishna, stands as an outstanding exam-ple for this. Sudaama and Krishna Bhagavan were good friends. The friendship started at their gurukulam under the tutlege of Shri Saandeepa. As always duty takes more priority than everything. Hence, after completing their studies they had to part. However, neither Krishna nor Sudaama could forget each other. Sudaama, knowing who Krishna really was, also had true devotion for him. Sudaama never was interested in earning lot of money. Once after many years, not able to bear the separation from Krishna anymore, he set off to meet Krishna.
On hearing the news of his friend’s arrival, Krishna ran to the city gates to receive Sudaama personally. Krishna, the Paramaatma, hugged Sudaama several times and they broke into tears with uncontrollable happiness and bliss. Krishna took Sudaama to his palace and made him sit comfortably on the sha-
yanaasanam, or seat of Krishna and Rukmini Devi. Krishna, whose feet Brahma himself washed to produce the holy waters of Ganga, washed the feet of his friend, together with Rukmini, with ut-most care. Then the Lord of the worlds, purified himself, his queens and the palace with the
T H E G L O R Y O F S H I R D I S A I
paada jalam, purified water, of the great scholar, Sudaama. Though Su-daama was very poor and did not even have money to eat food, he did not even think about it while he was with Krishna. Krishna took the atu-kulu, rice flake dish, brought by Sudaama for him and commented that it was one of his best ever meals. Both of them talked a lot, till their hearts were full and finally Sudaama returned to his house with a full heart, thoroughly satisfied with the Lord’s sweet words. Morals in the story: 1. Like Sudaama, one needs to be content with what he has. Even given
a chance to ask anything from Krishna, he did not choose to ask him! 2. The nature of pure friendship is shown by Krishna and Sudaama.
Krishna, being the lord of the universe, washed the feet of his friend and purifies himself with the washed water. Sudaama, though was extremely poor, never asked Krishna for wealth and make friendship a business.
3. The kind of respect one must give to an Atithi, or guest, and a scholar is well brought out by Krishna.

SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SATCHARITA ~ CHAPTER 41 Contributed by: [email protected]
Story of the Picture - Stealing the Rags and Reading of Jnaneshwari Continuted from last issue…..
So he resolved in his mind that when Baba would create love for the book and would order
him to read it, he would begin and not till then. Then in the month of February 1914 he went
with his family to Shirdi. There Jog asked him whether he daily read Jnaneshwari. Deo said
that he was desirous of reading it, but he was not successful and that only when Baba would
order him to read it, he would commence. Jog then advised him to take a copy of the book
and present it to Baba and to start the reading after it was consecrated and returned by Him.
Deo then replied that he did not want to resort to this device, as Baba knows his heart.
Would He not know his desire and satisfy it by giving him a clear order to read?
Deo then saw Baba and offered one rupee as Dakshina. Baba asked for Rs. 20/- which he
gave. At night, he saw one Balakram and enquired how he secured Baba's devotion and
grace. Balakram told him that he would communicate everything next day after arati. When
Deo went for darshana next day, Baba asked for Rs.20/- which he gave willingly. As the
Masjid was crowded, Deo went aside and sat in a corner. Baba asked him to come close and
sit with a calm mind, which Deo did. Then after the noon-arati was over and after the men
dispersed, Deo saw again Balakram and asked him his previous history, what Baba told him
and how he was taught meditation. Balakram was going to reply when Baba sent one Chan-
dru, a leper devotee to call Deo to Him. When Deo went to Baba, the latter asked him when
and with whom and what he was talking. He said that he talked with Balakram and heard
from him His fame. Then Baba asked again Rs.25/- as Dakshina which Deo gladly gave.
Then Baba took him inside and sitting near the post charged him saying - "You stole away
My rags without My knowledge." Deo denied all knowledge of the rags, but Baba asked
him to make a search. He searched but found none. Then Baba got angry and said - "There
is nobody here, you are the only thief, so grey-haired and old, you came here for stealing."
After this Baba lost His temper, got terribly wild, gave all sorts of abuses and scoldings.
Deo remained silent and watching, and thought that he might get a beating also. After about
an hour or so, Baba asked him to go to the Wada. He returned to the Wada and told Jog and
Balakram all that had happened. Then in the after-noon Baba sent for all and Deo also, and
said that His words might have pained the old man (Deo) but as he committed the theft, He
could not but speak out. Then Baba asked again for Rs. 12/- Deo collected the amount, paid
it and prostrated himself before Him. Then Baba said to him - "What are you doing?"
"Nothing" replied Deo. Then Baba - "Go on daily reading the Pothi (Jnaneshwari), go and
sit in the Wada, read something regularly every day and while reading, explain the portion
read, to all with love and devotion. I am sitting here ready to give you the whole gold-
embroidered Shela (valuable cloth), then why go to others to steal rags, and why should you
get into the habit of stealing?"

Quintessence from Shri Sai Baba’s Philosophy (By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao) ~ Contribution by "Shashank"[email protected], Mrs and Mr Anand
Chapter 35: The Wheel of Time and the Pangs of sorrow and Death
4. Death is inevitable to everyone. Life and death are tied down by the results of your past ac-
tions. Death means the „Jiva‟ leaving one body for another. Whatever the person thinks at the
time of death that thought will persist and will make Jive enter into a subtle body. The persist-
ing thought at the time of death will lead to a similar future life. The person living in sensual
pleasures are ignorant and cannot understand this truth.
5. When one leaves the body, his relations or his friends should not worry about death. One has
to experience his Karma. If a person gets a disease due to his past Karma, even if he gets re-
lief of the ailment with the aid of doctors and medicines, he has to suffer from that remaining
trouble in the next birth. Karma cannot be dissolved or removed by others. One has to suffer
the results of his Prarabdha-Karma. Know that your body is impermanent and unreal, but you
will take more care of your Deha. Shake off your Deha-Abhimaan.
6. If you do not get attached to caste and creed, body-beauty which are all momentary pleasures,
you will have a peaceful death. However much you take trouble in protecting your body, it is
bound to perish one day. Do not waste your time in giving pleasures to the body. Know that
the ultimate aim of your life is to know and receive the effulgent Truth of yourself.
7. Your death depends on your past actions. If you are in God-consciousness, your death will
take easy stride. Soul is not body and one should not fear death. When the result of all past
accumulated karmas whether good or bad get destroyed, then Jivatma leaves its attachement
to the body consisting of primary elements and gets merged with the Supreme Paramatma.
Those, who surrender to God completely without even a trace of ego, only can get to the Su-
preme-Godhead.
