Heather Lupinetti, Membership Chair, is planning to host a “Mock Interview” program for her college students at Edison College on April 11, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Please contact Heather if you would like to participate. Cheryl Vanande, Workforce Readiness Chair, is also planning to conduct several programs throughout this year and is looking for our member/employer support; please reach out to her if you would like your organization represented. We are also especially excited for our members attending our March meeting, because we will announce the 1 st winner of an HR Florida Conference Registration – valued at over $675.00. Good luck to all those who have actively attended our meetings… the more you attended, the more chances there are for you to win!!! Sincerely, Lisa O’Connor Guest Speaker, Ron Hamilton, M.S. Strategic Compensation Strategies Total Rewards: A Compensation Primer Ron Hamilton’s presentation will cover the basics of compensation. It will focus on how to ensure internal consistency of pay, market competitiveness and the importance of recognition of individual differences. This will include the importance of job analysis and job evaluation; the utilization of market surveys and the development of pay structure, job grades and pay ranges. Also discussed will be the importance of variable (incentive pay) as a cost effective way of improving performance. As a part of the presentation, important compensation issues such as pay compression and how to minimize or eliminate that problem is discussed as well. The presentation is intended for people in Human Resources who are not compensation specialists but need to understand the basics and managers who need to gain a better understanding of the workings of the compensation process. At the conclusion of the program participants will be able to (1) Identify the various base pay systems and the advantages and disadvantages of each (2) Recognize compensation design issues and determine an approach based on organization and employee needs (3) Describe how to value jobs and from that, build a base pay system (4)Decide on a methodology for pay structures and increases (5)Identify the key concerns that must be addressed when designing variable pay plans.
