We hope all had an enjoyable time and made full use of the community facilities and activities such as both the annual pool party and the back to school pizza party, which proved to be extra special this year with the addition of the pool party DJ spending some additional time with us at the back to school party. On the Board front, there is much activity and first we would like to announce and welcome our newest board member, Mr. Jim Wilson. Jim and his wife Ginger have been HRP residents for the past 6 years; they have two daughters and grandchildren who live nearby. Jim expressed an interest in being a member of the board several months back and with his prior experience both as a regional Vice President for Bell South in No CA and as a volunteer community liaison to City government there for 4 years; we are excited about Jim’s ability to contribute. Please thank your neighbor Jim Wilson and his wife Ginger next time you see them for their commitment to HRP. The board made mention in the July newsletter about dues assessments. As August has now passed, any homeowner who has not paid their July assessment is now delinquent and incurring late charges as a result of the additional operational expenses required for CMA management to administer the account. These additional fees do not benefit the HOA and any request for waived fees already incurred do impact HRP financially. A suggestion was made that homeowners may feel that the timing of the dues assessments seems to fall at times when discretionary income is being applied to family vacations or just following the Christmas holidays. While one could contend that the timing never seems right for certain bills, fees and assessments, the Association does accept payment at alternate times of the year. We currently carry a good amount in prepaid assessments where homeowners have chosen to pay their dues in advance. The advantage here is any homeowner currently up to date can submit payments in any amount to their own preferred time scale without a payment plan fee or additional charges. For those who have not been able to keep current, please contact Ed Laskey at CMA to establish a payment plan, as this has the ability to minimize a great deal of the additional financial impact as a result of the necessary administrative and legal filing fees. Finally, a great deal of our time lately has been consumed with working with the Architectural Review Committee to ensure that the guidelines and submittals for homeowner improvements meet the harmony and conformity of our neighborhood. The joint efforts in the last month of both board members and the committee have tremendously improved the process for submittals which we hope the many of you will see the effects of it fully in the coming months. It has been a trying time for the folks involved trying to establish a process that both streamlines the requirements and approval process while keeping priority to ensuring the guidelines are met. While our goal was to have this all in place for this past Summer’s “improvement surge” we are confident that next year’s will be much smoother. Please thank Brett Autrey, chair; and committee members, Melissa Braden, Melanie Chatterton and Sharon Overall for their dedication this season. Don’t forget to register with the HRP website at www.hrpplano. com to enable receipt of urgent information in the future. Our next meeting is Tuesday September 4th at the YMCA beginning at 6:45PM. See you there! Bryan Liptoi On behalf of the HRP Board

October 1stHost: Jan StoreyPhone: When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin In a small town square of a sleepy Georgia town, seven-year-old Annie sits at her lemonade stand, raising money for her own heart transplant. At a nearby store, Reese fl ips through the newspaper, thinking about the latest boat he’s restoring. As a beat-up bread truck careens around the corner, a strong wind blows Annie’s money into the road. Reese looks up in time to see Annie’s yellow dress fl uttering in the wind as she runs into the road. What happens next will change both of their lives forever. Charles Martin’s novel will entertain anyone who enjoys a solidly crafted, heart-touching story.

November 5thHost: Barbara BullockThe Red Tent by Anita Diamant Few stories can evoke a time and place as vividly as Anita Diamant’s compelling tale sprung from the pages of the Old Testament. The Red Tent is the story of Jacob’s daughter, Dinah, and Jacob’s four wives, who all served as Dinah’s mother at some point in time. As Diamant explores the trials and triumphs of ancient women, she brings a foreign yet beautiful world to life as seen through the emotional fi lter of Dinah’s eyes. This lush, evocative tale transcends time and brings new life to the Old Testament, lending a feminine touch to the mighty word of God.

December 3rdHost: To be determinedThe Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls For two decades, Jeannette Walls hid her roots. Now she tells her own story. Hers is a story of triumph against all odds, but also a tender, moving tale of unconditional love in a family that despite its profound fl aws gave her the fi ery determination to carve out a successful life on her own terms.

ARC Article With summer projects really ‘heating up’ please remember to submit an ARC Modification Form (available on hrpplano.com) for any and all architectural modifi cations including fences. In order to facilitate the ARC’s (Architectural Review Committee) review and approval process, and in order to provide a quick and thorough response to requests for architectural additions or modifi cations, the ARC urges owners to submit items for review in an all-inclusive manner. In other words, rather than submitting plans on an item-by-item basis as you submit for the improvements you plan to make to your home or lot, the ARC requests that, whenever possible, submit all plans, drawings, elevations, color samples etc. Brett Autrey ARC Committee

School is back in session as of August 27th. Please be aware of children walking and biking to and from school. Of course, we want all children to be safe and school buses are relatively safe. However, accidents and injuries involving school buses do happen. More often than not these injuries happen when children are entering or exiting the bus. Here are some safety tips for school bus riders.• Have a safe place to wait for the bus, away from traffi c and the

street.• Stay away from the bus until it comes to a complete stop and

the driver signals you to enter.• Hold onto the handrails when entering or exiting the bus.• Once on the bus, take your seat and remain seated face

forward.• Talk quietly so that you don’t distract the driver.• Never throw things on the bus and keep your hands to

yourself.• When you exit the bus, take ten giant steps away from the bus.

When you are closer than 10 feet from the bus, the driver might not see you. This is known as the DANGER ZONE.

• If you forget something on the bus, do not return to the bus to

get it. The driver might not see you.• Be aware of the street traffi c around you.• If you need to cross the street, cross in front of the bus never

behind the bus. Motorists should follow safety rules around school buses. Yellow fl ashing lights indicate that the bus is preparing to stop. Motorists should slow down and be prepared to stop. Red fl ashing lights indicate that the bus has stopped and that children are getting on or off. Motorists must stop their cars and wait until the red fl ashing lights are turned off. Here are a few more traffi c safety tips for motorists.• When backing out of the driveway or garage, watch out for

children.• When driving through neighborhoods and especially in school

zones, watch out for children. Children don’t always pay attention to traffi c and don’t always know that motorists have trouble seeing them.

• Slow down. Watch out for children walking or playing in the street.

• Be alert and ready to stop. Children sometimes dart into the street.
