Third Sunday of Easter / Cinco de Mayo

Pastor’s Corner By Rev. Edgar B. Brillantes

First Reading: Acts 5:27-32. 40-41 In between the event described in last Sunday’s reading and today’s text the Apostles have been arrested, imprisoned, and miraculously released to resume their proclamation of the Gospel. As today’s reading begins, they are apprehend-ed again. Always, there is the shadow of the Cross - Jesus’, the disciples’, and our own. Would that we, too, could rejoice in our sufferings for the sake of Jesus. Second Reading: Revelation 5:11-14 In a vision, John, the Christian prophet, sees God’s heavenly throne surrounded by the elders, the living creatures, and countless angels. They sing praise to the victorious Lamb of God. All creatures in heaven and on earth join in the triumphal hymn. Gospel: John 21:1-19 The Apostles have returned to their former occupation as fishermen – in this instance, with little success. Jesus gifts them with a miraculous catch of fish, then nourishes them with food for body and spirit. The disciples know, without a doubt, that it is the Lord. The longer option includes Jesus’ triple questioning of Peter’s love for him (paralleling his earlier threefold denial). Peter likewise receives a threefold commission to shepherd Jesus ’ flock. Peter’s destiny is the focus of the final verses. His martyrdom, like Jesus’ own Death, would glorify God. Today’s Gospel ends with the command and invitation to “Follow me.” The way of the disciple can be none other than the way of Jesus.

Next Sunday’s Reading Fourth Sunday of Easter

First Reading Responsorial Psalm Acts 13:14, 43-52 Psalm: 100:1-2, 3, 5 Second Reading Gospel Revelation 7:9, 14-17 John 10:27-30

MAHALO TO GOOD STEWARDS

Stewardship is responsible sharing in gratitude of the gifts of time, talent and treasure that God has bestowed upon each one of us. This has been manifested by our dear parishioners in various ways:

***GIFTS OF LOVE

❖We acknowledge all generous contributions which support our pastoral programs and ongoing projects as well as the basic operation of the Church and the rectory through the regular Sunday offering envelopes and donations. We, the priests, the parish staff and leaders, deeply appreciate and gratefully acknowledge all dear parishioners who faith-fully and steadily support our Church with their prayers, stewardship and personal involvement in our parish activities and programs.

❖MAHALO to: *William & Mitronia Amoroso for their donation of $1000 (4/21/19) for the Parish Repairs & Mainte-nance Fund. May God reward them a hundredfold.

*Locations Foundation, a real estate company, for their donation of $294.00 for the benefit of the OLM Youth Ministry. The amount was pooled from the donations of Location’s agents and staff as their way of giving back to the community and reach out particularly to organizations dealing with children and families. The donation was given on behalf of Yvonne Tuihalafatai who is our current bookkeeper

*Alfredo & Andrea Baptista celebrate this year their 57th Wedding Anniversary and donated to OLM $153.00 to mark the occasion.

*Julie Manuel for her donation of a new cloth-cover for the piano in the parish hall.

*The Ilocano Choir & Ministry for their donation of a new beautiful stage curtain to replace the old one at the parish hall.

* We appreciate and thank the generous donors and benefactors of the Easter goodies that were distributed to the children on Easter Sunday.

*Rey & Minda Teocson delivered their gift of 1-year supply of shell leis for use in greeting and welcoming visitors and celebrants of special occasions. Rey & Minda also donated $1,000 for the Church daily operations to mark their 34th Wedding Anniversary. Congratulations and more blessings!

*Fr. Robert Stark, SSS of the Diocesan Office for Social Ministry for awarding OLM Parish the $1,500 Rice Bowl Grant from the Diocese of Honolulu One ‘Ohana: Food and Housing for All.

***MINISTERS & VOLUNTEERS – Our Parish has been blessed with such responsible stewards who serve and give without counting the cost and we keep praising and thanking God for them.

❖BUILDING & MAINTENANCE – Under the lead of Joyce Oliveira, the Parish & Maintenance Committee selected the winning bid for the replace-ment of the old louver windows in the Convent. The contractor is KKTF Hawaii who will install PlyGem Pro Line, white vinyl, double-hung with insu-lated clear low-e sliding glass windows at the contract price of $40,942.81. The amount is taken from the funds raised from the “Save the Convent” fundraising in May and November 2018 as well as from direct donations.

*Volunteer parishioners Jun Cortez and Paul Valbuena teamed up to put up the Easter fountain in the Church for use on Easter Vigil and throughout the Easter season. With grateful hearts we appreciate them for rendering their expert services. We also thank Sio Tuitopou for preparing the fire for the Easter Vigil celebration.

❖CHURCH CLEANERS – Every Saturday a group of men and women parishioners prepare the Church for the weekend celebrations. They clean the altar and the floor, wipe the pews, arrange the books, flowers and linens, put up the seasonal banners and other tasks. They set up the proper worship environments and make our celebrations dignified and meaningful. We do appreciate them for their dedication and devotion. Among them, Marivic Palting takes charge of the plants and flower decorations at the sanctuary. If you are interested to join, please see Roselani Ramones.

❖GARDENERS – The decorative plants by the church are being nurtured and taken care of by the Visayan Community led by Jun & Nida Flores and Eddie & Cita Lucero.

*The grounds and backyard landscape are kept trim by Clem Fontanilla who also checks the doors and locks the gate at the end of the day.

❖CHURCH CHOIR – Every Wednesday and Saturday, the choir takes time to rehearse under the baton of Mary Ann Llamedo. Aside from the adults, children and the youth are being trained cantors. The Sunday worship is made more alive because of their lead in singing praises to God. Please don’t hesitate to share your talent. Come and join the choir and their practices on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Also ass isting in the rehears-als and instrumentation are Sr. Clemence Mira, Audrey Peralta, Connie de Santos and the Llamedo Band.

❖PARKING ATTENDANTS – Before and after Masses and during funerals and occasional functions they are directing traffic and the proper posi-tioning of vehicles in our limited parking lot. They are happy to serve but it is not always easy especially when some would not heed their directions. Let us show our grateful appreciation for their patient and kind services by respectfully cooperating with them in keeping smooth flow of traffic and parking in the church grounds. Mark Correia is the Hospitality Ministry coordinator. ***Our parish is always welcoming and open to any parishioner who wants to volunteer in the councils, committees, ministries, organizations, clubs, prayer groups and donor societies and share your God-given talents and gifts to keep our Church going. You may submit your name at the parish office or contact our pastor. God bless and reward you abundantly.

*TO ALL THE GOOD STEWARDS, OUR SINCERE THANK YOU!*

PRAYER FOR GOOD STEWARDSHIP

Christ Our Lord, risen Lord, light of the world, to you

be all praise and glory!

Shine your light on us this Easter season so that we

may reflect brilliantly the glory of your resurrection.

Make us a blessing for those who suffer, live in fear or

who are overwhelmed by life.

And let the Spirit fill our hearts with your loving pre-

sence so that we may become good stewards of your

Gospel out of love for you who, for our sakes, lived,

died and rose from the dead; you who live and reign

with your Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one

God, for ever and ever.

AMEN

NOVENA TO PERPETUAL HELP The novena prayers to Our Mother of Perpetual Help is held every Thurs-day at 7:00pm in the Church. This is followed by the praying of the holy rosary. Come to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. Many prayers for various needs have been granted by her intercession thru this popular devo-tion. She will also guide us in living a meaningful and genuine Christian life. Come as a family and be blessed.
