DEMENTIA THROUGH THE AGES
with Anita Zemba-Schadt
Most of us have known someone in our family or circle of friends
who has suffered from demen5a that affected memory, person-
ality or reasoning. Friday’s speaker, Anita Zemba-Schadt, will help
us understand the stages of demen5a and its associated diseas-
es: Parkinsons, Alzheimers, Lewy Body, Hun5ngton’s and Fronto-
temporal.
Together with Heather DeVore, who is the director of Lighthouse
at Silvis, Anita will drama5ze and explain the behaviors that occur during the Beginning
Stages, Middle Stages, End Stages and Final Stages of these terrible diseases.
Anita is the execu5ve secretary of the Rotary Club of Davenport – a part-5me posi5on –
and has a business, “Concierge Care,” that guides family members and caregivers through
the decisions that they must make and the emo5ons they will experience as they cope with
effects of memory loss of their loved ones. The concern is not just for those who are afflict-
ed, but for the well being of the family and caregivers themselves.
Join us this Friday for our last mee5ng before Labor Day and learn about this important

topic – one which one day may affect us all! – Bill Tubbs
Merle Anderson with Rotary Interna$onal President Elect
2018-19 Sam Owori
I have attached a photo taken ten months ago, when I was in Uganda. This photo was taken by my friend, George Ntibarikure, while we were visiting Sam Owori in his Kampala office.
PDG Bill Tubbs informed me that Sam has been nominated to be President of Rotary International in 2018-19. Sam will be ex-tremely busy over the next 4-5 years while traveling around the world. Sam will be the second Rotary International President from Africa in Rotary's 112-year history. Sam is an excellent choice and we wish him the very best.
Members at the Rotary Night at the Ball Park. Gary Loss, President Davenport Rotary. North Scott Rotary Members: Bill Tubbs, Mary Lou Anderson, Dick Cole, and Mere Anderson

LAST WEEK – August 19 – Patrick Olsen; Life Care Planning
Pat Olsen was the speaker on Friday and highlighted some important facts that families which include a special needs person, really need to be aware of. Pat and his father, Don Olsen are experts in helping fami-lies plan for long term help for a special needs family member. Just because the family may currently receive money to help care for the family member, doesn’t mean that it will continue after the parent caregiver is gone. Transportation is a huge worry, along with proper housing and management of income, social security or Medicaid. The Olsen’s can be contacted at Olsen Financial in Davenport, if anyone desires their advice or services.
Fifty seven attended on Friday. Jan Touney was the winner of the August 50/50 raffle drawing. She won $106 and was extremely excited! Dr. Brad Burt was the sergeant of arms and collected $38 in fines. Seth Porter purchased a Lancer coupon card, for $25, donated by Tom Wilkerson. Paul Holzworth was happy to announce that his granddaughter is able to resume her college studies on the East Coast after her tragic stroke in May. Rich Golinghorst said that Gene Meyer is now at Courtyard Es-tates in Walcott for rehab on his hip. Guests on Friday were Robin Rollins, guest of Jim Koehler and Brian Crowley, guest of Rev. Rich Pokora. Past president, Glen Keppy, welcomed Josie Seymour into membership.
The 4 Way Test Of the things we THINK SAY or DO
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
