• Currently there are over 40 local POOTY awards held annually in NSW

• Our aim was to increase the recognition of these awards and the brand of Rotary and membership opportunities on a State basis

• All local winners would automatically be nominated for a Gala State event to be held in Sydney

• For areas without a Local Rotary award the

local Police Commander could nominate officers

The awards cover six (6) categories

The two (2) main categories - the overall winner is chosen

• Field Operations & • Specialist Operations

Plus• Volunteer of the Year• Police Employee of the Year• Community Award• Customer Service Excellence Award

The last award is nominated by the general public

All nominations are online through a secure server with over 400 nominations received last year

AWARDS & PROCEDURES

• All nominations are reviewed by a selection panel of PDG’s and PP’s from multiple districts

• No Police Officers are involved in the selection process but an officer is assigned for answering technical questions generated from the nomination

• Using the our main criteria of ‘Service above Self’ three finalists are chosen for each category

• From these the winner of each category will be chosen on a 1-2-3 points system used by the panel

PROMOTION & BRANDING

• Sent to all DG’s for distribution to clubs

• Appears in Police monthly

• Appears in the Rotary Down Under magazine

• Our sponsors use it on their Facebook pages

• Distributed to all City & Regional newspapers

• Started in 2010 with 250 guests, last year over 440• Each year a PHF is awarded to a Police Officer who

has shown themselves to hold the values of Rotary• Rotary funds the whole event through Sponsorship

which allows us to subsidise ticket prices• Exposes the Rotary brand to all Officers & Sponsors• Auctions have raised over $95,000 over the four years

with monies distributed to NSW Police Legacy and the Rotary Foundation on behalf of each District in NSW

• Our aim is to take it National and have an Australian Police Officer of the Year Award
