13 DETAILS OF VOCATIONAL DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES School of Continuing Education design and develop Vocational Education Programmes in TNOU. For all the Vocational Education Programmes, the Life Coping Skills and Communication Skills have been included to help the students to understand the meaning of life and to understand the meaning of relationship and how we communicate in every day life. Each student is required to attend a minimum of 75 percent counselling (theory) and practical sessions given in each programme. (Counselling 1session = 1 hour practical: 1 session = 2 hours). (i) Life Coping Skills : The main objectives of the Life Coping skills is to understand the meaning of life and its challenges, provide skills and knowledge needed to cope with life’s problems and challenges, develop a positive attitude, train to be successful and useful citizens through positive thinking, cope with criticism, failure, anger, loneliness, physical and verbal abuse, improve self- esteem, manage time and stress, develop one’s personality to its full potential, help the students to become team players, develop personal skills and to provide skill of problem solving and decision making. This course (LCS – 1) is a compulsory course for all the Diploma Programmes. (ii) Communication Skills: The main objectives of the Communication Skills is to introduce to the students the process and kinds of communication, train the students to code and decode communication effectively, explain the various interpersonal skills required to interact with others and make the students understand the meaning of relationship and how we communicate in every day life. This course (CNS – 1) is a compulsory course for Diploma Programmes except (DECE)Diploma in Early Childhood care and Education (Kindergarten),Diploma in Accupuncture Science and Diploma in Apparel and Fashion Design programmes. DIPLOMA IN FOUR WHEELER MECHANISM (525) The Diploma Programme in Four Wheeler Mechanism has been designed keeping in mind the unem- ployment problems in various levels. In this Programme, Automobile vehicle parts, construction and functions are explained well and also the servicing guidelines. After completing the Diploma in Four Wheeler Mechanism Programme, the students have employment opportunities as Service Station Mechanic, Brake Mechanic, Steering and Suspension Mechanic, Engine Mechanic, Transmission Me- chanic, Auto Electrician and Motor Vehicle Testers.
