Page 2PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE by Barbara Lukasiewicz, WLTBS President The MISSION of

Women’s League of TBSis to create a caring community of

women that celebrates and perpetuates Conservative/Masorti Judaism in their lives, homes and

synagogue. Through service, education, tzedakah

and observance, we reinforce our bonds with Jews locally, nationally, in

Israel and worldwide.

As 2013 is underway, Women’s League is busy planning a number of activities for the remaining four months of this fiscal year. Our women enjoyed wonderful events in February from a spectacular Torah Fund brunch to an informative tour of Zappos. Our Nominating Committeeunder the guidance of Chair, Blanche Meisel, has been working non-stop putting together a spectacular Women’s League Board for 2013-2014. I’m very impressed and proud of the job they are doing, although not surprised as WL women are second to none! This next Board is sure to have the tools and skills required to continue the positive growth this WL Board has made a high priority. As I become Counselor for next year’s Board as Immediate Past President of Women’s League of Temple Beth Sholom, I look forward to welcoming this new Board soon!

To reflect on the past two years of my Presidency, I cannot thank all of you enough for your support and enthusiasm of Women’s League. These two qualities have brought us many new members over the past 20 months, and because of you…our programs are well attended and respected. WL members appreciate the work done by our Board, Committees and Chairs to keep an active calendar. Our Special Interest Groups provide monthly programs which give ourwomen a better understanding of each other and the ability to deepen their friendships. International Convention gave our women the opportunity to meet “sisters” from all over the country including many from Canada. And this year’s TBS Board consists of more women on it than when I began and all are active members of Women’s League.

So when this Board completes its term, WL is well-positioned to move forward to meet the needs of our congregation and its women with the 2013-2014 Board. This is what every President hopes for and I want to ask each of you to set aside the morning of Wednesday, April 17th to attend our WL General Election/Program. A light breakfast will be served and it will be both an informative and enjoyable time for everyone. More information will follow as the meeting draws closer; don’t forget to RSVP when you receive the invitation the beginning of April. These milestones which mark time such as the annual General Election Meeting also bring a strong sense of stability to our organization. As seasons change and Boards change, one thing remains the same…Women’s League continues to be there for us as a source of friendship, strength and comfort. Women’s League is a very good thing!

I want to wish each of you and your families a sweet and meaningful Passover. As Spring draws closer may each of you be renewed as you continue to help make Women’s League the inviting and welcoming organization it is to so many. Invite your friends to join Women’s League and remember to give the gift of a Women’s League membership to your friends for their birthdays and special occasions. Women’s League truly is a gift which keeps on giving back. So do something good for yourself and others…participate in Women’s League…you’ll be glad you did and we are glad to have you involved! Together we make a positive difference for Women’s League and Temple Beth Sholom.

If you have not heard of Women of the Wall, here is some information about them that might be of interest. According to the law in Israel, "No religious ceremony shall be held in the women's section of the Western Wall." This includes holding or reading a Torah, blowing the shofar (ram’s horn) or wearing tallitot (prayer shawls). To find out more click here. “As Women of the Wall, our central mission is to achieve the social and legal recognition of our right, as women, to wear prayer shawls, pray, and read from the Torah collectively and out loud at the Western Wall.” To learn more, go to their website at http://womenofthewall.org.il/.
