Information
Some of the key features of the National Sport School are:
• D2L – access to course materials – anywhere -anytime! All course materials are downloadable
• Early dismissal Friday to accommodate training and competition
• Uses advanced distance technologies to support learning
• Teacher Advisors for each student-athlete
Some of the key features of the National Sport School are:
• A Sport Performance Consultant on staff• Weekly Sport Psychology work embedded in
Athlete Development program• A four period day with fixed-time classes• 2:50 end time –Allowing more contact with the
school and still accommodating after-school training schedules
Some of the key features of the National Sport School are:• Communication – being able to discuss and manage
personal workload• Full year course opportunities – Case study – Winter
athletes often select certain courses to be full year (September to June) to accommodate sport expectations
• Extending the number of years in high school –student-athlete may add another year of high school to “lighten the load” while planning their training and competition schedule.
Some of the key features of the National Sport School are:
• Older students will have spares if they have successfully completed the Grade 9 and 10 school subjects as organized by NSS.
• If an older student has access to spares; they may match their Calgary training schedule.
• Students that train at COP can access their teachers daily. (Stop by class for a few minutes, make appointments, or visit during tutorial blocks, etc.)

LUGE ATHLETE with an IPP – 84.5 schools days

• Attends NSS and trains with Luge Canada at WinSport• Student gets support from Resource Teacher and the subject teacher to meet all learning needs while training and competing

When Students are awayfrom school:
• Communicate regularly (at least twice a week) with all teachers (and peers – group work) via email

Canadian Sport Institute’s contributions include:

Athlete Development Program• CSI activity sessions are designed to provide
a strong physical literacy base and reduce the ‘gaps’ continually observed at the National Team levels (Junior & Senior) in Athletes’ physical abilities.
NSS Athlete Development• Active sessions with CSI aim to address
movement, general and more specific skill and physical development with an understanding of developmentally appropriate advancement and challenge.
NSS Athlete Development Program• The active programming pieces are not
designed or meant to replace or interfere with a student’s sport training program.
• Participation in these sessions does not focus on building capacity but focuses on technique and movement patterns e.g. not heavily weighted during lifting technique days.
