The Vinayaka Missions Sikkim University (VMSU) has acquired a uniqueplace in Sikkim in the spread of higher education. While the thrust onregular under-graduate and post-graduate study programmes has beenencouraging in terms of time bound semester planning, and also, allowingstudents to undergo industry internship, the innovative vocational modularprogrammes are likely to be introduced in 2015-16 session with a view toprovide more industry interface and gainful employment opportunities to itspass-outs.
Since the first batch of students was admitted in 2010-11 session in facultyof medicine to undergo GNM & B.Sc. (Nursing) programmes, one batch of students hasgraduated from the College of Nursing. Also, the first of batch of students was admitted in 2011-12 session to both the Govt. Gyalsing College (an affiliated College under the University) toundergo B.A. programme and the College of Arts & Science (a constituent College of theUniversity) to undergo BBA & BCA programmes, one batch of students has graduated from theCollege of Arts & Science so far. Besides, the College of Pharmacy has produced two batches ofD.Pharm. passed-outs in 2012 & 2013. The University has also produced one batch each ofB.Lib.I.Sc. and M.Lib.I.Sc. programmes under the College of Arts & Science.
The real strength of VMSU lies in its highly qualified, motivated and energetic faculty, sincereofficers and dedicated staff. The students are highly disciplined, well behaved, sincere and hardworking. The first batch graduates of 2014 got campus placements as well.
On demand from local people, the University launched the Ph.D. programme in 2014-15 sessionfollowing UGC guidelines. The university is poised to impart higher education in association withthe HRDD, Govt. of Sikkim in relevant fields to provide trained manpower for the overalldevelopment of the state.

PROSPECTUS
1. ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
The Vinayaka Missions Sikkim University (VMSU) wasestablished in the year 2008 by an ACT (No. 11 of 2008)of State Assembly passed by the Government of Sikkim.
The Vision of the University is to ensure “ excellence inhigher education “. The Motto of the University lies inits ” Vision, Knowledge and Wisdom ”.
The TKVTSS Medical Educational & Charitable Trust asits sponsor aims at providing quality education in thefields of sciences, humanities & social sciences, medical,dental, paramedical, engineering and management,architecture, etc by establishing appropriateinfrastructure suitable to the spread of higher education
(HE), vocational education & training (VET), andindustry specific employment oriented programmes forthe development of trained manpower at various levelsenabling overall growth of Sikkim ,and also, help India inestablishing global linkages as supplier of trainedhuman resources across the world.

4.1 ADMISSION ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Regular UG Programmes (Existing)
For 3½ year G.N.M., pass in 10+2 orequivalent with 40% marks in total besides (a)age between 17-27 year as on 01.01.2015(1st
Jan of year of admission); (b) 5% relaxation inmarks for SC/ST student; (c) medical fitness ofstudent.
Open School (Healthcare) pass-outs and10+2 Vocational pass-outs are not allowedfor admission to GNM unless the WBNCaccords approval.
For 4 year B.Sc. (Nursing), pass in 10+2 withscience (Physics, Chemistry & Biology) and
English with 45% marks in aggregate is eligible.Open School passed out students are notallowed. Relaxation in marks is allowed to SC/STstudents as per INC norms.
For 1 year Certificate Course, the eligibility isClass 10 pass-out.
For 2 year D.Pharm. Programme, p.ass in10+2 (Physics, Chemistry & Biology/Mathematics) is eligible.
NOTE: For admission in Nursing, students have to enroll for Registration & Admission Test.

5. CENTRE FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION
& RESEARCH (CCER)
The Centre for Continuing Education and Research(CCER) was established by the University to meet thespecific objectives to cater to industry specific coursesin association with relevant industries to help in-servicepersonnel in skills enhancement besides allowingpotential candidates to pursue inter-disciplinary andfield oriented courses fulfilling the educational needs ofemployees working in private and Govt. sectors, NGO’s,and also, in local communities. The Centre has expertiseto provide both the short-term training programmes atvarious levels and the focused Doctoral levelprogrammes for interested people working in various
inter-disciplinary fields / sectors of social,organizational, business and industrial development.Several innovative area (s) where industry demands fortrained manpower such as plumbing, industrialautomation, public health and sanitation, plant O&M,ship-building & repair, IT & Logistics, etc are beingidentified; and the Certificate programmes conductedas and when there is demand from industry These arevalue added courses for job competency developmentand gainful employment prospect. The Ph.D.programmes are offered in disciplines like Arts, Science,Commerce, IT & Management.
5.1 ADMISSION ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
For admission to Ph.D., a willing candidate withthe Post Graduate Degree (with 55%) inrelevant field(s) may apply in the prescribedApplication Form available with the Dean(Academic) with the Synopsis of his Ph.D. work,and must pass the written Aptitude Testfollowed by personal Interview.
For the short duration courses / programmes ona specific topic, the candidate’s background(qualification & experience) is judged based onhis/her present skills for skills enhancementeducation and training.
6. CENTRE FOR INNOVATION & EXCELLENCE (CIE)
Based on the vision of Hon’ble Chairman, VMSU andhaving visualized the growing needs for introducinginnovation in teaching-learning process, research &development, technological advancements, etc, theCentre for Innovation and Excellence (CIE) wasestablished in 2010 to conduct vocational skills andmodular employable education and training, facultyand support staff development programmes, outreachprogrammes, community development programmes,training of trainers (ToT), etc to provide industryinterface to both the teachers and the students with thesole objective that the passing graduates shall be jobready. The thrust areas under the Centre for Innovationand Excellence covers four major divisions: technologydemonstration division, innovative course designdivision, research division, and collaborativeprogramme division. Under these sectors, theUniversity has already made considerable progress in
conducting Training Need Analysis (TNA),Instructor/Faculty Up-gradation (FDP), Technical andVocational Education and Training (TVET), FieldOutreach Programmes (FOP) for field level professionalsor field personnel.
The strength of Vinayaka Missions Sikkim University(VMSU) also lies in its two Centres: the Centre forContinuing Education & Research (CCER) and the Centrefor Innovation and Excellence (CIE). The two Centreshave been continuously striving to identify suchindustry specific specialized course(s) / programme(s)which can provide opportunity to field professionals forattending short duration studies and capsuleprogramme (s) jointly offered by senior faculty, subjectexperts and field experts in association with theInstitution of Public Health Engineers (India), CII, Govt.of Union Territory, Corporate Sector, Engineering

Colleges & Polytechnics, etc. drawn from variouslocations like Kolkata, Gangtok, Chennai, Pondicherry &Ranchi.
7. ACADEMIC STRUCTURE
7.1 ADMISSION PROCESS
An applicant for admission to a programmemust apply in the prescribed Application Formfollowing the Advertisement in the newspapersto the Academic Counselor of the Universitywithin the deadline.
The application for admission to theprogramme will be verified by the AcademicCounselor followed by the concerned CollegePrincipal and Dean (Academic).
The selection for admission will be done inorder of merit based on the success in the
Admission / Entrance Test; and subject toverification of original certificates. There arecertain programmes in which admissioneligibility will depend on the pass percentagemarks of the qualifying examination / test.
For admission in any programme, the candidatemust have to submit the Transfer Certificate orMigration Certificate from the concernedSchool / Board / University.
A student seeking admission must be medicallyfit.
7.2 EXAMINATION BYE LAWS
The University proposes to follow the 10-pointGrading System of evaluation from 2015-16session. The University has already adoptedsemester system allowing the continuousmonitoring and evaluation of performance ofthe students which includes two internal mid-term and University level end semesterexaminations.
For appearing at the end semester (University)Examinations, a student has to qualify theinternal examinations with the class attendanceensured as per the College regulation.
The weightage given to the internal andUniversity end semester examinations is 20-25% and 80-75 % respectively.
8. LIBRARY
The University has Central Library consisting ofabout ten thousand books and journals/periodicals from different fields. The library has
sufficient study space with net facility. Thelibrary remains open during the office hours.
9. COMPUTER CENTRE & CENTRALCOMPUTING FACILITY (CCF)
The University has a Computer Centre as a centralcomputing facility (CCF) for the students, researchscholars and the teachers of the University.
The Centre has necessary infrastructure likesufficient number of Computer Hardware andSoftware, air-conditioned space and stabilized
uninterrupted back-up power supply as well astrained technical manpower.
The CCF houses an extensive Laboratory setupwhich caters to the academic requirements..

10. COUNSELLING AND PLACEMENT CELL
The Placement Cell of the University is headedby a senior teacher.
The University recorded more than 90%placement in 2014.
The companies which came for Campusplacement in 2014 included SBI Life, SouthIndian Bank, and Indusind Bank.
11. LABARATORY
11.1 Centres for Computing Facilities
The University has a Computer Centre as a centralcomputing facility for the students, scholars and theteachers of the University. The Centre has necessaryinfrastructure like sufficient number of ComputerHardware and Software, air-conditioned space andstabilized uninterrupted power supply as well as trainedtechnical manpower. The University has an extensiveLaboratory setup which caters to all the requirements ofthe syllabus.
