2014 Villanova Lacrosse Game Notes • Game 9 vs. Penn State

The 2013-14 season marks Mike Corrado'seighth year as the Head Coach at Villanova andhis 19th overall with the program. Corrado wasappointed head coach during the summer of2006 after being named the associate headcoach one year earlier.

The 2013, 2010 and 2009 BIG EAST and CAACoach of the Year has led the Wildcats tounprecedented success in recent seasons.During the past five years, Corrado has gar-nered a .603 overall winning percentage whileposting a .633 mark in conference contests. Hiscareer record currently stands at 59-48 follow-ing the conclusion of the 2013 campaign whileposting a 47-31 record over last five years.

In 2013, Corrado solidified the Wildcats placeamongst the nation's elite after earning the BIGEAST Regular Season Title and securing theNo. 1 overall seed for the BIG EASTTournament. Villanova advanced to the cham-pionship contest before falling to the eventualNCAA runner-up Syracuse, 13-9, in Villanova,Pa. and finished the year with a 7-8 record.Prior to the start of the BIG EASTChampionship tournament, Corrado earnedconference Coach of the Year accolades for thethird time in five seasons and was also chosento coach in the prestigious uSILA North/SouthAll-Star game, where he led the South squad toa convincing 16-10 victory over the North.

Corrado led the Wildcats to an 8-7 overallrecord in 2012 after playing the third toughestschedule in the nation, including games againstnine ranked opponents throughout the courseof the season. Villanova secured the No. 2 seedin the inaugural BIG EAST Championshipafter finishing the regular season with a 4-2conference record, but fell to No. 3 seededSyracuse in the semi-finals. The Wildcats wereranked well inside the top-20 for all 16 weeksof the regular season and were regarded as oneof the top teams in the nation.

2011 proved to be another historic seasonunder Corrado's direction. After guiding theteam to an 11-5 overall record and going 3-3 inthe highly-competitive BIG EAST Conference,Villanova earned their first-ever at-large berthto the 2011 NCAA postseason after successful-ly navigating one of the toughest regular-sea-son schedules in the nation. Traveling to theuniversity of Denver in what would be the firstNCAA tournament game to be played west ofthe Mississippi, the Wildcats narrowly fell tothe Pioneeres, 13-10, on Denver's home turf.Despite the loss, 2011 saw Villanova reachtheir highest ranking in program history at No.7 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse and uSILA pollswhile being ranked well inside the top-20 for14 weeks during the season.

In his time at Villanova, Corrado has served inseveral capacities including mentoring the

defense and serving as the recruiting coordina-tor. His expertise specifically lies with coordi-nating defensive efforts, and in 2003 and 2004,the Wildcats scoring defense ranked first andseventh in the nation, respectively. In 2005,Villanova improved to fourth in the country, allowing just 7.13 goals per game.

A former standout defenseman for theWildcats, Corrado is in his second stint atVillanova having also served as an assistantunder former Head Coach Randy Marks from1992-95. upon leaving Villanova, Corradotook a position at Conestoga High Schoolbefore accepting a head coaching position withthe Haverford High School varsity men'slacrosse team.
