AzMERIT FAQ

Why is there a new test? In 2010, The Arizona State Board of Education adopted new standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics. With the adoption of the new standards, a new assessment was necessary. What is AzMERIT? In November 2014, the Arizona State Board of Education adopted the new statewide achievement test Arizona’s Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching (AzMERIT), which will replace the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) test, except for the science component. Arizona part-nered with the American Institutes for Research (AIR) to develop the test. Who will take AzMERIT? Students in 3rd grade through high school will take AzMERIT. Students in 3rd through 8th grade will take an assessment in English Language Arts and Mathematics. AIMS Science will continue to be administered to students in the 4th and 8th grades. When will the test be given? The testing window for students taking the computer-based AzMERIT assessment is March 30th-May 6th. The testing window for students taking the paper-based assessment is April 13th-24th. At Villa, all students will take the AzMERIT paper-based assessment; testing will start on Tuesday April 14th and end April 16th. AIMS Science will be paper-based and will be administered on April 17th for all students in 4th and 8th grades. Will the scores on AzMERIT be the same as AIMS? While AIMS had four score levels - Exceeds, Meets, Approaches and Falls Far Below, it is still undeter-mined how many score levels AzMERIT will have and what they will be called.

Parent Education Night on AzMERIT Villa will be hosting a parent education night to give parents more information on the new state assessment AzMERIT! The clinic “Transitioning to the AZ Merit Test- What Parents Need to Know” will be presented by Villa parent and clinical Psychologist, Trisha Lavigne. This informational session will take place April 9 from 6-7pm in room #207 on the Elementary Campus. An Evite was emailed out Monday March 30th to all parents with children in grades 3-8th; please look for that invitation in your inbox and let us know if you plan on attending. You can see the invitation by following this link: http://www.evite.com/event/03C9KUC7YF46DMJWWEPE24JEBQVOJQ We hope to see you there!

Throughout the month of March, Elemen-tary students have been gathering dona-tions and working on their jumping skills through the Jump for Heart program to benefit the American Heart Association. During P.E. time, students have been prac-ticing jump-roping techniques, including single and group jump, double-dutch, long jump, and also classic games such as “Miss Mary Mack” and “Ice Cream Soda”. Just this week, the students honed their long jump skills on the field, and worked hard on getting their jump-roping hours in before the end of the month. Some stu-dents jumped as far as 11 feet! Their sup-port of each other, and of the charity, was an uplifting sight to see. Check out the awesome picture below of a student practicing the long jump.

The Villa Wall of Wine

Donate a bottle of wine to the auction dinner and earn valuable volunteer hours. The

higher the value of wine donated, the more volunteer hours earned.

Wine Donation Volunteer Hours Chart – One hour = $20 value

$10 wine bottle = ½ volunteer credit hour

$20 wine bottle = 1 volunteer credit hour

$40 wine bottle = 2 volunteer credit hours

$60 wine bottle = 3 volunteer credit hours

$80 wine bottle = 4 volunteer credit hours

$100 wine bottle = 5 volunteer credit hours

$200 wine bottle =10 volunteer credit hours

There will be a wine wall near the entrance of the auction that will display all the wine

donations received. The wine will range from as little as $10 a bottle to over $100.00 a

bottle. All donated wine will be cleverly disguised in unique packaging. For a $20 dona-

tion, pick your favorite mystery package and then reveal your wine selection. There are

NO losers! You will likely be the winner of a much higher valued bottle of wine than

your donation. Whether you’re a casual drinker or a wine connoisseur, this is one wine

sampling not to miss.

Please deliver all wine to the Administration Office, Early Childhood Office or either

Middle School Offices. Please bring your receipts if possible and put your name on it so

we know whose family gets the credit for hours.

Volunteer hours will be assessed based on the average wine price displayed at wine-

searcher.com. Proof of price with receipt will also be accepted. All wine donations must

be turned in to Villa by Tuesday, April 21st.

P.S. YOU CANNOT DRINK THE WINE AT THE EVENT! IT MUST STAY CORKED!

Thank you,

My name is Barry Shalen. I’m a plaintiff’s personal injury attorney with over 20 years of experience. I can

help you with your property damage claim as well as finding the appropriate medical care (on a lien if neces-

sary, which means the provider will wait to get paid from your settlement).

There is no risk to you as we only get paid if there is a settlement, when there is a settlement, and from the

actual settlement. As such, you will never reach into your pocket to pay us.

I’m also a Villa Dad so mention Villa and, if we can settle the claim without litigation, I will reduce my fee

to whatever extent is necessary that it does not exceed your in-pocket net recovery after payment of fees,

bills, and costs.

If you, a loved one, or a friend, are ever unfortunate enough to be injured through the fault of another,

please contact me at 602-494-4800 or [email protected] for a free consultation.
