Message from Mr. Jones

Dear Broadmeadows Valley Primary School,

2013 was a tremendous year for our learning community. It was a year that saw unprecedented growth in both student numbers and student learning outcomes.

As I’m sure you’re all aware, BVPS is fast becoming renowned as a school of choice within the Northern suburbs of Melbourne. As Broadmeadows itself continues to become better established and develop in aspiration and achievement, our school will be there - leading the way for future generations.

As you browse the pages of this terrific publication the BVPS quality is clear for all to see.

I would like to thank all BVPS community members for their wonderful contribution in 2013 and as we prepare for an even stronger 2014, I would like to wish you all a very happy and safe upcoming festive season.

Warm regards,

Andrew Jones

In Term 1 we participated in learning experiences to discover how brains work. We drew what we thought a sheep’s brain looked like and even got to touch one. We made paper mache brains! We painted the brain parts in different colours. In Term 2, we had lots of fun activities like our cooking activity when we had to make either a type of juice, sweet or sandwich in maths and sold them to make money. We also had the PST’s come and teach us in most of the learning blocks. In Enrichment we were learning about the Earth and how to help it. We got to choose if we wanted to learn how to help save energy, help clean water, reduce rubbish and biodiversity. In Term 3, we introduced Marty to LN2 as Krystina took a break (in more ways than one) whilst recovering from her injury! Our library was getting set up and book bags were getting introduced to LN2. 3/4S sang BVPS Style at assembly. We finished our action research projects on Sustainability and had an expo for the whole school. Lucas from CSIRO came to show us space, planets, constellations and other interesting information about space in the Starlab. An exciting expedition was to Hume Central Secondary College to watch their production of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. It was amazing to see and hear the talented students, including some of our own siblings and former students. It was a sad end to Term 3as we said farewell to Troy, our leader. In Term 4, some students went to camp at Phillip Island. We were also been preparing for the Dimboola Road Festival. Mitti has shown a great improvement by coming 7th in shot put at the School Sport National Competition. In LN2, some Year 3/4s got a trust pass which means you can be trusted to work alone in any area of the LN and to use a laptop. LN2 are using the five rules: Rule 1- Follow directions quickly. Rule 2 - Raise your hand for permission to speak. Rule 3 - Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat. Rule 4 - Make smart choices. Rule 5 -Keep your dear teacher happy. This helps us to make the most of our learning time. 2013 in LN2 was a fantastic year.

We had a very busy and fun year of learning. We did so many things. We had an excursion to CERES, we went to the snow, we visited the Hume Global Learning Centre a number of times, some of us went swimming, we had Play Based Learning in Prep and a school Sleepover in Grade 2. Below are some of these highlights in more detail. One Friday in winter, all of LN1 went to the snow. On the bus we watched the Lion King. When we got there it was very cold! We had our snack and then we played in the snow and we went on the taboggans. They went really fast and it was amazing fun. We all played together and we got cold and wet. The snow was white, freezing, soft and slippery. Lots of us fell over. It was the best day ever! We went to LN2 for the Grade 2 Sleepover we got to make salad and pizza and it was fun. We got salad because it is healthy. After preparing dinner we went outside to play, we brought out a football and some of us played kick to kick. After playing outside we came in and had our delicious homemade pizza and salad for dinner. Next we watched Despicable Me 2 and we had popcorn, chocolate and we had cake! In the morning we got changed and brushed our teeth, put our stuff in our bags and waited for our Mums and Dads. Sixty five special children in LN1 were very lucky to go swimming this year. They learnt how to kick their legs slow and fast. Some people were a little bit scared but they got used to it. One group went in the deep water and they were really scared. At the end of most lessons they were allowed to swim by themselves. At school we have Art. Sometimes we paint, colour and we make some things. In Music and Performing Arts we play lots of fun games, we sing new songs and we dance. At P.E. we did high jump, running, football, throwing and we play sport games. What a busy and wonderful year!

On Friday the 8th of November we went to the Aquarium by train. At the Aquarium we saw sharks, sting rays and lots of sea animals. The first station I went to is where the little fish live. The little fish were so cute. After we saw the little fish we went in a tunnel. The tunnel was so cool. We had to put our heads in a hole to see the fish more closely. After that we went to the big and small fish station. My favourite fish were the sea horses. I love the seahorses because when I was four I never thought there would be horses that live in the sea. I also loved when we saw the penguins. We had so much fun at the aquarium that I want to go again. Maybe I will. I hope we have another excursion!

During Literacy and Numeracy week we had lots of fun. In Literacy we made finger puppets. Parents were welcome to come in and share our learning. We got a piece of material and we drew our character on the piece of fabric. We got other pieces of fabric to draw the eyes and other features. In Numeracy, LN1 made 3D objects out of match sticks and chick peas. LN2 made paper bridges with 2 pieces of paper then they got the challenge to see how much weight it could hold. LN3 had a fabulous time building 3D models from newspaper. We all had lots of FUN!!!!

One cold morning, my family and I woke up in a clean, beautiful palace. I had lived in this palace since I was born. I was eight years old. My sister Juanessa was twelve years old and my other sisters Tui and Victoria were two and three. The next night it was really dark. In the middle of the night at ten o’clock I woke up. I found out that my family was still up because they heard something coming from the kitchen. It was a really scary noise. My dad said, “Wait here. I am going to check what’s going on in there.” “Be careful,” I said. So my dad went in… “AAAHHHH help me’’ he screamed, “It’s going to eat me alive!”. Me and my family were all worried. We were wor-ried about what could have eaten him. We were lucky we all had a magic ring on each of our fingers, and we had great strong karate lessons to destroy strong animals. When we saw the animal it was very big. We tried using our magic rings but they did not work! So I took two punches but it just made him angrier. So all we had to do was run as fast as we could inside the palace. We went into the emergency room to hide. We thought the monster could not see it, but when he did, we panicked. The emergency room got attacked by the monster. “RUN,” my mum said, “run as fast as you can!” We finally found a hiding spot, behind our secret wall. The secret wall flipped us over to the other side. “We are saved!” I said. “SHH! He might find us.” whispered mum. He did not. We have been planning how to trap the monster inside a cage. We set it all up when the monster was in the kitchen sleeping. The monster woke up and smelt some yummy cookies. My family and I were all hiding. The monster opened the door and tripped over the tripwire and was trapped in the cage. But he still got to have cookies, then Tui said, “No cookie for you!” and she walked away with the cookies eating them, “bad monster” she said!” We found a zipper on his back so we took off the suit and there we saw… DAD! I shouted, “You tricked us,”. We were all shocked. You tricked us into believing that a real monster ate you!” “I am sorry” he said “I put a sound effect box in the kitchen. Then I shouted, help me! And came out scaring you and destroying the palace.”. “Well you scared us”, I said, “but it’s ok!”

The Environmental Team is a well put together group of students from LN3 and LN2. We work together to find ways to make our school more sustainable and clean. Some of the projects the Environmental Leaders have been work ing on th is year are: We have been promoting kids to help pick up rubbish and keep

our school clean. During ENVIRO Week we held a poster competition and

encouraged students to learn more about the environment. The Environmentalists went on a trip to a very sustainable

school to learn their ways of wisdom with energy saving.

The Turtack by Christopher Dangerfield One day a man named Jeffery was strolling the streets of India. When he was walking he was suddenly pushed into a vat of toxic waste, then he saw a turtle and then mutated with it. After that he ran back to an alley. Coughing and choking to death he suddenly and without warning breathed fire. Also, one of his arms corroded away and feeling the pain he shouted "Why cruel world, Why?"

He ran back to his hotel and started engineering a particle cannon that has fire particles in it already. He made a mask to cover up his deformity. Also part of his body was corroded so he designed a robotic replacement. After then the turtle mutation kicked in. It made the rest of his body part turtle, even his particle cannon looked like part of a turtle’s arm but with no hand. He made himself part awesome. He found some dying stray turtles and he turned them into death machines. One day an idea befell him and he decided to fight crime.

With his old age he needed someone else to be a turtle man so he kept fighting crime till he was about to die. So some day you might be the turtle man.

Worms like to eat food scraps to make soil. Some worms have amazing appetites too. They also eat bread, leaves and papers. Worms give people soil to put in peoples’ gardens. Worms spend their time in moist places. Worms have a saddle so the big worm can lay eggs. They can dig their way through the dirt.

On Tuesday we read a book. It was called The Rainbow Fish. The Rainbow Fish was colourful. Next we made sea creature finger puppets. Next we waited to get our puppets glued. After that we drew our puppet. Then we put it in a box of sand.

One lovely day Carly woke up and shouted “It’s my birthday!” The house woke up. Carly’s mum shouted “Be quiet Carly, I’m trying to sleep!” One hour later it was time for Carly to open her presents but first she had to go somewhere with her mum. Carly walked in the pet shop door and asked confused “Why are we at the pet shop?” “Choose any pet you want” said Carly’s mum. About five minutes later Carly chose a dog. “This one” she said “I want this one.” It was a scruffy dog with blonde fur. They bought him. Carly chose a name for him. “Sparky” she said. When they got home Carly was playing with her new dog Sparky in the pool. She saw something yellow under the water. It looked round like a person could fit in it “I’ll go see what that is” Carly said to herself. She went under the water. Something was happening “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” screamed Carly. Sparky was clinging on to Carly so hard she had scratches all over her. Carly and Sparky had fallen through a portal. They landed on the ground buried in dirt. “Where are we?” cried Carly. “I’m so hot, it’s so humid.” Sparky was exhausted he didn’t know what was going on. They got hungry so they went to hunt. They found an old man, he helped them out. Carly had asked him how old he is. “146 years old” he replied. The next day Carly was very hungry and very thirsty. She said to the old man “if we stay like this we will die.” An hour later when Carly got back from hunting, she went to talk to the old man but there was no answer. She went to see what was going on. She found the old man lying on the floor not breathing. She started to cry “What am I going to do now?” she sobbed. After many hours of searching, finally she found the portal. She could not believe it. “Come on Sparky lets go” Carly said gleefully. They got back to the house. Suddenly she heard a shout “Carly it’s time for dinner” “It’s only mum” she said to Sparky. “Let’s go and eat our dinner!”

LN1 went to CERES and had a fun day. We tasted honey and learnt facts about bees. Then we dressed up like bees. We talked about vegetables and saw the fruit. Next we were digging for mini beasts in the garden and we used a chart to locate the bugs we found. We also caught bugs from the pond with a net. We touched some worms and we fed them compost. We had to have wet hands so the worms could stay moist. It was such a fun day and we all learnt a lot!

LN3 CERES excursion by Tony Lang and Suleebaan Jama

In Term 2, Learning Neighbourhood 3 went on a trip to CERES environmental park. The three home groups were split into different groups to do different activities. The first activity was called the 2030 trail. You were instructed to make decisions which would affect the future. Two major groups were population and resources. By making these decisions, you could end up with an environment friendly world, whereas a few different decisions would create a completely different one. The second activity was about packaging. It showed us exactly how much packaging we actually use, how far food has to travel and what packaging is more environmentally safe.

ISSUE 3

LN1 CERES excursion by Joanne Assad, Issiah Nikki and Sierra Sanders

The third activity was about electronics and how it impacts the world. Making batteries in many countries actually pollute the world a lot! Whereas, other countries such as Japan create very little pollution. The most crucial point in this presenta-tion, was finding out that people die to make electronics. Children are forced to fight for electronics to have enough money for a miniature meal. Nintendo harms the environment a lot when producing electronics, whereas Nokia barely harms it. We learnt so much on this marvellous excursion. It encouraged us to be more eco-friendly. We hope CERES will be able to encourage the lifestyle of more young children.

In term 2, LN2 went to Ceres for an educational excursion. When we left school and were in the bus people were singing and talking really loud and when we got there people were really excited. Each home group did one activity before we had recess. After recess we did the rest of our activities, the activities were different types of power, paper making, house of power and Renewable Energy. In paper making we had to use old paper to make a new piece of paper. In the house of power there was lots of small activities and there was an activity about different types of glass and heaps more. We learnt about all three types of renewable energy. These are Solar, Hydro and wind power.

Whilst the scarlet fog was descending above the pine trees, Charlie awoke to the sound of his phone ringing; RING RING, RING RIN-Charlie picked up the phone and answered: “Hello?” The stranger answered: “Hi, what are you doing?” Charlie replied: “Who are you?” The stranger answered: “Your friend, Harris.” Charlie replied: “Hi Harris, what’s up, what do you want to do?” Harris answered: “Listen Charlie, the whole mafia is going to rob the local Big W store. I want you to be here as fast as possible.” Charlie replied: “I’m on my way!” *Dial Tone*

Charlie swiftly jumped out of bed and landed steadily with one foot, after that, he sprinted to his wardrobe and took out his clothes; he quickly put them on and ran to the bathroom to do his grooming. After he had completed his grooming, he ran out the door and turned on his bright green car and waited a couple minutes for the engine to warm up; he swiftly settled into his car and started speeding to the local Big W store in a rush to rob the store with the mafia.

Suddenly, Charlie received a phone call from Harris while he was just about half way to Big W. Harris exclaimed: “Hey Charlie, where are you? Come here quickly!” Charlie replied: “I’m on my way! I’m just a couple minutes away.” *Dial Tone* Charlie continued driving to Big W.

When Charlie arrived at Big W, he saw the mafia that consisted of three people: Ali, Harris and Joel. Ali got the C4’s ready, “Four C4’s coming right up!” Ali exclaimed. Everybody began crawling to a safe position whilst Ali was planting the C4’s in every vulnerable position to steal the nappies for the mafia;; as they were running low on the supply of nappies. Ali yelled: “Three, two, one, BOOM!!” The siren went off as everybody in the mafia sprinted to the nappy supply and started storing them in their bags. Suddenly, the policemen showed up; equipped with batons, handcuffs and pepper-sprays, the mafia knew they were in big trouble; they started making a run for it, however they were easily caught by the policemen. After all, they were babies.

Charlie, Harris, Ali and Joel walked out of the store, guilty and with handcuffs on their hands whilst the ashes of the C4 explosion were ascending within their wake. It was a long drive to the Central Las Vegas Jail but after they had arrived there. They were locked up for years and years.

My photo album by Elisha Simeone

My photo album is precious to me because it has adorable pictures of my family and friends. The first picture I'm going to talk about is one of my lovely cousin Noah and myself. I love this photo because it reminds me when my cousin was a bouncing baby. This picture was taken at my cousin’s house. Noah started crying and he dropped his bottle on the floor, the milk spilt every-where. Oh no he dropped it again! Everyone started laughing and said "You naughty boy." The next picture I'm going to talk about is one of my brother Carlos and I. We were going to my cousin's Alexia and Natasha's Deb Ball. They looked amazing, with sparkly diamantes on their beautiful white, flowing chiffon dresses. Their hair was in a very fancy bun with shiny clips all around and their shoes looked so high I had to put my chair up to give them a hug. There are wonderful memories in my photo album and I will treasure it forever.

National Young Leaders Day by Ali Almajidy and Suleebaan Jama

As we made our way to the Melbourne exhibition centre we went past many eye catching places. We arrived there were many Young Leaders ready and confident about the conference. The inspirational speakers talked about the responsibilities of being a Young Leader. We all learnt a lot and were so inspired after hearing the stories about responsibilities, values, respect, empathy and how they became successful leaders. After that we all took pieces of the information they told us and became who we are now. The BVPS Young Leaders. We all had a little notebook where we wrote about what we were watching and listening to. The speakers talked with confidence and they gave us very useful information on what a good leader does and what you can do to earn people’s respect. In the middle of the conference the dance crews came and danced extremely well. We played with big beach balls and everyone had a blast. Whilst we were having lunch and recess breaks we were socialising with the other young leaders. It was fun and cool to talk to people you hadn’t met but had the same responsibilities as you. When the conference was over we made the long trip back to school. On the way on the train we discussed what we had learnt. The Young Leader’s day conference had helped us a lot with our responsibilities. It had also given us advice on how to become better at our jobs.

In term 3 the BVPS rock-band “The Rock Heads” went to the School of Rock to represent our school and show other schools our musical talent. The three songs that we performed were Diamonds by Rihanna, I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift and Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes. Everyone was feeling nervous and happy when we first got there. We started the event with live music and people dancing all around the room then we had to go to our seats to watch the performances until it was our turn. We all took our turns on stage and performed our songs. When we finished everybody was pleased with their performances. After we were finished we spent the rest of our time watching other schools perform. When it was time to head back to school everyone was in a good mood and singing songs all the way until we arrived.

On Friday night the Grade 2’s had a sleepover at school. I felt very excited before I got back to school. It was Tziah’s birthday and we had chocolate cake with strawberries and we had chocolate or

banana ice cream. Then we had pizza and salad. We made homemade pizza during school that day and we also bought pizza. After that we got into our pyjamas and we watched Despicable Me 2 before we went to bed. I took ages to get to sleep. In the morning I was the second last to wake up, Aaron was last. I was very tired. We went to the kitchen and we had toast, Nutrigrain, Wheatbix and Corn Flakes, and then we played a game before going home. It was so much fun!

In term 2 LN2 went to the MSO(Melbourne Symphony Orchestra). The bus ride was one hour long. When we finally got there we took out our snacks out and started to eat. Everyone was so happy that we finally got off the bus. We then walked from the bus to the MSO. When we got inside we sat down and started to talk really loudly because we couldn’t hear each other. A lady who was the host came on stage and introduced the orchestra. Then a man came out on stage and taught us a dance and song. There were all sorts of instruments like brass, string, woodwinds and percus-sion. After the amazing performance we took the long bus ride back to school.

The day had finally arrived for a selection of students from BVPS to participate in two sports, Netball and Football. The two teams competed against 4 different schools in our district. We felt honoured to be the host of this extraordinary event. Our teams from BVPS tried their hardest to win but they knew that it wasn’t all about winning, it was about having fun. Many parents volunteered to help out on the day and it was great. When it all came to a finish everyone was so exhausted but ready to find out the results. As we all listened to the scores we were reminded about how much work the schools had to put in to make this day happen. All our teams did try their hardest but only one of our teams was victorious, which was our Netball team. Our Footballers were amazing and pushed themselves to the limit! Thank you to all people that helped make this day happen!

On the 24th of October 2013, B.V.P.S celebrated Bully Stoppers Day. The day was packed with educational plays, photography work, posters and videos which were all created for the purpose of encouraging behaviour to prevent bullying. All the work was displayed throughout all the neighbourhoods and homegroups moved around all the stations to look at the student creations. The day turned out to be a huge success. The plan for a long outdoor lunch did not work out as the weather was against us, so we decided to have our banquet throughout LN3. As we ate our lunch on our handmade bully stopper place mats there were plates of treats such as biscuits, avocado and cucumber dips and also some sliced vegetables. All the students at B.V.P.S now have a better understanding of bullying and the consequences of bullying. By Ayla Akyaz and Ashley Barden

Well, I’ve got to say when we first arrived at our destination I was impressed. The reason I was impressed was because it wasn’t how I would picture it. Our cabins were all the same and really nice. On the first night it was very hard for me to go to sleep because it was really, really stuffy in our cabin but somehow I fell asleep. My favourite activity at The Island was the mechanical wall climbing. I would say I would love to go again. I know I would never in my whole life say this but it was more awesome than me. The penguin parade was amazing. They were so cute when they waddled. We saw them when they were coming back to their homes and we also saw them up real close. I would have to say I would rate The Island 100 out of 100.

I am the female Vice Captain for 2013. My role as a Vice Captain is to set a good example to-wards others around me. Previously l have been an Environmental Leader but l got moved into a bigger role of being a Vice Captain. Being a Vice Captain takes a lot of responsibilities and not only will l be representing my school but l also have to make sure people around me are in a safe environment. I have to make sure that the welfare of my peers is safe and that they have no problems. There are a lot of responsibilities but if you have the right attitude, you can do anything. If you have a good attitude and are respected then you may have what it takes to be a school Vice Captain.

By Vongai Sithole

As the School Vice Captain I have not only improved my skills but the feelings of others. I have improved my confidence in front of large groups. I am now able to almost fluently speak. Of course I still have a few delays. I can now feel like I’ve impacted the world, by organising a fundraiser to support a good cause. By fundraising I help the lives of people less fortunate than myself. I haven’t only helped in the outer world but also in the school community. I’m a role model, influencing other people to be a great student. I can help the school to become a better place.

What it means to be a School Captain

What it means to be a School Vice Captain

FOR US BY US

Hello, my name is Hannah and I am the 2013 female School Captain. Being a School Captain means that I must be a good role model to everyone. I have to also set a good example and help people. Being School Captain is great and there are lots of responsibilities. You must do all of your roles and jobs. It means a lot and you help a lot of people. You must also follow all of the school values which are respect, honesty, co-operation and empathy so that others follow and respect them as well. If you have a bad reputation meaning you are known as the person who is mean, unkind and does not follow the rules, people will not respect or listen to you. If you take your job for granted then people will not look up to you or listen to you. Anyone can become a School Captain if they have the right attitude and show good examples of leadership. By Hannah Mamo.

The leadership role of School Captain means so much to me. As I have been growing up in Primary School I always looked up to the Young Leaders, but mostly the School Captains. I always wanted to become a school captain since Grade One. Finally the day came and I tried my best to get the leadership role and I got it. I was so proud and happy. Now this means so much to me because it’s something I always wanted. It feels good because sometimes it lets me make a positive change to the school. It is also a good experience being involved in organising fund raisers and stepping up and being responsible. Also, it makes me feel good when I help someone when they’re down or not having a good day. It is nice to show respect and empathy to people and let me impact them as a role model. By Ali Almajidy

What it means to be a Young Leader

Being a Young Leader to me is being a role model and having people looking up to me. Being a young leader gives me more opportunities in school. Young Leaders means a lot to me because last year I got in trouble a lot but now I have pulled up a lot. The best feeling for me is when people look up to me when I’m playing sports and think to themselves “hey I want to be like him one day”.

To be a Young Leader you have to show re-spect towards teachers and all students. Also to be a Young Leader you have to change your behaviour. I have to be a good role model towards all my peers and set a good example. Being a leader is helping others to be safe. Also to tell others to follow the school values which are Respect, Cooperation, Empathy and Honesty. To be a Young Leader I have to never give up in everything I do.

Being a Young Leader I have learnt to speak in front of a large group and I am more confident with myself. Throughout the year we have been raising money for causes like the State School Relief Fund. This year we did a day called the Fun Run where we spent the whole day doing activities such as high jump, shot-put, discus and long lump. I learnt how to be a role model and to be proud of who I am.

By Suleebaan Jama

To be a Young Leader means that I am a role model to the little kids. It means that I have a huge responsibility to do the right thing. What I love about being a Young Leader is being respected by your fellow school mates and being able to help people in our school. As a Young Leader you have to organise many events and commit to every meeting and assembly. The highlight of being in the Young Leaders is running the assemblies and being listened to when I am talking. I believe I have become more confident throughout the year and I love to have responsibilities. I think I have put 100 % into every meeting and I have tried my best to listen to everyone’s opinions and being respectful to everyone in BVPS. When I leave for high school I hope that me and the fellow Young Leaders have made a positive difference to the school and that I will be remembered as a respectful and honourable leader!

To me being a Young Leader is a BIG responsibility. We have to do lots of things for special events like the Good Friday Appeal and other things. We also get opportunities other students don’t get like we get to go to meetings and put together the school magazine. We have to make things like suggestion boxes and some other things depending on what there is going on around the school. We also get to do cool stuff like suggesting what the fund raiser for the term will be. By Jye Gibb

To be a House Captain is a very important job for everyone especially for me because since Grade 3 I wanted to be a House Captain for my school. When I got the role I was so happy because other people in Lichfield and in Grade 6 wanted the role that I have this year. The role of being a House Captain is leading your house and representing the school values. By Oktan Duran

To be a Young Leader means a whole lot for me. Being a Young Leader you need to show a lot of respect to everyone in the school. To me being a Young leader is to be confident when you’re talking in front of the whole school.

By Hannah Kenworthy

Being a Young Leader means being a good role model and making the school a better place. To be a Young Leader you have to have confidence in yourself and you have to listen to other student’s suggestions and not just give your ideas. By Ayla Akyaz

To me being a house captain is a huge responsibility. You get a chance to lead a house colour and help and support the people in that house. I also put in 100% towards my peers so the younger and older kids know that when they need help they can always count on their house captain. When I’m standing up at assembly showing the iFit results, I show pride toward my house and respect the people that were on time so they could get points for the house. By Nick Gioskos

To me being a Young Leader is fun, however being a Young Leader means you need to take a lot of responsibility. As a Young Leader for 2013 I find that I need to have a lot more confidence in myself and have a bigger voice around the school. I wanted to be a Young Leader because I feel that I have some skill towards it and it might help me with sharing my ideas around. I have always wanted to experience this because I wanted to have a better opportunity for myself. BeING a Young Leader means a lot, and means you have to make a lot of good choices not only for yourself but for your peers. If you make the right choices the younger students will follow on. At BVPS we are lucky enough to have our own fully equipped kitchen! Every morning students are able to use this area for Breakfast Club. It is a great way to make sure every one of us has a healthy breakfast before getting ready for learning. During Semester 2 we have used the kitchen as often as possible to cook lots of delicious food. We used it to make food for the cake stall and to explore Literacy and Numeracy concepts. Here are some of our favourite recipes that we have cooked this year...

Every year the BVPS Young Leaders organise and run four fundraising events. We raise money for causes which we believe to be important and worthwhile to support. In 2013 we had a crazy hair day, a cake stall, a casual dress day and an ice cream stall day. This year we raised money for: The Good Friday appeal The State School’s Relief Fund The Bungoma Hospital Project World Vision Australia We hope our contribution to these very important causes will make a small difference to the lives of people and communities who need it most. We will continue to support important causes like these very year. Thank you to all the students and families who made a contribution.
