file numbers. The clerking should be attached to this logbook.

The last day to accept the logbook is at the day of final written exam.

Letter to the Student

Dear, Student

Alsalam Alaykum:

Welcome to the Pediatrics-1 Module.

In this module you are going to use this logbook, which is intended to be a documentary to all your activities in the module. And to reflect the level of achievement of the learning objectives from your own point of view and from the tutor point of view. The logbook is structured in a way that all students will be assessed in an objectives manner.

In order to follow your work, this logbook must present with you during all module activities which must be proved by the tutor signature, and to be submitted weekly for the department’s follow-up and review.

How to use this logbook?

The logbook is divided into parts, in each part you are requested to fill the intended parts and to write the learning points that you have achieved from that activity and to be proved by your tutor, after that you have to reflect on the tutor assessment, your reflection here will be a plan on how to fill the gaps reflected by the tutor, this reflection will help you achieving the module objectives.

As this logbook is a documentary, you will be asked to provide an evidence (whenever it is applicable) for your activities, you give a umber for each evidence inside each division and to attach the evidence as an Annex in the evidence/s bindery at the end of this logbook. The evidence can be in a form of a copy of Patient’s file, a photo, etc.

The Clinical posting Includes:

1-Clinical bedside teaching:

Academic staff will teach on 2-3 clinical sessions every week. In each session, the students will be given about one hour to take the history and do the physical examination. The students will present at least two cases in the presence of the staff, who will teach students how to take proper history and perform physical examination.

To prepare for clinical rounds, students are expected to:

- Clerk at least two patients, and fully prepare them on clerking day.- Be prepared to present a case of a clerked patient during any teaching round.. - Participate in the discussion of the cases. The cases discussed should be looked up

in the recommended textbooks or any other appropriate references.

2- Hospital duties:

Each student will have hospital duties according to schedule, where he will work in collaboration with the intern/resident on call aiding them in performing their duties. The attendance will be checked by the resident signature in the attendance paper.


3- Clinical skills laboratory sessions:

These sessions will be conducted at the clinical skill unit. During these sessions, students acquire the clinical skills in history taking and physical examination, in order to decrease the burden on the patients during learning these skills.

- In the clinical skills lab, the symptoms and signs related to the body system(s) will be assigned to the students.

- Students will also learn and acquire skills to perform properly the physical examination.

- Attend and conduct some pediatric procedures.

Objective to be assessed in the logbook

The main objectives of the Pediatrics clinical courses are as follows:

The student should be able to:

1. Demonstrate the ability to take and report a full history.

2. Perform a complete physical examination.

3. Discuss cases at bedside teaching /clinical rounds to emphasize Patho-physiology of symptoms and signs.

4. Make use of laboratory and other investigatory aids to reach a final diagnosis

5. Outline the management of important and common disorders.

6. Attend certain pediatric procedures, such as L.P., biopsy taking, tuberculin testing, infusions and transfusion therapy,…..etc.

7. Exhibit an independent habit of case approaching and problem solving.

The clinical teaching sessions run 2-3 days a week from Saturday to Wednesday. These sessions will be conducted at King

Fahd Central Hospital, Jazan general hospital, Abu Arish general hospital and Sabia general hospital.
