Edward Ruscha IV was born in Omaha, Nebraska United States. He studied at the California Institute of Arts, his mother was supportive of his early sign of artistic skills and interest. Edward Ruscha IV had a very strong interest in Cartooning, which stayed with him through the year. Edward Ruscha IV work is associated with the POP Art movement of the 1950s. Edward Ruscha IV is largely known for his work in painting, photography, printmaking, film and book art.

Content

Edward Ruscha IV created the ‘Music from the Balconies 1984’ which was inspired from his love of the High-Rise(1975) dystopian novel by J.G. Ballard. The landscape which is beautiful create a nice warm feeling with the calm peaceful skyline but that is contrast with the dark disturbing text. Edward’s seem to be trying to validate an act of violence within the painting overlaying the peaceful unaffected landscape with the Ballard quote. Edward Ruscha created this using oil paint on canvas.

Feeling and moodThe Painting make me feel warm inside from the bright nice almost sunset like cloud but once I read the text my mood shifted because the text changes the whole scenery into violence make me think blood and dead body which is what is connoted from violence.

My opinion

Honk 1962

Edward Ruscha Created Honk 1962 once leaving the California Institute of Arts he went on to work as a layout artist. Honk is a title word, which is diagonally inclined. The letter are filled in yellow acrylic paint it rest in front of a natural dark blue background which trail an area of deep red this maintain an upright position to the yellow lettering. The diagonal slant which the word honk is aligned to slices the page in half. While the palette for honk is limited to 3 primary colours it design is signal to sign painting with it bold clarity and text legibility. Feeling and mood

The painting makes me feel bold and courageous the choice of 3 primary colour emphasize that. The bold clear nature of the work Honk backed unto the dark blue which I’d compare to water and then you red and yellow which link off each other almost like sun. My opinion

This HONK painting create a bold and courageous theme to it uses 3 primary colours, the word HONK come in at an angle where it stand just sit on top of the dark blue background which has significant it make Honk the centre of attention it also link very strongly to his pop culture the Honk look like it could be used as a theatrical poster with link to cinema and Hollywood fame. The red emerging behind the word Honk signify flames to show loudness with the colour red .
