1.1 Vesuvius plc logo

The Vesuvius plc logo has been specially created for the publicly listed company. It must not be altered or re-created.

The Vesuvius plc logo may only be used by plc, its employees, agents and agencies.

The logo appears in two shades of grey.

The logo must be applied as shown in the guidelines to achieve consistency and to build a coherent image.

On white:

• Vesuvius is 85% black, Pantone Cool Gray 11c or RGB 75 75 77

• plc is 60% black, Pantone Cool Gray 8c or RGB 134 135 137.

Out of dark grey:

• Vesuvius is white or RGB 255 255 255

• plc is 20% black, Pantone Cool Gray 2c or RGB 204 204 204.

NB: A 100% black (mono, solid colour) version has been created for use on faxed communications.

This mono, solid colour version may also be provided to suppliers for use in embossing or foil blocking for example onto diaries, and when applying the Vesuvius plc logo to glass.

When the Vesuvius plc logo is to be etched into glass or applied as an opaque vinyl decal, the solid colour version must be provided to the supplier to ensure that good definition and clarity is achieved.

1.2 Logo border, minimum clear space and minimum size

It is important that the Vesuvius plc logo occupies a clear space to maintain the visual integrity of the identity, enhancing its clarity and impact. No other elements (for example secondary logos) should be closer than the exclusion zone indicated by the letter ‘E’ height (see diagram opposite).

The logo must not be linked to any other symbol, or used as an integral part of text.

The minimum clear space around the Vesuvius plc logo corresponds to the height of the ‘E’ contained within the Vesuvius plc logo

The design elements for the Vesuvius plc letterhead and compliments slip, as shown, must be used consistently. Letterheads and compliments slips should be printed in Pantone colours.

Logo: the Vesuvius plc logo is positioned top left, as shown, and 5 mm tall (half of the height of the ‘V’ in the endorsement bar).

2.3 PowerPoint presentations

To maintain the impact of the Vesuvius brand, the PowerPoint presentation template should maintain consistent formatting of the Vesuvius plc logo, colour, type style and size, position of the page elements, bullet points etc.

The recommended text is Arial Narrow upper and lower case, and the size should be 18pt or above unless there are exceptional circumstances. In all presentations it is important to remember that minimal text will achieve maximum effect, therefore a second page should be used rather than placing a large amount of text in a small space.

When formulating a presentation on behalf of Vesuvius plc, the endorsement bar – right must be used on the title slide. The Vesuvius plc logo is positioned centrally at the bottom of the slide.

Locations of key design elements are shown in the diagrams opposite, based on a standard 4:3 proportioned PowerPoint page (254 mm x 190 mm).

Title page: the presentation title must appear in 24pt Arial Narrow RGB red 216 30 5, and the date / location / author must appear in 18pt Arial Narrow RGB grey 134 135 137.

Presentation slides: presentation pages must include the endorsement line across the top of the page. A mid grey band at the foot of the page contains the endorsement globe left and the Vesuvius plc logo in white and light grey bottom right.

2.5.1 Photography – black and white

Photography should be creative, dynamic and relevant. It is a key element in literature design.

One exceptional image powerfully represents our brand correctly. Poor quality images reflect badly.

Photographs must be of a high quality and to a professional standard. Vesuvius plc black and white photography (shown opposite) should utilise well defined and relevant imagery.

2.5.2 Photography – soft colour range


Vesuvius colour photography (shown opposite) should utilise well defined and relevant imagery.

Soft colour range defines pictures containing a dominance of grey colours slightly mixed with one of the tones shown in the colour range.

An exception is made for the red, which can be dominant.

2.6 Envelopes

The design elements for envelopes are to be used as a guide. Envelopes should be printed in Pantone colours.

Colours: Vesuvius greys (GEN 1 Correct use of colour).

Vesuvius: Pantone Cool Gray 11c .

plc: Pantone Cool Gray 8c.

The Vesuvius plc logo, measuring 1/4 of the envelope width, must appear in the top left corner, aligning left with the edge of the envelope window (where no window is present a margin of 2 x E must be allowed).
