NEW Continous improvement on scan post-processing

In Dental system 2020 the 3D model scan data calculations are now up to 25% faster compared to 2019 version. This is enabled with the “Prefer GPU Triangulation”option in Advanced Settings inside the scanning software.

NEW Scan quality of the E4 scanners enhanced with DS 2020!

Dental System 2020 improves the scan performance of E4 scanners. Enhanced scan algorithms reduce noise and scan artifacts being generated when scanning gypsum models, impressions and using multi-die fixtures. This means that the scans are sharper and more accurate than before, without compromising the fast processing time.

NEW All-in-one implant bridge workflow

A new all-in-one reduced implant bridge workflow has been implemented to make it faster to design implant bridges and give full flexibility.

The new workflow has all design options in one common workflow to make it convenient to use. The workflow gives full design flexi-bility, allowing to offset or design preps in just few clicks, combine any type of cutback option or leave a fully anatomical crown. Final crown shape can be used to create optimal anatomically correct restorations, as well as lingual bands and facial cutbacks.

The gingiva is now fitted to the teeth within one click, saving time for the user, and making a more accurate result. The new workflow is available for full anatomical implant bridge with gingiva. After closing the case, a second layer order will be created to finish the crown design on top. The new implant bridge reduction feature is built on top of the existing full anatomy bridge workflow, so it is possible to use all available implant bridge types in one workflow.

NEW Direct access to tutorials in Dental System 2020

All 3Shape academy tutorials are now directly accessible from inside Dental System. A new button is added near help icon on every step to allow you to directly access the relevant video. Currently, there are more than 130 tutorials directly linked to support specific workflows. New tutorials will continuously be added automatically without requiring you to update to the next Dental System version.

NEW More flexibility with additional scans

It is now possible to merge all selected models into one and save the combined design for future use. Any changes made are saved in the extended scan. This allows to create virtual mock-ups straight from the design or prepare models for future use. This functionality is available in the right toolbar under the Additional scans feature, allowing you to either save a design, which can be one tooth or more teeth, or load an existing design.

The tool Mirroring in 3Shape Smile Composer® feature is ex-panded with the functionality Morph to additional, that caters for morphing of design to any additional scan. Wax-up, previ-ous design, or mock-up can be uploaded to replicate during modelling. The update to this functionality gives significantly faster and more stable results.

NEW Copy Denture workflow with CAM5 output

The copy denture function introduced in Dental System 19.3 allows you to make an exact copy of an existing denture. You scan the existing denture, modify the design if needed and either mill or print it.

With Dental System 2020, the workflow is enhanced with CAM5 output that allows you to send the denture design directly to Ivoclar mill in a few simple steps.

NEW Gingivator 3.0

Designing gingiva for full dentures is one of the most time consuming steps, requiring up to 10-15 min design time. With the new Gingivator, the design of anatomically realistic gingivas just got faster and simpler. Use preset values or customize your settings to deliver a more natural appearance.

NEW Ivotion disc from Ivoclar

Ivoclar Vivadent launched the new Ivotion disc - an innovative way to fabricate a full denture in one uninterrupted milling pro-cess. Ivotion uses a unique databased 3-dimensional tooth and dental arch geometry in the disc.

Ivotion combines teeth and base material in one bicolor disc to deliver an efficient monolithic digital denture solution. Milled dentures only need polishing prior to delivery.

With Dental System 2020, users will be able to design the den-tures and accurately place it within the disc. This manufacturing workflow will be exclusively available in 3Shape Dental System.

NEW Ivoclar Vivadent patented workflow for 3Shape users

All Dental System users will now be able to access the exclusive workflows of Ivoclar Vivadent for free!

The oversize process workflows include dental treatment steps, simple and guided design steps and tooth libraries. The workflow is available for separate tooth and denture base materials, as well as the monolithic milling process with the new Ivotion disc.

Previously, users had to purchase an additional add-on dongle from Ivoclar Vivadent to enable these workflows. Now, all 3Shape Dental System users will get the patented workflows for free, enabled by default in their dongle.

The teeth libraries from Ivoclar Vivadent will remain as a paid option that users can purchase from resellers.

NEW Combine models with design functionality

A new step in all Model Builder workflows allows you to merge with a model or to make space in gingiva for each individual restoration. This step enables new design and model combina-tions. It is now possible to merge a model with any type of indi-cations. For example, you can combine scan and a frame layer and use it as a hand veneering guide or make a full anatomical diagnostic waxup.

A preview of gingival cut settings makes the adjustments much faster.

NEW Simpler design of Diagnostic Wax-up models

With this great feature, available in all Model Builder work-flows, you will be able to create diagnostic models much faster. You can virtually remove the existing teeth, and there-by cater for adding temporary pontics or crowns. You can create a diagnostic model, by merging the case order and the designed temporaries. This improvement allows you to get a diagnostic model within the original order case.

NEW Extract scan abutment with a click

The tooth extraction tool can now also be used for virtual extraction of scan bodies. This makes it easier to design models for orders wihtout gingival scans.

NEW Flexible soft tissue design

Designing soft tissue is now much easier as updated controls are more intuitive and gives more freedom to operate. It is possible to adjust bottom part of the tissue taking into account the angle and height of the plane. This especially helps in case of digital models with implant analogs on a different level.

NEW Easier material management

A new filter makes browsing for materials in the order form much easier. It is available for all drop down menus in the Dental Manager order form providing better search for ma-terial, implant system, manufacturer or external lab. You can simply type the name or just few letters to narrow down the search. Furthermore, it is possible to select favorite materials, making them appear at the top of the list for quick access.

NEW Material validation

Materials have new validations and restrictions that delivers better control when producing the restoration. Manufacturers can set these settings according to their preferences for specif-ic materials and the respective applications.

The material validations and restrictions are added to the tab Materials under Basic Elements in Control Panel.

NEW PLY scans import

It is now possible to import PLY scan format in Import Scan dialogue in Dental Manager together with DCM and STL. All types of PLY models are supported, textured, colored and non-colored. This enables you to use scans from 3rd party intraoral scanners with all color information trans-ferred into design software.

NEW Customize the 3Shape TRIOS® order form specifically to your lab

To make it easier to work with your TRIOS dentist, a tool to edit the TRIOS order form is implemented. It allows you to customize the TRIOS Order Form in your 3Shape Communicate® to only include the materials and indications that your lab offers. That means clinics only see and order indications and materials your lab provides.

The customized TRIOS order form is then uploaded into 3Shape Communicate, so that Dentists connecting to your lab use the customized form.

NEW Augmented Reality with IvoSmile®

3Shape Dental System 2020 is integrated with IvoSmile® augmented reality app by Ivoclar Vivadent. The integration enables labs to receive patient face images, including into Dental System the proposed aesthetic treatment, right from the app to the Dental System. The proposed aesthetic treatment is received in the Anatomy Design, via 3Shape Communicate. The restoration can be designed using actual patient images and send the design back to the IvoSmile® app for review and approval by the doctor and patient.

NEW Lab Management System Integration

3Shape Dental System 2020 is integrated with global Lab Management Systems (LMS) for efficiency in labs using both systems. The integration synchronizes case information and status across Dental System and LMS via 3Shape Communicate. This eliminates the need for entering information in both sys-tems, thereby saving time.

Synchronization allows you to use your Lab Management System as the core planning tool. Furthermore, 3Shape TRIOS® orders will populate information in both Dental System as well as the Lab Management System. 3Shape Dental System is fully integrated with following providers, starting May 2020: Jenmar, Labtrac, MagicTouch, Protetiko and LabStar.

NEW Easy installation

The Installer has been simplified to give a faster and easier way to upgrade to the latest Dental System. When updating the system, all settings, libraries and materials that you have defined will be kept and not be re-set to defaults. No more messages with update ma-terials suggestions will be shown during the installation. You will only have installation options to choose from that are relevant to the selected installation.

A slim installer is created and located on the computer desktop for server installations, that allows you to setup the client system in just one click.

Control Panel and InstallerNEW System cleanup

A clean-up page, System cleanup, has been added to the Control Panel under System Settings. This enables the user to define when the orders, database, auxiliary scans or communicate data should be cleaned. Cleaning these set-tings ensures that the system continues to perform well.

NEW Bellus 3D Dental Pro IntegrationBy a smoothly integrated workflow between 3Shape and Bellus3D Dental Pro app, the digital experience between clinic and lab is enhanced.

1 Make an intraoral scan by TRIOS and send either via 3Shape Communicate® or directly import in the Bellus3D Dental Pro app.

2 Take a 3D face scan of the patient using the Bellus3D Den-tal Pro app, by simple and intuitive instruction of the head movements to the phone guided by the app.

3 The 3D face scan and the intraoral scans are aligned in the Bellus3D app, through a few guided steps.

4 The aligned scans are then exported from the Bellus3D Dental Pro app and can be imported using Additional Scans feature in Dental System 2018 and above.

3Shape Splint StudioSplint Studio is now 510k cleared, and thereby commercially available in the US market. 3Shape Splint Studio 2020.2 brings an improved Articulator with custom motion and a new option to add ID-tags.

The path to the Splint Studio is set per default during the installation. That enables you to start using Splint Studio out of the box.

Launch from Dental Manager

You can now in a convenient and easy way launch Splint Studio directly from Dental Manager. Once you have created an order, click on the right button on your mouse and select Splint Studio.

NEW Custom motion articulator

NEW ID tag step

After finishing the functional design of the splint, and new step now give the user the option to add an ID tag. This can include the patient name, caseID or a custom text.

With Dental System 2020, you also get the latest version of 3Shape Smile Design (19.1). This delivers improved user experience, automation for faster workflows, increased ease of use, and a new set of tools for even more photorealistic smile design proposals. Smile Design is a part of Dental Desktop application, installed for every lab user together with Dental System.

NEW Assisted identification of facial points and lipline

Your Smile Design software will now automatically detect the alignment points leaving you to simply verify and make minor adjustments, when needed.

NEW Intuitive import of patient photos and attachment of supplemental photos

After creating a Smile Design case, you will be presented with a visual step for importing photos directly from your file browser. Additionally, it is now possible to attach supplemen-tary photos, such as profile photos, to the case for reference and improved communication with a lab, clinical staff, and other case collaborators.

Note: It is still possible to import photos as ‘attachments’ in the order form, as well as via the 3Shape Communicate® app

NEW Preview function of the Smile and Texture Libraries

Scroll through the smile and texture libraries for a quick visualization and assessment of each library option. Then, select the favorite option for the patient with speed and confidence.

This update is also aimed at improving ease of use for those interacting with Smile Design using a touchscreen interface.

NEW Integrated images from the Fabulous Smiles Book

The ‘Fabulous Smiles Book’, by Kate Brantvik & Prze mek Seweryniak, gives the patient and dentist the option to browse through a book with images of different “natu ral smiles” from real people. All smiles are available in the Fab smile libraries allowing the patient to select a smile and the lab to make the smile.

Images have now been integrated into the Smile Design software and will appear when selecting a FabSmile from the smile library. This makes it easier to match a patient with the right tooth library, using the image as a visual communication aid.

3Shape Implant Studio 20203Shape Implant Studio® 2020, available in March 2020, introduces bone-supported guides, which enables you higher support and control when working on edentulous cases. Furthermore, we are introducing a new hints and notifications system, to make Implant Studio and implant treatment planning easier to learn. Implant Studio 2020.1 has also an advanced algorithm for surface modelling and new local guide offset setup.

NEW Intuitive design of bone-supported guides

In 3Shape Implant Studio® 2020.1, it is now possible to design bone-supported guides when for no other options are viable. In the bone-supported guide workflow, the CT scan is transformed into a surface model to build a surgical guide in two easy steps. The built-in warnings and safety calculations guide, along with the new functionality to compensate for porous ridges or recent extraction sockets, then enhance the final result.

New guide design tools are available, allowing precise control of the parts of the guide resting tightly on cortical bone, while lifting other parts over any residual thin bone walls around recent extraction sockets. A full suite of controls is available to adjust the guide including auto-building support bars and viewing windows.

NEW Advanced algorithm for surface modelling

The initial surface model is defined using thresholding. However, using a simple second step, a smooth and stable surface model is produced, which allow for easy guide design without compromis-ing details such as bone protrusions.

NEW Local guide offset step

3Shape Implant Studio® 2020.1 enables planning of areas of cortical bone to ensure the safe and stable placing of the guide.

The local guide offset step allows the user to define the distinct areas where the guide should be relieved from the segmented bone surface. This results in fewer adjustments to the patient’s jaw during surgery, and a potentially faster, less invasive procedure.

NEW Uncomplicated, safer process flow

Implant Studio 2020.1 features several performance and UI enhancements. These include fewer clicks needed to apply guide-support functions and an improved algorithm for guide creation, leading to a better user experience.

Implant Studio 2020.1 is also equipped with a new notification and hint system, which identifies design-related issues and offers suggestions on how to solve them. Hints and notifications can however be disabled anytime.

3Shape Clear Aligner Studio and workflowsClear aligners are easy to do with 3Shape Clear Aligner Studio. The step-by-step solution is the fast and easy way for you to add clear aligners to your lab’s services. Following features are available in Clear Aligner Studio 19.2, released to Dental Desktop in November 2019.

3Shape Clear Aligner Studio is available as an add-on module to Dental System.

Start with simple clear aligner treatments

Clear Aligner Studio’s automated features and guided workflows make it easy to create simple clear aligner treatments like anterior cases. Just print your models and vacuum form the aligners.

• The new and improved Collisions Detection enables the user to have proactive re-al-time collision de-tection. When trying to move teeth into a position that is already occupied by another tooth, the software will halt the movement. This works with thresholds so the user can ensure hard contact where they want them. The system tracks all contacts and intersections in real-time and assists the user in pointing out the sub setups where they occur and display them in the Setup & Staging overview.

• A lot of medical professionals using the software prefer to use intersections as IPR. The new version can interpret intersection teeth as IPR andmap those values into the reports that the system can generate, so the doctor has instructions on where to perform IPR.

• A new Overlay Feature has been implemented where both malocclusion and ideal setup can be seen clearly in the same view using transparency and colours. This feature works like the one in the Indirect Bonding workflow.

• Occlusion feature added to the CAS workflow. When working with some impressions or 3rd party scans, the dental doesn’t always have the luxury of a quality bite regis-trations, and sometimes it will even be completely missing. A non-mandatory work-flow step has been introduced that allow the user to arrange a bite based on a quality distance map and by visually evaluating how the jaws line up against each other while adjusting them.

• Attachment groups for automatic placement. You can setup and switch between dif-ferent sets of at-tachments, to either accommodate specific doctor wishes, or different price categories of treatments, for more flexibility and higher profitability. This is espe-cially helpful for labs working together with dif-ferent doctors that might have different preferences when it comes to attachments.

NEW The first lab-dedicated clear aligner solution

For the first time, 3Shape offers a fully outsourced and convenient  workflow of clear aligners to industry-leading experts, which does not require you to have extensive ortho knowledge. The clear aligners are designed by FullContur and manufactured by Argen. 

You can either chose to create the case in Dental Manager and send it to FullContour, using the integrated FullContour workflow in Dental System. Or you can use the Treatment Review functional-ity in 3Shape Communicate® to submit the order. Here you will also be able to review the clear aligner design together with the dentist, before sending to manufacturing.

Regulatory updatesDental System is a medical device in the EU and therefore all new systems will be delivered with Dental System 2020.

Using Dental System to design crown lengthening guides is considered misuse.
