GRADING This is a physical activity lab where attendance and participation

are critical to grade computations. In order to participate, the student must be dressed appropriately.

1. Attendance = 10% (BE HERE) 2. Dressing out = 10% (BE PREPARED) 3. Participation = 50% (BE ACTIVE) 4. Knowledge Test = 20% (BE LEARNED) 5. STATE ASSESSMENT STANDARDS = 10%

(MUST HAVES)

75% OF GRADE PERTAINS TO STUDENT’S DIRECT DAILY CONTROL of being here, being prepared, and active while 25% is actual studying the guides, handouts, and applying instruction to pencil-paper tasks.

Uniform

All students are required to dress appropriately for movement, safety, hygiene, and appropriateness.

If there are any concerns, please contact the instructor. This includes:

Dark Gym Shorts (3-4” INSEAM MANDATORY) - discipline notice Plain white or grey T-shirt: last name - back Gym Shoes & Socks Sweats or jackets as necessary for outside classes DO NOT wear jewelry as it may become damaged or CAUSE

Dressing Out A homework responsibility, self-responsibility, and self-discipline. The students have a locker in which the PE clothes can come on

Monday and be taken home on Friday for cleaning. More than one T-shirt or shorts can be used throughout the week. Consequences

1st ND = Verbal Warning still possible to gain an “A” in dress grade area.

2nd ND = Best Grade possible is “B” in dress grade area, call home 3rd ND = Best Grade possible is “C” in dress grade area and AM or

lunch/activity detention. 4th ND = Best grade possible is “D” in dress grade area and AM or

lunch/activity detention. 5th ND = “F” in dress grade area and AM or lunch/activity detention. 6+ = 90 minute after-school Detentions. ALL DETENTIONS are logged in the office (8th Grade take notice)

Locks & Lockers All students are given a lock and locker sharing with no one.

THE STUDENT is responsible for their gym attire & security when not in class.

Lock Replacement cost is $5 if lost or not returned Locker Room Times

Students must be in the locker room before the tardy bell (as with any other class) or must have a tardy slip.

Students have 3 minutes to prepare for class at the beginning. Students have 3-5 minutes to change after activity. Dismissed at the

bell from the locker room. NO one is allowed in the locker room during class time unless

permitted by instructor. INFRACTION: If a student leaves class without permission before

the bell, a discipline notice will be written with detention assigned.

Classroom Procedure

Beginning of class, you are to be IN assigned exercise/attendance positions.

Equipment Rules No one is permitted to use equipment without direction from

instructor/s. No misuse of equipment is tolerated.

No Physical or Psychological harm (bullying or similar) will be inflicted during class.

Students will focus on the task/s at hand. No talking during instruction or warm-ups.

Any injury MUST BE REPORTED to an instructor if it occurs during class.

Physical Education Excuse Notes Parent/Guardian Notes are for one day requesting modifications or

removal from activity. Same injury/illness multiple requests requests for MD follow-up for the safety & well-being of the student. Please include a phone number.

More than one day notes are Physician/MD required notes. Our school nurse notes may suffice in special conditions. NOTE requirements:

STUDENTS ARE TO DRESS FOR CLASS even if excused with a MD’s note except for castings or bracings that prohibit the change of clothes.

Class Participation Criteria Attendance/Promptness:

Student is always prompt and regularly attends class. Preparation:

Student is always prepared for class with required attire &/or pencil as needed.

Listening Skills: Student listens when others talk and demonstrates appropriate

non-verbal skills of attention. Student incorporates &/or builds off the ideas or instructions

given. Behavior:

Student never displays disruptive behavior during class. Student follows all class and school rules without question.

Class Participation Criteria Class Engagement Level:

Student proactively contributes to class more than once per class. Effort: Attempts all activities to the best of their ability. Performs

all stretches, crunches, pushups, and jogging/running in warm-ups. Attempts to gain fundamental skills through practice in class and to perfect those skills.

Attitude: Positive and helpful, willingness to try, willingness to assist those less skilled and desires to make themselves better.

Sportsmanship: Realizes that rules of activity, game or working as a member of the team are of the highest value. Congratulates success and thankful for the willingness to participate even in a losing attempt. This is RESPECT & HONOR of others.

Teamwork: Willing to share the activity with others, allow others the opportunity to attempt to use and improve their skills in practice and game situations; assists those who are experiencing difficulty by sharing (peer teacher) how they do it or gained the skills. This is COOPERATION.

Knowledge

There will be paper & pencil knowledge assessments throughout the term.

The material covered will be in class and study guide format.

Students may always ask instructors questions throughout the unit for clarifications.

Students are given in-class time to begin if not completed most assignments.

The Take-Home projects will be given a project due date at the time of instruction.

Content Standards Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and

movement patterns to perform a variety of physical activities. Standard 2: Demonstrate understanding of movement

concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity. Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing

level of physical fitness. Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social

behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

Our Curriculum Constantly evolving to more fitness and skill acquisition with less

emphasis on competitive games. Every Quarter (9-10 weeks)

Fitness Training for 10-15 minutes of every class until Fitness Assessments: 5 weeks

Cardiovascular Endurance Muscular Strength & Endurance

• Arms/Shoulders• Hips/Legs• Chest & Back• Core

Skills Instruction/Practice 10-15 minutes of every class: Throwing, Catching, Striking, Sequential Patterning & Rhythmical Coordination: 5 weeks

Various game play to challenge acquired skills in integrated situations: last 2-3 weeks as student class performance dictates
