wasbeingbrutallymurderedbeforehisveryeyes.

Helistenedtohisinstinctsandranforsurvival.

He

kept

runningaway

from

death,

pain,

horrorto

cling

on

to

hope,freedomandlife.KnowntodayastheFlyingSikh,hislifeisa

testimonytotheValueofFreedom.

LikeMilkha Singh,many children continue to hear the same echo of Bhaag Bachon Bhaag...they have to keeprunning inorder to survive. Sadly,manydontmake it! They are victimsof abuse, corruption,bonded labour, sex

trafficking andmore. InBihar, the recentdeathsof23 innocent children causedbecauseof food lacedwith lethal

pesticides,shockedmany.Wearepoor learners!Afewdaysago, inMaharashtra,73studentsofagovernment run

residentialschoolforgirlsinBuldanadistricthadbeenhospitalizedforsuspectedfoodpoisoning.Shouldkidsrunfrom

theveryhandsthatfeedthem?Aretheytorunfromtheveryteacherswhoaresupposedtocareandprotectthem.

Theywould,

if

they

could.

But,

where

would

they

run

to?

There

are

not

many

choices

or

avenues

to

freedom

either.

TryinggettingasimplejobdonemanyIndiansstillheartheechoBhaagBhaiBhaagyouhavetorunfrompillartoposttoget thejobdone:be itacquiringadriving licenseoratelephoneconnection,acertificateoreventodefend

yourownbasicrights. Payabribe,andyoustoprunning.LifestylesofcorruptionenslavesmanyanIndian.Freedomis

stillamyth.Whencanwesimplywalkfreelyagain?isaquestiononeveryonesmind.

IndependenceDayismorethanjustafurlingoftheflag,asaluteandapiouspatrioticspeech.Independenceisacallto

live life in freedom and to promote the freedom of those enslaved by any forms of domination, exploitation and

discrimination.WhilewepayhomagetothefreedomfightersofourIndependence,weneedtosalutetodaythedaring

Real Heroes who take the courage to stop those who continue running away from fear, death, exploitation,

violenceand

terror,

and

provide

for

them

aheaven

of

peace.

Independence

is

about

walking

free;

not

running

in

fear.

Whenwillourchildrenstoprunningfromthethoughtofbeingpoisonedbymiddaymeals?

Whenwillourgirlsstoprunningfromthefearofbeingrapedorscaredbyacidattacks?

Whenwillouryouthstoprunningfromthedangersofasocietythatexploitstheiryouthfulness?

Whenwillourseniorcitizensstoprunningfromthedangersofbeingabandonedandleftalone?

BhaagMilkhaBhaagisachoicehehadtomaketosurvive.Lifeismorethatjustrunningaroundincirclesweneedtostop,takestockofourFreedomQuotientandhavethecouragetowalktogetherinpeace,hopeandlove.This is

thevalue

of

true

freedom

and

no

one

can

take

it

away

from

us.

AreweProudofour Independence? Where is India today?Whatwould the Fatherof thenationdo ifhewere

around?Wouldhebeproudofallthetime,trouble,andefforthetookbyinitiatingNonViolencebywhichIndiawon

herfreedomfromtheBritishRule.Whatdoyouthink?Areweproudofourselvesordoweneedtohangourheads

inshameatthestateourcountryisintoday?

WearenodoubtfreefromBritishrulebutarewefreefromCorruption,Violence,andInjusticewhichplaguesour

societytoday.WhenhumanbeingsforgettheirtrueidentityasSpiritualbeings,andbegintoidentifywiththeirbod

ies,their

material

assets,

they

come

under

the

influence

of

vices,

which

is

the

main

cause

of

Violence.

AnarticletakenfromTheSpeakingTreementionsfourformsofViolence:Lust,Anger,Greed,andEgo.Lustdestroysallpurityinthesoulofahumanbeing.Lustdoesnotonlymeanphysicalpleasures,butalsolustingfor

moneyandpower.Oncethesoulisengulfedbylustitcreatesendlesscyclesofdesireandindulgence.Itmakesone

extremelyselfish.TakeagoodlookatourPoliticianstoday,aresomeofthemreallyfittobePoliticiansoraretheyin

itforreapingbenefitsforthemselves,ratherthancaringfortheinterestsoftheCommonman.Youbethejudge.

Whenexpectationsarenotmet,itkindlesangerwhichburnstheselfaswellasothers.Whenpeopledontdowhatis

expectedofthemanddontdoasweexpectthemtodowegetangry.Whenweareangryourdiscernmentgoesfor

asix,

which

can

cause

great

damage

on

alarge

scale

such

as

war,

terrorism

and

murders.

Agreedypersonisalwayspooreventhoughhemayhavealotofmaterialassets.Whenoneisfilledwithgreedone

isneversatisfied.Peoplewhoarefilledwithgreedcanneverbehappyandcanneverenjoylifeastheyarealwaysin

want.Duetogreedmanandnatureareexploitedwhichcausevastdestruction.

Egoisolatesapersonandcreates,discord,andhatred.Whenunderitsinfluenceweloseourselfrespect.Anegoistic

personisalwaysinsecureandseeksattention.

InordertosustainPeaceandharmony inoursoulswehavetostayawayfromthingswhichviolateourselves.We

needtoseekDivine interventionwhich istheanswerto lastingpeaceandharmony inourworld.Letusmakethat

shiftwhich

is

not

easy

when

one

is

rooted

in

things

which

burden

ones

soul,

then

and

only

then

can

we

truly

be

free

andfreeournationand liveuptotheexpectationswhichtheFatherofournationexpectsofus.WhereareourVal

uestoday?Lookatthenewspapers,everydaywefindeitherarapebeingcommitted,orachildbeingmolested,look

atyoungchildrentodayfindingsolaceineitherhangingthemselvesortakingaleapoutofthewindoworconsuming

poisonastheycannotcopewithwhatlife offersthem,theyalwayswanttheeasywayout.Parentsareforcedtoad

here to their childrens demands or else fear the consequenceof losing them.

Whyisallthishappening, itisbecauseourchildrenarenotbeingtaughtVALUES

whichplayanimportantroleinchildupbringingthatweasacountryarefacing.
