Strategy: Tool to Help with Alignment
Tool must answer 4 key questions:
1. Can employers access a readily accessible pool of employees?
2. Can job seekers identify current and emerging career/salary opportunities?
3. Can economic development, workforce development and education professionals identify appropriate applications of their resources and measure their ROI?
4. If not, can we identify and remediate the gaps?
Goal: Provide community with a means to use a common language and common data to drive strategic planning for economic development and workforce development.

ResultsThe Strategic Compass has allowed our region to:
1. Attract new business to our region identifying potentially relocating firms that make a “good fit” with our regions workforce.
2. Quickly and effectively access data from multiple data sources, in real time, through one portal at our desktops.
3. Look at SOC, NAICS and CIP across classifications and analyze information quickly and effectively.
4. Evaluate shifts in the job market.
ResultsThe Strategic Compass has allowed our region to:
5. Match skilled workers with the needs of local industries.
6. Prepare displaced workers for growing industries.
7. Allow higher education institutions to develop new or refine existing programs to match future business/career opportunities.
8. Secure grant awards, in part based on the data captured from the Strategic Compass.
9. Higher education institutions reviewing current CIP program codes associated with their current program classifications.
