1 Overview

1.1 What Is Direct Connect?Direct Connect is a service that allows you to establish a dedicated network connection fromyour data center to the public cloud platform. You can establish a private connection betweenthe public cloud platform and your data center, office, or colocation environment, which canreduce your network latency and provide a more consistent network experience than Internet-based connections.

1.2 Use ScenariosFigure 1-1 shows the use scenarios of Direct Connect.

1.3 Procedure of Enabling Direct ConnectTo enable Direct Connect, you need to do the following:

1. Negotiate with a carrier and sign a contract.2. Log in to Huawei Enterprise Cloud, fill out an application, and submit the order.3. After the administrator approves the application, pay the order and contact the carrier

who will have engineers connect physical circuits with the assistance of Huaweiengineers.

4. Test and verify that hosts at the two ends can communicate.

1.4 Charging StandardsThe price of Direct Connect with the 1GE port is RMB 560 yuan per month (RMB 6720 yuanper year). The price of Direct Connect with the 10GE port is RMB 3720 yuan per month(RMB 44,640 per month).

2 Getting Started

2.1 Enabling the Direct Connect Service

ScenariosApply for a Direct Connect connection to enable ECSs in your VPC to communicate withyour data center or private network, or to increase the bandwidth to meet servicerequirements.

Procedure1. Log in to the management console.2. On the console homepage, under Network, click Direct Connect.3. On the Direct Connect page, click Apply for Connection shown in Figure 2-1.

4. On the Apply for Connection page shown in Figure 2-2, set parameters as prompted.Table 2-1 lists the required parameters.

5. After the configuration is complete, click Buy Now.

6. Read the Huawei Virtual Private Cloud Service Agreement and select I have read andagreed to the Huawei Virtual Private Cloud Service Agreement. Then click ConfirmApplication. Figure 2-3 shows the page for you to confirm the application.

7. Click the username in the upper right corner and select My Order.

8. On the ALL Orders page, check the order status.– If the order status is Waiting for approval, the order is waiting for the system

administrator's approval.– If the order status is To be paid, go to 9.

9. Click Pay.10. Select a payment mode, and click OK.

NOTE

This operation applies only to the Yearly/Monthly charging mode.

– The system provides four payment modes: Pay by balance, Pay by platform, Payby online banking, and Pay by transfer and remittance.

– If you select Pay by balance, recharge your account in time to ensure that youraccount has sufficient balance to pay your order.

– If you select Pay by platform or Pay by online banking, perform operations asprompted to pay your order.

– If you select Pay by transfer and remittance, transfer money to the specifiedaccount based on information provided on the displayed page and submit a workorder.

11. After you pay the order, wait for the administrator to create the connection and enableDirect Connect for you. Direct Connect requires configuration offline and you will beinformed once the service is enabled for you.

3 Management

3.1 Checking a Connection

Scenarios

After you have enabled the Direct Connect service, you can view the connection that has beencreated for you on the management console.

Procedure1. Log in to the management console.2. On the console homepage, under Network, click Direct Connect.3. On the Direct Connect console, you can view the connection that has been created for

you.

3.2 Changing the Connection Name and Subnet

Scenarios

After you have enabled Direct Connect, you can change the connection name and subnet. Tomodify more information, contact the administrator.

Procedure1. Log in to the management console.2. On the console homepage, under Network, click Direct Connect.3. On the Direct Connect console, you can view the connection that has been created for

you, as shown in Figure 3-2.

4. Click Modify in the upper right corner of Figure 3-2 to change the Name and RemoteSubnets of the connection. Figure 3-3 shows the Modify Connection dialog box.

4 FAQs

4.1 What Is Direct Connect?Direct Connect is a service that allows you to establish a dedicated network connection fromyour data center to the public cloud platform. You can establish a private connection betweenthe public cloud platform and your data center, office, or colocation environment, which canreduce your network latency and provide a more consistent network experience than Internet-based connections.

4.2 Can I Access Multiple VPCs Using a Direct ConnectConnection?

No. Currently, you can access only one VPC using a Direct Connect connection. However,you can contact the administrator to modify VPCs for you so that you can access differentVPCs during different time periods.

4.3 What Port Types Does Direct Connect Support?Direct Connect supports the 1GE electrical port and 10GE optical port.

4.4 What Is the Maximum Bandwidth Supported?The maximum bandwidth supported by physical connections is 10 Gbit/s.

4.5 Do Direct Connect Connections Support DynamicRouting Protocols?

No. Only static routing is supported.

4.6 How Can I Enable Direct Connect?Fill out a Direct Connect application based on the service requirements and hold a businessnegotiation and sign a contract with the carrier. The carrier's engineers connect hosts at the

two ends. The O&M engineers assist in configuring connections, perform the acceptance test,and verify that hosts at the two ends of the connection can communicate.

4.7 How Can I Obtain Direct Connect Information?Contact the carrier.

4.8 What Access Points Does Direct Connect Have?You can obtain the latest access point information by submitting a work order.

4.9 What Factors Do I Need to Take Into Account WhenEnabling Direct Connect?

The factors you need to take into account include the connection bandwidth, number ofconnections, and port type:

For the connection bandwidth, use the value provided by the carrier. For the number ofconnections, determine whether to create only one connection or two connections for high-reliability redundancy. For the port type, the optical or electrical port is supported.

4.10 How Do I Plan the Direct Connect Access Address?The hosts at the two ends of a connection must use different private IP addresses. If you use apublic IP address, you need to convert the public IP address into a private one using NAT.

4.11 What Types of Ports Does Direct Connect Support?Direct Connect supports 1 GE and 10 GE ports.

4.12 What Types of Direct Connect Services AreAvailable?

Currently, only the duration-based (yearly/monthly) Direct Connect service is available.

4.13 What Is the Price of Direct Connect?The price of Direct Connect with the 1GE port is RMB 560 yuan per month (RMB 6720 yuanper year). The price of Direct Connect with the 10GE port is RMB 3720 yuan per month(RMB 44,640 per month).
