Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt is a Cultural Icon. The worlds fastest man. After all, he holds 3 world records in the 100m and 200m dash and the 4x100m. He also has has 6 gold medals between the 2008 Beijing games and this years past games in London. He became the first Olympian to win the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay race in world record times in the same Olympic games.

His full name is Usain St. Leo Bolt.

Since he was 14, he has been known for his incredible speed, competing at regional championships in Western Jamaica to national meets in Kingston then to Wider Caribbean.

His first medal came at any meet in the 80m hurdles, winning bronze. He then was entered in high jump and focused on cricket as a fast bowler before all his energy was focused in track.

After that, he won numerous medals at numerous meets.

However, he was injured in 2005 after breaking the Would Junior Record in the 200m with a time of 19.93. He has since recovered and has set numerous records and won many medals.

He has created a new foundation, Usain Bolt Foundation, dedicated to wanting to

create educational and cultural development through out the schools.

Usain has influenced young children to follow through on their dreams. That any child can achieve to be more than they could ever imagine. Jamaica has the worlds fastest man living right in town, proving that Jamaica can be an amazing place.

Dunn's River Falls Located in Ocho Rios, this falls runs from the

Dunn's river and empties into the Caribbean Sea. You are able to have a guide lead you up the falls, climbing all the way to the top.

Dolphin cove Here you can swim with dolphins as well as

interact with sharks and stingrays. Trained guides will lead you through the water so you can safely interact with these creatures. You are also able to travel through a simulation jungle, experiencing the dangers of pirates (actors) snakes and other creatures of the Jungle.

The Green Grotto Caves These caves are also known as Runaway Bay

Caves, Rum Caves and Hopewell Caves. These caves travel 1 mile back, displaying an array of stalactites, stalagmites and chambers. The cave has massive amounts of history. For example providing shelter to Arawak Indians and the perfect cover to smuggle weapons to Cuba.

Bob Marley Museum This museum is located in Kingston. You are

able to visit his home from when he lived there until his death. You are able to see his recording studio and short movie clips about him in a small theater.

One observation I plan to make is how the people in Jamaica interact with each other. Also, how they react to certain events such as death or work.

Also, I would like to observe how their culture interacts with strangers. Do they welcome us immediately? How much do they want to know about us?

I also would like to observe how much they talk about themselves and is it appropriate to talk about yourself. Do you have to be asked about yourself before it’s acceptable to talk about yourself?

Who do the Jamaican Culture hold the highest respect to? Mothers, Fathers, Grandparents?

What are the different rules of the house in Jamaica? Bathroom etiquette Table/Eating etiquette How much do they expect visitors to help out?

Lessons

The lessons I would bring are to be patient and don’t be to concerned with the difference in culture and if something is drastically different
