A new dawn for the Roo at Sunset!
Set in an official F15 capsule in an official RAM case, each 1oz .999 silver
Proof is complete with a numbered, official
RAM Certificate of Authenticity
Certain to be among the hottest coins of the year, the 2010 $1 Roo at Sunset 1oz Silver Proof is sure to repeat the sell-out success of the 2009 release. As the perfect partner to its highly sought after predecessor, and a must-have for those who missed out last year, the tiny mintage of 5,000 means that time is of the essence for those keen to enjoy Australia’s finest modern coin design.
Capturing the spirit of the Australian Outback – and capturing the imagination of collectors across the globe – that design is truly magnificent. Internationally acclaimed, having been nominated for Krause’s Peoples Choice Coin of the Year, this spellbinding motif was the key to the huge success of the $25 Kangaroo at Sunset 1/5oz Gold Proofs. Giving collectors the chance to enjoy the design set upon a 40mm flan – at a more affordable price – the 2009 $1
Roo at Sunset Silver Proof sold out at speed, and has soared in value to A$150+. Struck by the RAM for The Fabulous 15 Silver Crown Collection, and graced with an ‘F15’ privy mark, it was only due to our
international contacts that we were able to secure this distinctively Australian precious metal Proof. With our allocation limited, and initial demand predictably strong, we must recommend
immediate action.

struck to the RAM’s rigorous BU standards.Like the Proof above, this majestic 40mm 1oz .999 silver coin has been created for The Fabulous 15 Silver Crown Collection, with a majority of the mintage of 7,000 similarly spirited away overseas. Given that the 7,000-
coin mintage of the 2009 $1 Roo at Sunset BU sold out, and knowing that interest in the 2010 release in Australia would be huge, we did our utmost to secure as many coins as possible when this official Australian legal tender issue was recently unveiled.
Despite our best efforts, however, we have only a small number in stock – each set in an official RAM case with an official RAM numbered Certificate of Authenticity.A$89

The collection is complete!A fabulous finale to one of Australia’s most sought after modern coin programs, the last coin of the Perth Mint’s 2010 Australian Sealife Series has just been released! Graced with a striking full-colour design of the powerful, serpentine frame of the Moray Eel, this crucial Australian legal tender issue is sure to be swept
away by the same tidal wave of demand that has engulfed its predecessors. Celebrating some of Australia’s most distinctive reef inhabitants, those predecessors unite to represent one of the Mint’s greatest success stories. The first four coins of the series – each with a mintage of 10,000 – have all officially sold out. As exclusive, as eye-catching and as beautifully presented as its forerunners, the
2010 50c Moray Eel 1/2oz Silver Proof is guaranteed to generate just as much demand. Obviously a must-have for the thousands of collectors committed to assembling a complete collection, this unique coin will appeal to anyone enchanted by full-colour minting. Australia’s new 2010 Gold Sovereign…A proudly Australian release, harking back to the glory days of the 19th century Gold Rush, the Perth Mint has just launched the 2010 Gold Sovereign Proof! Picking up where it left off nearly eight decades ago, the Mint shocked the numismatic world in 2009 with the release of the first Australian coin since 1931 dubbed with the prestigious title of ‘sovereign’. Extremely exclusive, this historic
type naturally inspired tremendous interest worldwide, with the mintage of 2,500 sold out at the Mint. With many people missing out, the release of the eagerly anticipated 2010 Sovereign offers another limited window of opportunity for our clients to enjoy a distinctively Australian fusion of tradition and originality.Like every sovereign struck in Australia,
Sure to spark another Gold Rush!from the first in 1855 to the last in 1931, the 2010 Sovereign Gold Proof is crafted
from 7.9881 grams of 22-carat gold. Adding a contemporary
Australian flavour to the grand tradition of the ‘world’s most famous gold coin’, much as the
Sydney Mint did with Australia’s first sovereign series, the Perth Mint has employed the national Coat of Arms upon the 22.60mm flan. A fitting standard of presentation for such a prestigious Australian legal tender release, each $25 coin is set within a luxurious, official timber case, complete with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity confirming the mintage of 2,500.
Pure .9999 gold – within your reach!
An astonishing opportunity for every Australian to indulge in the unique beauty, rarity and prestige of the world’s favourite precious metal, the Perth Mint has just released the very first Australian legal tender 0.5g .9999 fine Gold BU coin! POLAND – HITTING THE RIGHT NOTE!
MUST-HAVE NEW POLYMER TYPES!
MEXICAN MILESTONE!
It’s set to be a big year for Mexico, with 2010 representing both the centenary of the Mexican Revolution, and the bicentennial of Mexican Independence – a major Mexican milestone honoured with the issue of this superbly designed banknote. An unusual type, created in portrait rather than landscape format, Mexico’s 2010 200 Pesos Independence Bicentennial note carries a striking portrayal
of Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla – the man who declared war on Mexico’s Spanish rulers on September 15th 1810. One of Mexico’s most important landmarks, the Angel of Independence, graces the reverse of this official Mexican commemorative issue. A unique addition to any world banknote collection, we have a small number of this key type in stock – all in Extremely Fine to about Uncirculated condition.
Only Poland’s fourth commemorative note, this unique, attractive tribute to composer and pianist Frederic Chopin (1810-49) is sure to be hotly pursued by collectors worldwide. An officially approved Polish Government issue, this unique type depicts Chopin in profile on the obverse, as well as the house in Zelazowa Wola where he was born. An imaginative type, the right hand side of the obverse reproduces
the first edition of Mazurka in B-flat major Op. 7, No. 1, and the composer’s autograph. The reverse carries a fragment of another of Chopin’s finest works – Etude in f-minor, Op. 10, No. 9 – set against Central Poland’s distinctive landscape. Remarkably exclusive, with only 120,000 notes printed, this landmark Polish legal tender issue is sure to be available for a short time only. Set in an official folder, and top value at just
A$32.50 apiece, each note is in strictly Uncirculated condition.
VIVA LA REVOLUCIÓN!A century after declaring independence from the Spanish, Mexico once again fell into a lengthy war following the Mexican Revolution of 1910 – an uprising against the dictatorial rule of Porfirio Diaz. A unique, important type, a polymer 100 Pesos note was issued recently to mark the centenary of this crucial juncture in Mexican history.
Fascinatingly, the entire print-run of this new commemorative type contained a stark error – a fact admitted by the Bank of Mexico soon after its release. Correctly inscribed ‘SUFRAGIO EFECTIVO’ (effective suffrage) on the obverse, only the reverse of the note bears the inscription ‘SUFRAGIO ELECTIVO’ (elective suffrage)!
Only the fourth polymer type issued by Mexico, we have a small number of this distinctive, affordable banknote in stock – presented in superb Uncirculated quality.
A must-have for the serious polymer note collector, we have just secured stocks of three of the latest issues in the world polymer banknote series! The Central American nation of Honduras has become the latest member of the global polymer family, with the issue of its first polymer note – the 20 Lempira. Another landmark release, the first polymer note type of Paraguay, the
2,000 Guaranies, is sure to be just as hotly pursued by collectors. Only the second polymer type issued by the South American nation of Chile, the 2009 5,000 Peso completes this terrific trio.A fantastic opportunity to keep your collection completely up-to-date in premium grade, all three of these crucial new issues are available in strictly Uncirculated quality.

The first COMPLETE polymer note set!
Embodying a key moment in Australian currency history – the completion of the replacement of paper
with polymer notes – this desirable set represents the very first occasion when each polymer denomination carried the same signature combination.
An undeniably important presentation as a complete collection, never before offered by Downies, the 1994-96 $5-$100 Fraser/Evans Banknote Set comprises five notes – each
individually significant and sought after in its own right. The 1995 Fraser/Evans $5 is the first issue following the change in colour, for example, whilst the 1994 Fraser/Evans $10 is acknowledged as extremely scarce. The Fraser/Evans signature combination also oversaw the issue of the nation’s first polymer $20 and $100 notes, in 1994 and 1996 respectively, with the collection completed by the inclusion of the 1996 $50 – defined by a very small print-run, and rare today. With fourteen years having passed since the last note was issued, it would be extremely
difficult to assemble this collection from change – and impossible to do so in Unc. An outstanding opportunity for our clients, every note in the 1994-96 $5-$100 Fraser/Evans Banknote Set has been sourced directly from original bundles! Stashed away at the time of issue and barely touched by human hands, each note is naturally in guaranteed Uncirculated quality. Even better, the bulk nature of our purchase means we can also offer the set in Consecutive pairs AND Consecutive Runs of 10 – all at way below catalogue value!
Issued in 1984 and 1985 during the Johnston/Stone and Johnston/Fraser signature combinations respectively, Australia’s first two $100 notes are historic, scarce and rising in market value in top grade. A fantastic opportunity,
we are delighted to be able to give you the chance to secure these crucial early $100 issues in strictly Uncirculated quality! The scarcity of early $100 notes is largely due to its status as Australia’s highest denomination. Notwithstanding the inflationary economic
climate that had triggered its release, $100 still represented a massive amount of spending power in the mid-80s, with few people in a position to casually pop a few aside for posterity. Rare in premium grade as a result, we leapt at the chance to buy an
original bundle of the one-year-only 1984 $100 Johnston/Stone and 1985 $100 Johnston/Fraser. Not only your guarantee of quality, the discovery of these key types in original format means they can also be secured as Consecutive Pairs and Consecutive Runs of 10!

White Christmas Cracker!Part of a massive accumulation of early decimal stamps recently purchased by Downies, as with every stamp offered on these pages, we have the highly desirable 1971 7c Christmas Blocks of 25 in stock – in original Cream and rare White Paper versions! An unusual and controversial stamp
issue, the 1971 7c Christmas Block of 25 carries arguably the most notorious decimal stamp design – with each sheet distinguished by a cross. This unique, highly distinctive issue was originally printed upon cream coloured paper, but, late in the production process, Australian postal
authorities replaced the cream stock with white paper – creating a highly collectable pair. The cream paper version is scarce in its own right, with few complete 25-stamp sheets stashed away by collectors, but it is the rare white paper block that is key to the popularity of the issue. Very tough-to-find in
original 25-stamp sheet format, the 1971 7c Christmas White Paper Block is a must-have for the serious Australian philatelist. Missing from most collections, don’t ignore the chance to add BOTH the White Paper and Cream Paper 1971 7c Christmas Blocks to yours in stunning MUH condition!

One of a kind
The only decimal stamps printed in this unusual format, the First England-Australia Flight 50th Anniversary trio is unique. The stamps were arranged in the sheet in a se-tenant
format, with each horizontal or vertical strip of three having three possible combinations! No other decimal stamps have been printed in this way! Hotly pursued, the Block of Nine illustrates all possible combinations of the different strips of
three.
A scarce, high denomination collection, celebrating some of Australia’s most iconic artworks, the 1975-79 $1-$10 Australian Paintings Set is seldom seen in MUH quality. A compelling presentation, each set comprises the $1 (Sergeant of the Light Horse by Lambert), $2 (Red Gums of the Far North by Heysen), $4
(Shearing the Rams by Roberts), $5 (McMahon’s Point by Streeton) and $10 (Coming South by Roberts) stamps. Highlighted by the first Australian $5 and $10 stamps, the high face values of the series saw few set aside at the time of issue, and the set is scarce in top grade. ‘Double Spear’ Error!
The trigger for the issue of Australia’s first decimal commemorative coin, the bicentenary of James Cook’s discovery of the east coast of Australia also inspired a groundbreaking philatelic issue – the first decimal stamp minisheet! A landmark Australian stamp release, printed in imperforate format, a small percentage of the 1970 30c Cook Minisheet issue was distinguished by a distinctive error. Resulting from a shift during printing, a ‘double
spear’ effect can be seen near the 30c value. Scarce, this unusual philatelic blunder is, like all Australian stamp Error Varieties, seldom seen on the market and highly sought after by collectors. In superb Mint Unhinged condition, we have just a few examples of this Error Variety in stock – accompanied by a standard 1970 30c Cook Minisheet for comparison.

With different ‘perforation gauges’ used over time, creating stamps with a different number of perforations – known as ‘Perfs’ – changes in stamp production technology have had important consequences for the field of philatelics. Comprising 29 stamps – including several scarce to rare issues – and covering two types of Perfs, this unusual set represents one such consequence. In 1973, new perforation equipment was introduced in Australia, with the machines set at 14 & 3/4 gauge rather than 14 & 1/4 gauge.

Australia’s premier annual silver issue…Defined by breathtaking quality, pure precious metal and strictly limited availability, the RAM’s Silver Proof Set is recognised as Australia’s premier annual silver issue. A superb presentation, enshrining Australia’s beloved traditional decimal designs in lustrous .999 fine silver, the latest addition to the series is sure to prove just as popular as its sought after predecessors. An exclusive, prestigious Australian legal tender release, the 2010 Silver Proof Set comprises an example of all six Australian circulating coins from the 5c to the $2. Bearing the
traditional motif for its denomination, each coin has been struck with specially prepared dies, and is distinguished by sharply detailed, highly frosted designs, gracing the most pristine of mirror fields. Magnificent individually, the six coins form a stunning presentation when united within the luxurious confines of the official RAM timber case. An apt setting for such a splendid collection, with the sumptuous black surrounds providing a brilliant contrast with the glittering .999 fine silver, this impressive presentation case is adorned with an individually numbered plaque. A numbered Certificate
of Authenticity is also included, confirming the mintage of just 6,000.With so few issued worldwide, and considering the scarcity and rising market value of every issue in the Silver Proof Set series, the time to secure the 2010 Proof Set is right now – at the Mint’s Official Issue Price.
