1. PRAISE the Lord that Dr. C.I. Scofield foundedthe Central American Mission on November 14,1890. It is now known as CAM INTERNATION-AL. CAM turned 120 years old last Sunday. “Wecelebrate the sustaining legacy of more than acentury of fruit among the Spanish speakersregionally, as well as the current vision to extendout impact among and with Spanish speakersglobally.” Arthur and Marita Mikesell rejoicethat we were able to join CAM in 1961. We werein Costa Rica in 1962 for one year at the SpanishLanguage Institute in San Jose. In 1963 we start-ed our work in Guatemala among the CakchiquelIndians for seven years and then we did UrbanEvangelism with the Hanna and Kendal familiesuntil we moved to Mexico in 1980. We are stillactive here in Ario De Rosales, Michoacan,México in evangelism and local church exten-sion. The Lord willing the next decade will befull of joy in spreading the Word of the Gospelhere in Central México.
2. PRAY for Heriberto, age 20, who attended ourFriday night evangelistic event here in our house. After hearing the plan of salvation he made hisdecision to trust Christ as his only Savior. Pray
that he will have courage to come to the Sunday morning service and bring his family with him.
3. PRAY for this Saturday’s work day down at theMichoacan Bible Conference Center in NuevoUrecho, Michoacan. Pray that everything will beready for December 12th Christmas dinner fel-lowship with all the Michoacan Bible Churches..We expect over 200 will be there for this event.Marita and the ladies here in Ario are fixing cup-cakes for the desert.
4. PRAY for our safety as we travel Monday andTuesday to Fortin De Las Flores, Puebla, México, for the annual CAMEX Fellowship Conferencefor the CAM missionaries in México. It is a thou-sand miles round trip for us. México is a bigcountry. This is the largest Spanish speakingcountry in the World; a little over a hundred mil-lion live in this open door country. Please praythat law and order will be restored to many partsof México.
Thanks for giving to the Lord and designating itin our direction. We will be praying for each ofyou as you gather your family around you at thisThanksgiving time to praise the Lord for Hismany blessings.
Pray For Our Missionaries Mikesell’s Mexico Memos
I’m excited. I anticipate that this coming year will beone of transition. As God continues unfolding Hisplan for the EJ Community Church satellite, we seekto flexibly adapt to new ways of doing church, whilealso maintaining and building upon the foundation ofwhat makes God’s interaction at WLCC so unique.
This is very much true in music world. Facilitating the East Jordan satellite requires ourmusic teams to stretch in new ways because we haveto train more singers, instrumentalists, technicians, and worship leaders than ever before. Then we haveto be able to send off some of these gifted people, allwhile supporting the worship occurring at this loca-tion. So you might notice that we’re adjusting inways we never thought possible.
Still, we must maintaining our core values. My wor-ship leadership team has been working to clarify thewhy’s and how’s of our approach to congregationalworship. We want to ensure that, in the midst ofmajor change, we keep the main thing the mainthing. Herbert Lockyer Jr.’s book All The Music OfThe Bible has reminded me of several key conceptsthat I wanted to pass on to you. Music is older thanhuman expression. The angels used it before theearth was even created. We were created in such away that we would be able to be aware of music, having both a desire to express ourselves through it,and an ability to be impacted by it in ways evendeeper than our ability to comprehend.
Music gives empowers our expressions. Don E.Seilers said, “When we sing, words are given greaterrange and power than when we speak... whateverpeople say with passion and in heightened speech, they will end up singing in some form.” I find itinteresting that when Moses gave his final messageto the Israelites before he died and they entered thepromised land, he chose to do it through song so that
it would be memorable, teachable, and powerful. H.T. McElrath observed that music “provided a lan-guage for the deepest expressions of the soul.”
It amazes me that music extends to every aspect ofhuman experience. We are to sing with both ourintellectual understanding and with our emotive, spir-itual intuition (I Cor. 14:15). We are to sing to oneanother when we gather (Col. 3:16 - among manyother verses). Music gives voice to us intellectually, emotionally, relationally, culturally, and spiritually. This fits with the exortation in Romans 12 to laydown our selves as living sacrifices - our wholenature, offering every area that gives us identity - asour service of spiritual worship. Worship expressesand transforms identity.
Scripture has a lot to say about music. There areactually twice as many verses about music than thereare about prayer. Then again, if you agree with St.Augustine’s observation that music is a form ofprayer, you can conclude that of all the verses havingto do with prayer, two thirds incorporate music.Martin Luther said that other than theology, he heldmusic to have highest place and honor. The NewTestament quotes King David’s psalms - the Hebrewbook of praises - more frequently than it does anyother part of the Old Testament.
I think this is why God tells us not to forsake music.Psalms 100:1 instructs us to “come into His presencewith singing.” Music reminds us of our own personalmoments of significant interactions with the Lord.Lyrics teach us of God’s faithfulness and challengeus about how to address the mountains and valleyswe face. When we sing, we declare the history ofhow God has interacted with his people. Weacknowledge who God is, and proclaim His attributes to everyone around us.

This year one hundred and seventy abundantly-filled and beautifully wrapped shoe boxes weresent to Samaritan’s Purse by WLCC families as aresult of the 2010 Operation Christmas Child(OCC) project.
OCC’s focus is appropriately on the children whoreceive the shoe boxes. However, this project isalso great way for our children to learn and prac-tice giving. It is exciting to see the satisfactionand excitement in the children’s eyes as theybring their filled shoe boxes in for shipment. Many WLCC parents participate in the project as
a family activity. . .building an important faithattitude through giving.
OCC is a unique international project ofSamaritan’s Purse and has delivered more than 77million gift-filled shoe boxes to needy boys andgirls in 138 countries worldwide since 1993.
Franklin Graham notes that "Every shoe boxoffers an opportunity to share the Good News ofthe Savior with a hurting child."

Sattelite Church UpdateThe Board Corner•Kevin Klevorn
I would ask you to consider joining a group inPastor Bob's office at 10:25am each Sunday tohave concentrated time to pray about the satellitechurch project in East Jordan as the board and staffcontinue to help lay the necessary groundwork forsuch an endeavor. Let me spend this month bring-ing you up to speed..
First, our entire board retreat in October was spentpraying about and discussing the pros and cons ofan extra campus. We were of one mind that this isthe next step in the growth and outreach ofWalloon that the Lord would have us take in north-ern Michigan. God is continuing to use where weare as a regional/resource church, but to take theGreat Commission and the pattern of Acts 1:8 seri-ously, we have to do more than invest in ourselveswhere we are. God calls us to get out of the boatfrom time to time and do what we could not nor-mally do on our own. It seems now is the time totake that step, as confirmed by those separate lead-ings by the Lord to those in leadership positions.
Second, we have studied in general and even visit-ed in particular a church with several separate loca-tions to discern what works, what doesn't, as far ashaving "one church in multiple locations". Thisidea is not new, and if we can learn from others, our own learning curve will be shorter. No need toreinvent the wheel if a template is already rollingthat we can adapt to our own situation. To that endhowever, keep praying (even Sunday mornings!)that we will know what methodology will workbest in East Jordan. In general, the music willsound very similar, with perhaps even very familiarfaces. The feel or flavor of the "DNA" of Walloonwill make it seem as if you were at the main build-ing, just in a smaller (at least to start....dependingon what God does!) setting.
Third, this methodology is repeatable, just a chal-lenge to figure out how to "do it" the first time. The expense of buildings and expansion of thephysical/structures ministry of Walloon is keptlower, and the growth and development of leader-ship through our own body is higher. As you maysurmise, growth requiring auditorium seating forfour figures and more is pricey, and still therewould be many smaller communities that wouldremain darkened unless we were to go there. Evena great movement "over here" will not have thesame results eternally as going into various otherlocations. Jesus traveled quite a bit as He minis-tered. He went where the people were....that's whatwe need to do too.
Making the right "good steward" investment deci-sions as to equipment needs or upgrades, locationsto meet that we have begun to explore, waiting tosee who God moves to join in to the project, are allthings yet to firm up, and again, need much prayer. As we pray, God moves in hearts, doors open, everything, just in time, falls into place. You willhear much more in the coming days.
Make sure the annual meeting of Sunday, January23rd is circled on your calendar. If you join inprayer times though, you may quicker be on thecutting edge of seeing where the Lord will worknext. If you have special "East Jordan" knowledgeor contacts, the leadership would love to hear fromyou! We would like to have people in place soon, with a "launch" in the fall of 2011. That will behere before you know it. Even if you just want tolearn more without "commitment", come check itout. Thanks for letting me serve here, and soon inEast Jordan.
I’m thankful that the early Hebrews created theirinstruments to glorify God rather than for secularuse or personal satisfaction. It played a signifi-cant part of nearly every feast, celebration, ormajor event. It called them to gather at the tem-ple. It governed their movements. It led theminto battle. I get satisfaction from these factswhenever I ponder the troubling though that itwas Jubal, a descendant of Cain, who the Biblecredits as the father of musicians in Genesis4:20-21. This gives pause to musicians not to usemusic for their own gain, but to offer it humblyin service.
I am also thankful that King Davidwrote so often that music is congre-gational. When we worship togetherduring a service, you are not theaudience listening to the musicians’performance. Everyone in the roomis part of the music team. We’re allperforming together for the Lord. When we sing, that’s your offering.
It also means something special tome that in 39 psalms there are 71 references tosomething called a “Selah.” This was a musical-ly supported pause after singing some of thelyrics of a song so that everyone could celebrate, pray, meditate, or otherwise respond appropriate-ly to what they just sang. You could call it aninstrumental with purpose. That makes sense. When we sing, we are supposed to mean whatwe say, and we should listen to what the Lordsays back to us. It’s a conversation between eachof us and Him.
I am thankful for the stories in scripture wheremusic is associated with God’s deliverance.Deliverance from slavery, enemies, oppression,
evil sprits, prison... music played a part. Music ispowerful. John Clavin observed that words inthemselves are powerful, but that “when themelody is with it, it pierces the heart much morestrongly, and enters into it.”Perhaps music’s powerful nature explains whyits use in church was always controversial.Although scripture tells us to use psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, it didn’t specify the exactcontent. The writings of the early church dis-agreed whether lyrics could be written by peopleof that day or whether the only acceptable lyrics
were direct biblical quotations. They were still arguing about this inthe 1500’s. I’m thankful that MartinLuther, St. Francis of Assisi,Charles Westly, and Dwight L.Moody incorporated folk art music- the music of the people - into thespiritual fine art of the church bycomposers like Bach and Handel. Some people still argue today aboutstyles, instruments, content, format, lyrics, and so on, but more and
more, people all over the entire earth use thesame songs in worship.
I am fascinated by how God uses music. He usedit to announce the birth of His Son. He literallydwells in the praises of His people. What do welearn from the few glimpses scripture offers usbehind the veil of eternity into heaven? Singingand making music is a central part. It’s loud, shaking heaven’s very gates.
So make yourself an offering of praise in whichHe can dwell. Make music in your heart to theLord. Sing!

Celebrate Recovery is a Christian 12 step recoveryprogram for any and all of lifes hurts, hang-ups andhabits. Many lives are experiencing healing and helphere at Walloons Celebrate Recovery, for which weare grateful to our higher power Jesus Christ. Here isa sample from one who is in the process of recovery,Karen McCary.
As I start to climb the mountain of sand to do my 4thstep I soon realize how hard and tiring it is to get tothe top. Exhausted and heart beating fast I continue, excited to start my writing while sitting high on asand dune overlooking Lake Michigan. As I reach thetop my mind clears and I sit in silent awe, looking atthe beauty God has given us. Why can’t life be simpleand wonderful as this view? As I look for a place toput my blanket down, I step on some sharp grass thatis so desperately trying to reach and stand tall againwith softened stems. I am reminded that just because Ihave reached the top there are still rough spots to getover. With God’s help I will be able to stand tall againwith a softened and loving heart. As I glance at theother side of the sand dunes it is a dark, steep, clut-tered place, a place I don’t want to fall into anymore. With God beside me I will stay on top of this hill andenjoy the beauty He has given me. As I turn around Isee one set of footprints that will carry me- His. As Ifinish the writing of my 4th step I feel relieved that itis done and can hardly wait to start with the next step.I pray for my fears to be removed. It is close to theend of the day and there is a beautiful sunset. I willstay to enjoy the lasting beauty of a God given day.As I am coming off the sand dune, sliding fast downthe hill, I am reminded that I don’t want to fall downanymore. It feels too good to stay on top with God inmy sight.
P.S. I love you Lord Jesus. Thank you for loving me.
We all have areas of need to work on so please comeand join us in this journey. We meet on Thursdayevenings at 7pm.

Hit A Wrong Note
Last month we wrote that K-7th grade had been invitedto sing “Joy to the World” on stage December 12th andduring Christmas Eve Service. But our large group ofkids will NOT be singing on Christmas Eve. After con-sidering the logistics and traffic flow of maneuveringover 100 children, onto and off from the main stage, andthen trying to reunite kids with their parents scatteredthroughout the crowded auditorium, we decided this istoo difficult on Christmas Eve. We will make sure thatchildren are represented in the service, but please plan torelax and enjoy this special evening as a family.
Christmas Community Service Project
Ruth Fite has invited KidConnection to join her in sup-porting Bortz Healthcare of Petoskey with a ChristmasCommunity Service Project. During the first week ofDecember, the kids will be erecting a Christmas tree inthe Children’s Wing and will be decorating the tree withhandmade, kid-made ornaments. Each ornament will belabeled with a gift idea that you can buy for a resident atBortz. Please feel free to take an ornament off the tree asa holiday shopping reminder. Please do not wrap yourpurchase. Gifts will be collected from our tree onSunday, December 19. Thank you for helping our WLCCkids to complete this community service project. Some gift ideas you will find on our ornaments are:

In addition to a great, youth-friendly worship service forthe whole family, WLCC offers young people three different "youth" programs every Sunday at 10:45.Did you know...• 5-6-7 (for students in those grades) has their ownspace in Room 101 of the main church?• C-101 (for grades 8-11) meets in the Youth Center down the road?• Young Adult (for HS seniors through age 23) meets in the Discipleship House basement?• Each program is tailored to meet the needs and interests of it's specific group. It's fun & relevant)? •Well over 100 young people participate in these programs every week?• Community Small Groups are available during theweek for each of these groups, with over 75 people participating?
• More than fifty committed volunteers make it all happen?•We still need MORE people just like YOU whoare willing to serve?
A few "Urban Legends" about youth ministry...
Myth: Youth Ministry is just fun and games, and not very important.
Fact: We DO have a lot of fun. But young lives are changed (a little or a lot) EVERY week. We work hard to bring God's Word to bear on the real issues students face, in order to encourage them to become life-long follow-ers of Jesus in EVERY area of their lives.
Myth: You have to teach the Bible or lead a game to be used in Youth Ministry
Fact: EVERY believer is called to serve God by serving others. Just like EVERY area of our church, our youth programs can use willing servants with EVERY gift, skill, background or passion to change student's lives.
Myth: Only 20-somethings, or "cool" people, can connect to kids.
Fact: If you believe this, consider two examples: 1) Our youth pastor is NOT very "cool". 2) One of our most beloved leaders just turned 80! We need our students to be influenced
by believers from EVERY generation. While younger leaders can often add energy and passion, older ones often add wisdom and experience. Both are needed, so our leader-ship team is a cross-section of our church.
Myth: The young people in our church don't need me to volunteer.
Fact: Although we have a fantastic, dedicated team of workers, we still have huge holes to fill! We currently have 4 groups that are too large and need to be divided for maximum effec-tiveness. We can't do this, because we don't have adult leaders to help guide them! We have students who are excited and willing to be part of a drama team, but we don't have a coach to lead them! We have a youth center that is waiting for redecorating and painting, but don't have enough workers to do the job! We have mounds of paperwork and record-keeping waiting to be processed, but lack someone with the administrative gifts and time to complete it! We have students want-ing and waiting for a mentor, or a prayer partner, or just someone to talk with.
Myth: Whoever wrote this article REALLY cares about our young people, and wants me to get involved as a volunteer.
Fact: Ok, this one's true...
Myth: Only people who are crazy enough to actually spend time with young people can help meet their needs (that rules me out...)
Fact: It certainly helps if those who care about teens actually LIKE them, BUT... EVERY person who reads this article can be used by God to change lives. Even if you DON'T want to call Pastor Jason right now at 231- 675-8404 to inquire about how you can make a difference either up close OR behind the scenes, you can PRAY. Please spend the next 30 seconds talkingto Jesus about our Young People. Pray for their walk with Jesus, their parents, their relation-ships, their decisions, their leaders at church... you get the idea. Thank you in advance for your investment in the lives of others!
