Purpose of Agency
• The Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity enforces federal laws and establishes policies to ensure that all Americans have equal access to the housing of their choice. (http://www.usa.gov/directory/federal/fair-housing-and-equal-opportunity.shtml)
• To create equal housing opportunities for all persons living in America by administering laws that prohibit discrimination in housing on the basis of :• Race• Color• Religion• Sex• National origin• Disability• Familial Status

• The Agency work with private industry, fair-housing and community advocates on the promotion of voluntary fair housing compliance.
• Works with other agencies to promote fair housing issues.• They conduct oversight of the government-sponsored enterprises for
example : Fannie Mae Freddie Mac
• To make sure there is consistency with the Fair Housing Act The fair housing provisions of the Federal Housing Enterprises Financial Safety and
Soundness Act.

Incident
Floyd Mallory v. United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
CIVIC ACTION No. 13-0367 (CKK)• Mr. Floyd Mallory filed a single paragraph claim March 21,2013 against
Washington D.C Superior courts.• He was seeking $45,000 for pain and suffering arising from alleged horrible
housing living conditions.• Accusation of his landlord was exposing him for months oven fumes, Holes in
walls with infestation, pesticide and mold.• Which led Mr. Floyd to be hospitalize for a collapsed lung.
When and Where
• The location of the incident was in Washington D.C- Columbia District
• March 21 ,2013 and the case was filed the it was dismissed February 26 ,2014.
• The case was heard in the Superior Court.

• The Plaintiff Mr. Floyd Mallory lost his case.• The Defendant- United States Department of
Housing and Urban Development was able to prove enough evidence to dismiss the case.

• The case was dismiss under the circumstances of the following:Jurisdiction was wanted because plaintiff has not exhausted his
administrative remedies under the Federal Tort Claims Act.The Plaintiff did not filed a claim under the Housing & Urban
Development department agency.The Jurisdiction of the Federal courts is limited. The courts
needed to establish it before hand if they had it.
