URINE DRUG SCREENING Drug and alcohol testing is a method of identifying employees at risk of being impaired by drugs and alcohol. It can also be used as a deterrent as it creates a clear message that drug and alcohol abuse is unacceptable to the organisation with a ‘no drug or alcohol’ policy. Castle Hill Medical Centre is able to conduct an instant urine drug screen to determine presence of drugs in an individual’s system. Instant testing offers a range of benefits including: Indicative non-negative or negative results in six class drugs including Methamphetamines, Cocaine, Marijuana, Opiates and Benzodiazepines. Integrity and adulteration tests to assist in identifying result tampering. Our nursing staff check for creatinine and temperature levels to determine a ‘real’ specimen as there are individuals who dilute or provoke ‘fake’ urine samples. If our tests show a ‘non-negative’ result, in accordance with Australian standards, additional testing at an accredited laboratory is required. This will determine if the result is a true ‘negative’ or ‘positive’. This additional testing usually takes 24-48 hours of the specimen arriving in the laboratory after which time the finalised report is sent through to Castle Hill Medical Centre electronically. A confirmed positive result reveals the presence of a drug in the specimen at or above the ‘cut- off’ level. It gives no information about how or when the drug was taken. It also does not provide an indication of impairment. Often a positive result is the result of legitimate prescription medication or over the counter medication so this is taken into account during the analysis. Drug and alcohol misuse is estimated to cost Australia billions of dollars annually. Recent data has demonstrated a fourfold increase in alcohol and illicit drug detection when testing is conducted on individuals involved in accidents and incidents in the workplace. It is a legal obligation of all employers under their ‘Duty of care’, to take reasonable action to provide a safe working environment to all employees and visitors to their workplace. In some industries, this has been interpreted as a requirement to establish a drug screening program. Employees too have a responsibility to ensure workplace practices are safe. URINE DRUG SCREENING

Drug and alcohol testing is a method of identifying employees at risk of being impaired by drugs and alcohol.

Instant testing offers a range of benefits including:• Indicative non-negative or

negative results in six class drugs including Methamphetamines, Cocaine, Marijuana, Opiates and Benzodiazepines.

• Integrity and adulteration tests to assist in identifying result tampering.

A confirmed positive result reveals the presence of a drug in the specimen at or above the ‘cut-off’ level.
