VOL 22 ISSUE 9, 16 SEPTEMBER 2020 God loves cultural diversity One of our biggest challenges of being human is accepting difference. Despite anti-discrimination laws, there is a distinct lack of respect, a lack of tolerance for our diversity of race, creed, cultural values, political persuasions or ideology. Understanding the mindset and the passions of someone else in the world is vital because everything is connected. If we look at each other with God’s eyes, we will realise we are all precious, unique and gifted. We are brothers and sisters on a journey. As Nelson Mandela said: “We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.” Multicultural environments present us with religious and cultural gifts. They also present us with challenges. We cannot afford to ignore the diversity in our midst. Nor the fact that the things we share are more valuable than those which divide us. We can expect to see God’s face manifest in each unique person that makes up our wonderfully diverse school community. God loves cultural diversityOne of our biggest challenges of being human is accepting difference.

And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”

Multicultural environments present us with religious and cultural gifts. They also present us with challenges. We cannot afford to ignore the diversity in our midst. Nor the fact that the things we share are more valuable than those which divide us.

We can expect to see God’s face manifest in each unique person that makes up our wonderfully diverse school community.

From the Acting PrincipalCONCERT AND ST PAUL SPECTACULAR This year’s concert and Wakairri performances were disrupted due to Covid-19 and the need for social distancing. As they say though, ‘the show must go on’, and our Performing Arts Teacher, Mrs Marlise Janetzki, ensured that our students still had the opportunity to perform to a live audience. Marlise, in her first year in the Performing Arts role, creatively developed a program spanning two weeks to provide students with some amazing experiences and memories.

We are incredibly proud of Marlise and our Year 1-4 teachers for the development and execution of a very different, high standard, concert program. Our Year 5 and 6 teachers worked very closely with Marlise during this same period to develop our first ever St Paul Spectacular in place of the cancelled Wakakirri. All of these teachers went above and beyond the call of duty, putting in an immense amount of work to ensure our students did not miss out on the performance experience. Their work cannot be understated.

In the coming weeks we will have more information on how you can access the Concert and St Paul Spectacular Movie!

SCHOOL TOURS Next term we will resume some daytime School Tours. There are still some places available at most year levels in 2021. If you know anyone who would like to learn more about St Paul, more information can be found at http://www.stpaulba.sa.edu.au/enrolment/school-tours/

CONNECTED SCHOOLS ENRICHMENT PROGRAMAn important part of our Connected Schools partnership is our Enrichment Program for students who demonstrate exceptional skills in particular learning areas. Earlier this week a group of Year 6 students attended a workshop at Lumination, in Kent Town, to work with a team of engineers, STEM educators, designers and software developers to develop solutions to some environmental sustainability problems.

From the Wellbeing LeaderOPTIONAL ATTENDANCE DAY- FRIDAY 25 SEPTEMBERThe last day of term, Friday 25 September, will be an optional attendance day for all students from Reception to Year 6. In order to assist us in planning, please indicate whether your child/ren will be attending school by Monday 21 September via the Eform which was sent via email last week. This is part of our commitment to use less paper forms at St Paul.

AUSTRALIAN LUTHERAN WORLD SERVICE VISITThe Year 5 classes have been exploring issues around global poverty. Students will be participating in an incursion with Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) on Wednesday September 16. Celia Fielke from ALWS will lead the students in a 90 minute session about the topic ‘Why are there poor people in the world?’. The session covers what it is really like to be poor. What does that really mean? How does it affect people physically, emotionally and mentally. Real life stories of what it is like for children. How does an organisation like ALWS actually make a difference. How can just one person make a difference. Our community is blessed to have partnerships with organisations like ALWS who offer authentic links to real world contexts.

FRIDAY COMMUNITY TIMEOur last Community Afternoon is scheduled for this Friday 18 September (Week 9). Please note that students can wear their sports uniform on Friday 18 September. Our student leaders are excited to lead our last Community Afternoon for Term 3.

Students will get an opportunity to parade their costumes during the Book Week assembly. For students who would like to dress up and participate in the day, they will need to make sure that they have the book with them on which their dress up is based. Students can also come dressed in the Book Week theme “Curious Creatures, Wild Minds”.Please note: This is not a casual day, if students do not wish to dress up they will need to wear normal school uniform.
