As far as they’re concerned, the church is a failed institution. But we disagree. The church is far from a lost cause! In reality, the church is unstop- pable because the followers of Christ have been given an unstoppable power— the very Spirit of God. Even more, they’ve been given an unstoppable mission and message. Come and hear all about how God has given us the unstoppable Gospel during this six-week sermon series. The Reason for God Sundays from 9-10am in Room 203 starting October 23 Uncomfortable when people ask tough questions about your faith? Struggle with questions about God, His existence or His nature? Join us for a six-week series called “The Reason for God” as we discuss six of the most common objections and questions regarding the Christian faith. This group is led by Pastor James and is open to all adults. Please let Pastor James know if you want to attend so that he can get materials for you. Huddles are Happening Now! Huddles are merely small gatherings in homes that provide time for an informal discussion with Pennway’s pastors and leaders about all that is happening at Pennway. Huddles are currently sched- uled between October 1st and 15th - to see dates, locations and sign up to attend a huddle go to www.planetreg.com/pennwayhuddle or stop at the Welcome Desk in the Narthex. Pastors ParagraphWhen we read through the lists of kings in the Old Testament, we hear commentary about their lives as to how they either did what was good in God’s eyes or they did not. The ones that did good in God’s eyes were blessed in their rule by God. For many of those that did “good” in God’s eyes, there was an added line that said, “but the high places were not removed.” For those few that did do “good” and that did remove the high places, God really blessed their rule. We have seen some very good things happening here at Pennway. We are blessed by God. Yet God has shown me that I have allowed a “high place” to come into my life. You see, these high places were places where the people would go to worship instead of going to the temple in Jerusalem. They were settling for less than what God really wanted. For me, I have allowed some pride to come into my life and that has been a high place that God is helping me to remove. Pride is so subtle. In some situations I have almost had the feeling that I have God’s answer and I just need to tell others about it. I have not believed in the God in them enough to trust that God would help them see what needs to be done, even without me telling them. This pride has caused me at times to not listen as well as I needed to listen when others were talking. I have to give my answer and fix the problem. God has allowed me, through some painful revelations, to see that I need to remove this high place. I am trying to listen more and talk less. I am trying to really believe that God is at work in all of us. I know that it will take some time for me to change. But with God’s help and the help of many around me, this high place will be re-moved from my life. I do want to walk humbly with God. As I share this with you, I desire your prayers. I don’t want us to just be “good enough” in God’s mission here. I want us to be the best we can be. Maybe there are others in our church that have allowed some “high places” in their lives that need to be removed. These might not be big things and we might see God at work in our lives, but they might be things that are keeping us from being the best we can be for God. My prayer is that it will be said of us like it was about Josiah, “Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like Him who turned to the Lord as he did – with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength…” (2 Kings 23:25). We hope to have specialty bake goods, crafts, art, woodwork, textiles, etc. represented. The Grand Opening will be held in October of 2017 which allows a year of preparation. The charge will be $20.00 for an 8-foot ta-ble space or $10.00 for 4-feet if that is all you need. The space will already be prepared and set up to look like a shop. Proceeds from the space funds will be used for future projects by the Wor-ship Design Ministry. If you are interested, please complete and return an “I’m Interested!” form at the welcome desk.
