OTHER ACTIVITIES
Eco – School Activities
Recently, we had successfully registered our school to become an Eco-
School under Eco-School Programme patronised by World Wildlife
Foundation (WWF). This programme is intended at mobilising the whole
school in a quest to empower students to adopt an active part in
environmental decision making and action in our school and community.
The ultimate goal is to infuse through deliberate choices and
sustainable lifestyles into the school’s day-to-day functioning so that this
environmental ethic gradually becomes an integral part of the
school.Schools that have effectively achieved this goal are awarded a
Green Flag- a prestigious eco-label testifying the schools’ commitment
in fostering sustainable lifestyle.
We have set up a committee comprising both students and teachers,
whose key accountabilities would be that of establishing environmental
concerns of the school community and ensuring extensive ownership of
the programme. Our initiatives in this programme are well buttressed
by Kerry Ingredients Malaysia, which is a private organization that is
also the official main patron for Eco School Programme Malaysia.
Till date, we have initiated to incorporate the rudiments of sustainable
environmental basics in our daily lessons. Some classes have started
with class gardens with regard to introduce gardening and farming to
the kids. The kids too are giving overwhelming support in these eco
related programmes.

Social Illness among Teenagers: Who is Responsible?
What is social illness? It happens when a condition is disagreeable to the
society. Newspapers are filled with lots of social problems among the
teenagers, mainly violence, crimes, illegal racing, smoking and loafing.
Parents play a huge significant role in adolescent life because this is the
time when their hormonal changes kicks in. They face emotional highs and
lows or pressure, and do whatever they want without thinking twice. This is
when parents should help to guide and motivate them, instead of money
making becoming their first priority. Teenagers feel like they do not get their
parents’ attention and love anymore and they turn to friends or outsiders. To
relieve stress, the youths follow their friends’ advices and involve in consuming
alcohol, drug trafficking and bullying. Bullying can lead to many negative
consequences. Kids, who are being bullied might suffer from depression,
anxiety attack, fail in their examinations, drop out of school and possibly be
suicidal. They break the laws and can be fined or imprisoned . Their future
could be ruined.
Mass media, like TV, movies, internet, advertisements and tabloids, is
one of the powerful sources in this modern technology generation. It can cause
negative impact even though it has good influence and keep people in touch of
what is happening around them. The violence promoted through video games
and movies, has negative messages. They can spend half the day sitting in
front of the computers and television learning how to fight with weapons.
Social medias such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram let us make friends
with people, good and bad, all around the world. Teenagers, especially girls,
enjoy meeting new people and they think that the social medias are a great
platform to mingle with strangers and be friends with them. These teens, who
are unaware of the kind of people, whom they are talking to and sending
selfies, finally fall into the strangers’ trap. They might abuse these teenagers for
money or even solicit harmful or damaging personal photographic material from
them.
We, as teenagers, should try and take care of ourselves and when it
comes to choosing a friend, please be wise! Parents should not put money and
work first, instead make kids as their priority and try to communicate with them.
In addition, parents should choose appropriate movies and games for the teens
to watch and play. Watching your children with their innocent and pure smiles is
the real happiness. Time is precious, so spend it with your loved ones.
