UNIVERSITY WOMEN’S CHOIR University Women’s Choir (formerly Philomela Women’s Choir) was formed in 1994. Taught as a credit course, the choir numbers approximately 30 and membership is open to all UVic students by placement audition. Continuing the original tradition of a ‘town and gown’ choir, there is also a compliment of members from the greater Victoria area, again by audition. The choir performs a wide variety of repertoire at their end of semester concerts and participates in the annual all-UVic Choirs Seasonal Christmas concert at Christ Church Cathedral. University Women’s Choir

UviC ChorUs

This 150-voice chorus is featured in two concerts each year. Since the Chorus was formed in 1969, the group has performed many of the masterworks for chorus, orches-tra, and soloists, including Bach’s Mass in B Minor, Verdi’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Haydn’s Creation, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, the War Requiem of Benjamin Britten, and Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand. The Chorus is open to the entire UVic community, including students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the greater Victoria area. No audition is required.

The fall performance includes participation in the all-UVic Choirs Seasonal Christmas Concert at Christ Church Cathe-dral. The spring term performance will feature the Duruflé Requiem with the University of Victoria Orchestra.

The UVic Chorus is conducted by Dr. Adam Con.

voCal Jazz ensemble

The UVic Vocal Jazz Ensemble has established a reputa-tion for artistic excellence, stylistic flexibility, original and inspiring arrangements and fun-filled audience engaging performances. The Autumn and Spring Showcases feature mixed combos, the signature 16 voice UVJAZ, the UVic Jazz Chorale and the women’s combo, Elevation. The Ensemble has opened for the internationally acclaimed vocal group Groove for Thought, and has received high praise and sup-port from several eminent directors, including Vijay Singh, Janet Warren and Peter Taylor.

Wendell Clanton is the director.

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble is open to students from all facul-ties and departments, by audition.

Auditions: First Monday of class/second week of September.

UviC Chamber singers

This mixed ensemble performs both standard and lesser-known choral repertoire from a wide spectrum of compos-ers and styles. Performing with the highest level of musi-cianship, choir members have extensive choral experience, strong sightreading skills and a thirst for exploring and sharing their musical expertise. This ensemble is open to non-music and music majors, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as community members, all by audition.

This ensemble is conducted by Dr. Garry Froese.

This choir has a reputation for highly acclaimed perfor-mances in Victoria and on extensive concert tours, as well as radio broadcasts.
