Important yearsThe Technical School of Weaving was founded in 1866.
The University of Borås was founded in 1977.
First professorial inauguration took place in 2000.
Application to become the first university of profession in Sweden was submitted to the government in 2005.
In 2007 the University was awarded the right to offer courses at an advanced level.
In June 2010 the University received rights to examine postgraduate students (PhD).
First doctoral degree conferment ceremony took place in 2014.
As of 1 July 2014 the University of Borås has a new organisation.
Important yearsThe Nursing School of West Sweden was formed in 1940.
The Preschool Seminar was founded in 1966.
The Swedish School of Library and Information Science was established in Borås in 1972.
Business and IT courses began in 1980.
The Textile Institute becomes the Swedish School of Textiles in 1982.
The School of Engineering was founded in 1989.
The School of Health and Caring Sciences becomes part of the University in 1999.
Inauguration of the University’s new library in 2004.
Swedish School of Textiles moves to Textile Fashion Center in 2013.

The Peddler has been the symbol of the University since its inception in 1977.
He is the tradesman of the Sjuhärad Region.
He was active in the early middle ages.
He is a link to the history of the region.
