UNDERSTANDING MOTIVATIONAL FACTORS IN GREEN IT ADOPTION
IN A PHILIPPINE PRIVATE UNIVERSITY
Jasmin H. Almarinez
Faculty, College of Computer Studies
Abstract
Green IT has become an imperative aspect in information technology industry. The rising level of
energy consumption, global warming and e-waste have led to pay much attention in green IT by
government, educational institutions and business worldwide. The University of Perpetual Help
System Laguna as an institution of higher learning is not an exception. This paper aims to
investigate the key success factors affecting the adoption of green IT inside an educational
provider. This study which applied a descriptive exploratory research method was patterned on the
TOE (Technology-Organization-Environment) model to understand the key areas for the success
factors of green IT. Data were collected from the different offices of the university. Findings
revealed that the top success factors affecting the adoption of green IT inside the university are
relative advantage, coercive pressure, normative pressure and greening organizational culture.
Moreover, among the three proposed contexts, the one deemed most important is the technological
context. The present study runs contributory to the existing theory by providing taxonomy of the
factors in adoption of green IT. The study also implicates that higher education institutions (HEIs)
should implement responsive measures in the context of Green IT especially at present time
wherein Industry 4.0 characterizes the highly digital society which should always strive to promote
sustainable, healthy and engaging communities.

INTERNSHIP PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS FROM VARIOUS ENGINEERING
PROGRAMS: BASIS FOR IMPROVED ACADEME-INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIP
Nancy P. Mercado
Faculty, College of Engineering, Aviation and Architecture
Abstract
Various internship programs assist educational leaders in providing student skill development that
is useful and responsive, ensuring that graduates have aligned skills and competencies with
industry needs, through relevant and meaningful learning experiences. This descriptive study
aimed to determine the internship performance of one hundred sixty-five (165) fourth year students
of a private university in Laguna, from its various engineering programs. The company
representatives under whom the trainees were deployed served as the respondents of the study that
also determined the significant difference among the internship performance of students from
various engineering programs and proposed an action plan necessary to improve academe-industry
partnership. Among the ten (10) skills evaluated, adaptation capacity topped the list indicating that
the students were able to adapt to the new work environment within the limits of their personal
values. No significant difference was noted among the ten skills used for the evaluation of OJT
performance. Findings revealed, though, that students under computer engineering practicum
outperformed those from other engineering programs. Action plan was proposed to improve the
dependability, reliability and resourcefulness, initiative, time management and development of
skills which ranked lowest among the skills evaluated. Results imply that institutions of higher
learning should constantly monitor, review and implement relevant and responsive changes in its
practicum program in order to identify key areas of academe-industry partnership that plays critical
role in shaping highly sustainable and continuously developing societies where active
collaboration and empowerment become significant determinants to success and growth.

Abstract
Employee wellness programs have become increasingly popular and are being adopted by many
institutions because of the duality of benefits it brings to employer and employees. However, its
effectiveness and relationship to the context of job performance and illness prevention have not
been investigated specifically in the case of an estates company. Addressing this gap, this
descriptive – correlational study surveyed rank and file employees of an estates company in
Laguna to find out the level of implementation and effectiveness of the company’s wellness
practices to prevent illnesses as rated by the employees as well as the perceived effect of the
company’s wellness practices as rated by the employees in terms of financial, intellectual,
vocational, social, emotional, spiritual and environmental wellness. It also determined the
employees’ level of job performance. Likewise, the investigation looked into the relationship
among the aforesaid variables. Findings revealed that the level of implementation and
effectiveness of the company’s wellness practices to illness prevention are very high in terms of
financial, intellectual, vocational, social, emotional, spiritual and environmental wellness aspects.
Respondents’ level of job performance was also noted to be very high. Test of relationship, though,
revealed that the level of effectiveness of the company’s wellness program is not dependent on its
level of implementation but on other factors. However, results showed that the higher the level of
effectiveness of the wellness program in terms of emotional and social aspects, the higher is the
level of job performance of the employees. The present study implicates that wellness program
should be a part of human resource development program not only by business sectors but by other
social institutions in order to promote sustainable communities that value health, education and
overall well-being of its people.

CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED, ENGAGEMENT AND STRATEGIES IN BUILDING
COMMUNITY RELATIONS AMONG EDUCATIONAL LEADERS
IN PHILIPPINE PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Alma T. Jallorina
Faculty, College of Arts and Sciences [email protected]
Abstract
Building community relations is considered as one of the most important undertakings of an
educational leader who should see a constant engagement continuum between the school and the
society. It can be reasonably argued that it entails challenges, thus, relevant engagement and
strategies should be demonstrated. This descriptive-correlational study randomly selected
educational leaders in public schools in Biñan City, Laguna, Philippines for the academic year
2018 – 2019. The study aimed at finding out the challenges encountered, level of engagement and
frequency of utilization of strategies in building community relations of selected principals.
Further, it looked into the relationship of the abovementioned variables. The study revealed that
irregular attendance of parents at meetings and low turnout of parental participation in educational
programs are the top challenges encountered by educational leaders. Notably though, the
respondents had a very high level of engagement in building community relations with initiating
home visitation as the strategy that is always utilized. Meanwhile, test of relationship revealed that
educational leaders’ level of engagement is not dependent on the challenges they encountered in
building community relations and that the more challenges they encounter, the more frequent
strategies in building community relations are utilized. Finally, the higher the educational leaders’
level of engagement, the more frequent strategies like home visitation and inviting community key
members in meetings are utilized. Findings implicate that educational leaders from the local and
global setting should continuously demonstrate active and highly visible role in building
community relations, by utilizing relevant, timely and responsive strategies that are befitting to the
needs and challenges of their society, particularly addressing the continually evolving landscapes
of educational paradigm in their specific context.

COGNITIVE ARCHETYPES, ACCULTURATION AND SOCIAL COPING TRENDS
AMONG SMALL SCALE MUSLIM MERCHANTS IN A PUBLIC MARKET
IN THE PHILIPPINES
Sherill S. Villaluz
Faculty, College of Arts and Sciences and College of Education
Leomar S. Galicia
College of Arts and Sciences and College of Education
Abstract
Since the number of Muslim settlers in Binan City, Laguna, Philippines is expected to increase in
years to come, it is important to understand their dominant personality traits and tendencies rooted
in their cognitive archetypes which in turn could be credited for their vulnerability to acquire new
behavior from their new environment. This could enable them to utilize the best coping strategy
suited for them. Although a considerable review of literature and studies exist about archetypes,
acculturation and social coping trends of individuals, scant attention has been given to Muslim
migrants especially in the context of trade and business in local public market. Thus, the researcher
conducted this descriptive-correlational study to determine how the cognitive archetypes of 110
randomly selected Muslim merchants are related to their level of acculturation and to their central
social coping trend, and how their level of acculturation is related to their central social coping
trend. Findings revealed that the respondents manifested the Great Mother archetype, have low
level of acculturation and utilized the moving-away-from-people social coping trend. Moreover,
rest of relationship revealed that the lower the respondents’ level of acculturation, the more they
tend to move away from people displaying the detached type of personality. Findings suggest that
the locals of Biñan City as a lone district in Laguna, Philippines should be more accepting of
diversity and inclusivity to Muslim brothers. Local government units also need to implement
stress-coping-acculturation-adaptation framework that will meet the needs of these migrants for
sustainable community that fosters respect and unity regardless of race, religion, and culture.
