FOCUS AREAS

Childhood SuccessIn Southwestern Indiana, it’s estimated that nearly 60% of students entering kindergarten have no formal early learning opportunities. Many of these children start school behind their peers and are unable to catch up. United Way funds early education programs that prepare children for school and help them achieve grade-level reading skills.

Youth Success United Way’s goal is to ensure that youth gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be prepared for the workforce, which includes on-time graduation. Funding is provided for programs that connect at-risk youth with positive role models, foster family engagement, and reduce risky behaviors, such as drug use.

Financial StabilityIncreasing income, building savings, and maintaining personal assets are the basics to building a better future. Through educational programs that focus on financial literacy, budgeting, employment skills and access to financial assistance, United Way helps working families improve their socio-economic status.

HealthUnited Way is committed to improving access to no- or low-cost dental, medical and mental health care programs. We support a healthy lifestyle that begins at birth, focusing on the overall wellness of every person we serve, as well as helping the elderly and individuals with disabilities live independent lives.

Vital ServicesUnited Way funds essential programs that identify and provide support to vulnerable individuals who are at risk of abuse or are in need of special support. This may also include persons or families who are affected by disasters.

STEPS TO A GREAT CAMPAIGN

1. PREPAREPlan your campaign in advance and recruit a strong team to lead your company’s efforts.

• Set a campaign goal that your team and employees can rally around.• Familiarize yourself with the Digital Campaign Toolkit, its contents and this year’s messaging.

2. INSPIREHelp employees understand how their support can help others build a brighter future.

• Share campaign videos and message to connect employees with our impact.• Schedule a virtual presentation with United Way or a partner program representative.• Recruit company leadership to share why they believe United Way is important.• Create fun special events or challenges to engage employees.

3. ASKEncourage and ask everyone to make a donation - regardless of amount. Every dollar helps!

Q. CAN PEOPLE DONATE ONLINE?A. Yes! Visit www.unitedwayswi.org and click Give Now or text the phrase LiveUnited20 to 41-444. Both methods will take you to a secure donation page where you can pay by credit card, debit card, PayPal or Apple Pay. Donors can set up a payment schedule.

Q. DO YOU HAVE GIVING SOCIETIES?A. We do! Our Leadership Giving Societies are crucial to the important, lasting work we do in the community. Q. IS MY DONATION TAX-DEDUCTIBLE?

Q. IS THERE AN INCENTIVE AGAIN THIS YEAR?

A. Possibly. The 2020 CARES Act included a provision that allows taxpayers who previously did not itemize their deductions, to deduct up to $300 in charitable contributions made by December 31, 2020. NOTE: This does not apply to pledges made in 2020 that are payable in 2021, such as payroll deductions.

A. Yes! Thanks to the generosity of Heritage Federal Credit Union, donors who meet the eligibility requirements will have the opportunity to participate in the $10,000 Donor Incentive Cash Giveaway. Due to the economic impact of COVID-19, United Way has expanded eligibility to include those individuals who choose to maintain their 2019 giving level, provided it was at least $50. For eligibility information, rules and guidelines, visit unitedwayswi.org/give. NOTE: Award will be net of applicable state and federal taxes.

1. REPORT RESULTS• Submit completed final campaign report envelopes to your United Way representative as soon as your campaign is over.

• Proof pledge forms to make sure they are filled out correctly.

• If you don’t use United Way’s forms, provide your United Way representative with donor details (i.e. names, emails, addresses and donation amounts for tax purposes and recognition).

• Review the report envelope’s instructions and complete your company’s information.

• Consider surveying your employees to determine what was effective, useful and fun.

2. PLAN FOR NEXT YEAR• Identify next year’s ECC and provide survey results, notes and resources.

• Implement a program to give new employees the opportunity to learn how United Way supportsour community and to contribute when they join the company.

• Stay in touch! Be sure to visit United Way’s website and social media pages to see firsthandhow our programs are creating positive change for thousands of people in Vanderburgh,Warrick and Spencer counties.
